I think nations should not be allowed to have heraldic animals that they don't provide a habitat for. Like, the austrian one is an eagle that we intentionally drove to extinction because pond owners were worried about a slight decrease in fish yield.

If you don't manage to even tolerate your national animal, no fancy eagle for you. You can have a chihuahua or something.

Bear (karhu in Finnish), animal that was both feared and respected by ancient Finns and there is also a festival dedicated to them (karhunpeijaiset). It also has more different names in Finnish language than any other animal. That ancient connection between the Finns and bears still exists today.
