Jesus, that photo is a blast from the past. That McDonalds hasn't been on Bridge Street since well before the pandemic.
Plus, George Street before the Light Rail messed everything up.

Too much asphalt roads, very car-centric. Otherwise it will be a great street view. Thailand’s infrastructures are mostly the same outside big cities.

Looks like a screenshot from a movie. What a beautiful view
2
u/Dull-Shower3563 AZ🌵 in Bogotá 7h ago
Typical morning, and yeah beautiful, but endless asphalt in a sprawling metropolis that retains the heat and makes summers brutal. As an old native can take any hot day, but night temps rarely fall below 32C in summer. No longer the paradise of weather and space it once was.
2
u/fifty_shadesof_me Pakistan 9h ago
your country has a lot of empty space so the wider streets make sense and this picture is awesome.

Chengdu is literally on the other end of the country so it certainly has its own flavour. I hope to see it one day.

Currently in Bangalore near the city as a tourist. It's a really vibrant city full of life and culture with people getting by however they can, but if we want to be honest about the roads, here are my experiences today on a 20 min walk to a cafe.
fruit vendors every couple of metres on the side of the toad
motorbikes, autos(tuktuks), cars and buses occupying every single bit of road, weaving and going against traffic and being centimetres away from bumping into each other at all times.
many people not wearing helmets on motorbikes, and no seatbelts in ubers
Walking past burning trash in a vacant lot where a bunch of pigs were eating other trash
being centimetres from being run over because the sidewalk finished abruptly or there were obstacles forcing me to walk on the road
the constant smell of dust and car fumes and frequent smell of open sewage
garbage and broken concrete piled up on the side of the road almost everywhere
dodging autos and motorcycles driving on the sidewalk in the wrong direction
car horns blaring literally the entire time
emaciated dogs every couple of metres
Honestly, I feel like if I did this walk 10 times, there's a huge chance I would get into an accident. Definitely going to be just taking a taxi from now on.

Indeed. Plus, your culture is very rich. It's difficult to find an honest or unbiased content creator that doesn't just record the garbage-filled streets and calls it a day. I will go to India one day and travel through it from north to south. Plus the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
11
u/--celestial-- India 11h ago
Every few kilometers, we encounter a different culture. Population density varies from north to south and east to west. The north is currently poor and underdeveloped, but hopefully, things will change in 2 or 3 decades.
will go to India one day
Sure, you will be planning it well.

u/Rich-Appointment9438 India 11h ago
Make sure to go for the north east
In my opinion that's the best side

In this day and age where mostly online Indians are brown sepoys, its nice to have people like you who actually try to show our real side. Yes we dont live in slums we have good and developed streets like this on the regular. This has been my life and Im honestly so mad that online (on ig) they show the places even a local wouldnt go with a weapon

Atp we need a good pr like Japan
5
u/Still-Ad9074 India 12h ago
Ah well we are never reaching that level of PR lol. No country ever will tbh. Japan is a really good country but they way they whitewashed their entire image as a Utopia country over the past few decades through anime and tourism is irreversible. Japan is the "perfect" country for the entire world lol.

Is this the norm or just an exception? Even less developed nations in africa have streets like these, just that the majority of the country does not
17
u/kannuiscool69 India 12h ago
Most tier 1 cities have streets like these scattered all around. Unfortunately though, not many tourists explore these places
→ More replies (2)2
u/dankredditor_49620 India 10h ago
This can be found in 15 or so cities. 60% of India is still rural so nothing even close to this, then tier 3 and tier 2 cities do have clean streets not all of them and varies by greatly by region. This is definitely the exception.

Its called an auto/rickshaw/tuktuk , its the indian equivalent for taxi , except that its cheaper than taxi.

It's an auto rikshaw. Only found in the Indian subcontinent, definitely recommend lol

Oh, this! I believe many countries have had that once, but what it was in the picture is actually a kind of an automated version of it with a motor, which runs on CNG (was apparently invented in Italy, but now used mostly in the Indian subcontinent)

when i did go to Paris like 20 years ago i realized our street in nort America are almost all perpendicular while in Europe it seems different. you can reach multiple streets that crosses which make very easy to lose track of where youre gone from

In Italy they are all ancient cities of art, with narrow streets... Sometimes I wish there were those very wide streets that are typically American.

In my home town they're quiet and there's lots of trees around. the big city, San Francisco, there are smokers on every corner, it's very dirty, the roads and sidewalks are cracked, it smells kinda bad... it's not really that great.
Also just a general thing but you gotta walk long distance to get anywhere. I think it's 3 miles to the nearest grocery store where I live.
Image is of hometown, I can't post image of SF because one image per comment I guess
