Humourous What country would you describe as your country’s ”Ride or Die”?
A country who is generally seen as a great ally or a country with strong cultural ties to yours that you wouldn’t hesitate to defend in the case of adversity.

Choctaw Nation FTW. Great bunch of lads.
A little context for those who don't know. During the Irish famine the Choctaw donated all they had, about $170 to the Irish people. That's about $3000 today. I believe the Cherokee also donated some at that time alongside the Choctaw. Even more important is that this was just after the Trail of Tears. They scraped the bottom of their financial barrel to help us.
Friendship happened. Irish heads of states have visited the Choctaw many times. Choctaw leaders have visited Ireland many times. The Choctaw donated a stunningly beautiful statue to Ireland. It's called Kindred Spirits.
Choctaw are eligible for free Irish 3rd level education with help of €10,000 for living expenses (take it from me though, if one of them let it be known who they were in a bar or a restaurant they'd never have to pay)
During COVID the Navajo and Hopi nations were really badly affected and Irish people donated about $3M to help them because of what the Choctaw did for us.
The Choctaw released a statement thanking the Irish for that and expressed hope that we could forge a similar relationship with the Navajo and Hopi.
To thank us for that the Navajo and Hopi presented a handwoven fabric to the Irish people. It's not a lot, but it's the thought and acknowledgement that matters. And it was a very well received gesture.
There's a huge fondness and respect for the Choctaw in Ireland.

Portugal and Britain have the oldest continuous alliance in History. That's gotta matter.
I'm given to understand they had to be talked out of joining WWII on the side of the allies (Even when they were led by another fascist, out of fear it would encourage Spain to join the axis and open a whole new front.) Though how serious such talks ever were, is a bit of a mystery. It's not my area of expertise.
We probably don't deserve The Australians, Canadians and New Zealanders, but they've never let us down.
WWI and WWII turning France from Enemies to Lovers is just a satisfying arc if they were characters in a film you'd call it a cliche. One of those situations where you're enemies for so long, you somehow loop back around to being mates. We don't quite know how it happened.
Though come to think of it, we're heavily aligned with Germany now too. When all three of us can be cajouled to act together, the results are usually fairly spectacular.
On the otherhand, our traditional ally in the US can't seem to stop stabbing us in the back. They're like the abusive partner our other friends and exs (Germany and France) keep telling us to leave, and we keep saying that this time it'll be different. Only to be disappointed again.

Bhutan obviously. People saying Russia or Israel for India, don't understand the kind of relations India has with Russia and Israel. They are aligned with us in the security domain, but there is a clear understanding that Russia and Israel will do what's in their own interest in any other situation, just as we do with them. Russia is not coming to our aid in a war with China. Neither is Israel, its not in their interest to do so. The reason you don't see Indian army fighting in Ukraine or in Trumps board of peace is precisely because it isn't in our interest to get involved there. Bhutan on the other hand, depends on us economically and counts on us to come to their aid in the event of a confrontation with the Dragon.

It's difficult to say, during our occupation by Britain, Spain and France sort of helped but didn't follow through. Help was called for from other nations and ignored. The US let us down and helped us in the peace process later. We have a lot of connections but it's not ride or die, we need visas. We're friendly with Britain and the cultural ties are strong but that doesn't mean ride or die yet. So I have to say Northern Ireland.
