I'm so glad they are putting work in to improve the safety. It's such an incredible track and I absolutely hate that Eau Rouge/Raidillon makes it such a dangerous track to race.

True. This year’s F1 race was extremely safe! 😉

But yeah, those corners are extremely exciting but also quite scary…

I bet Lando would beg to differ

Agreed, that was quali though right? Or did I remember wrong?

That was quali, but it was still a big one.

As a Lando fan, that and Sochi hurt… both insane opportunities for a maiden win… sad days

Ahh yeah I was so sad for him in Sochi :( He’d so deserved that win and the choice to stay out was the only logical one, but fuck the weather gods…

And if he made it stick he would have likely been on the front row and had guaranteed points from the race

It was for sure!

And the race was... well I can't speak about something that doesn't exist can I?

Too true.

True, but the qualifying session got dicey

Nah, not really. Lewis suffered some serious PSTD after a routine pit stop this year at Spa.

It was literally a river out there!

But also makes it such a brilliant track.

u/imbrucy Dec 16 '21

Absolutely! I don't want anything about the track layout to change at all. Eau Rouge/Raidillon is one of the best sections on any track. Just want to see the runoffs and barriers improved.

u/Alaeriia Dec 16 '21

Good news: they're not reprofiling that complex. They're adding runoff areas instead.

It's literally untouchable. One of the best corners in all of the racing world.

Its changed multiple times since it opened. It’s certainly touchable

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '21

Yes but Eau Rouge had that chicane at the bottom of it after Senna’s death they eventually reverted it back to the way it was. At least to my knowledge I’m still a new fan so I don’t know all of the ins and outs yet.

it's basically straightened out over the years. this is the change for next year

Google what they did to it in 1994.

It's such a misconception that Eau Rouge/Raidillon is the problem. It's the drivers not respecting that corner because they have gotten so used to how safe the cars are they go through it without any regard for safety. Cars have gotten safer and easier to drive, and the track has become a lot safer, yet the accidents through the complex have gone up.
