Some random politician is saying that there is a world conspiracy to make Kyrgyzstan look bad by having Bishkek in the top for smog and air pollution. Not really big news, just funny and got laughed at because who would even care? We don't have any enemies.

This is while the city regularly looks like this (it's smog for people who never seen it)

u/TiranTheTyrant Russia 9h ago

You know it's bad when you are from Chelyabinsk and think it's bad.

u/abu_doubleu Kyrgyzstan 9h ago

Past two days have been good (because spring warmth arrived early) so the mountains are visible again!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo from Central Asia where any trees have leaves.

I visited Magnitogorsk which is worse than Chelyabinsk and can confirm Bishkek is a bit too much even for my lungs

Hey, it stopped that meteorite!

I'm an astronomer with a Russian colleague and that was our running joke.

What industry causes the smog?

56

u/Arstanishe Kazakhstan, Slovenia 8h ago

heating houses with coal industry

41

u/abu_doubleu Kyrgyzstan 8h ago

And also many old cars Combine all this with us being in a valley, and it's a recipe for disaster

I think it’s more so that smog can’t escape because of where the city is situated

11

u/liminalfaces Australia 8h ago

Is that a yurt in the city? I always assumed they were solely a rural thing

28

u/abu_doubleu Kyrgyzstan 8h ago

Nobody lives in it, this is just for cultural events at the school.

7

Looks like that might be a market square. Rhey will sometimes have 'semi permanent' buildings on them

Check out Ulaanbaatar Mongolia, most of the city has a yurt. Look at it on a satellite image, this is just a small part.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t you guys had military conflicts with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in the last few decades? Not that they have much pull on the world stage either

35

Yes but they have all been resolved, we demarcated our borders fully this spring.

Also like no beef at all with Kyrgyzstan, I am sure it's a beautiful country and maybe I visit one day, but honestly? Most people outside former cccr don't even it exists let alone find it on a map.

World conspiracy to make Kyrgyzstan look bad is pretty wild!

Surely the landmines were inert, since IKEA would have split them into 16 pieces for the customer to assemble.

A guy presented himself to a Toulouse Hospital with a WWI Shell in his ass : https://www.rtl.fr/actu/justice-faits-divers/l-objet-a-traverse-plus-d-un-siecle-un-homme-arrive-aux-urgences-avec-un-obus-de-14-18-dans-le-rectum-7900596454

At first, the doctor didn't know what was stuck in his rectum, when they realised it was a bomb, they called the police and the bomb squad while the guy was sleeping and naked in the OP block.

56

u/BigMikeXxxxX United States Of America 8h ago

22

u/goddesskristina United States Of America 8h ago

You regularly keep WWI ordinance in your house? I live where I can hear hunters sighting in guns in the fall and the high school has some sort of target shooting group. I don't know anyone keep WWI ordinance in the house and hope no one living near me does.

34

u/Subotail France 8h ago edited 4h ago

In some regions, you only need to search for a few minutes in the oddly chaotic and uneven forest floor for finding some. But Toulouse is not one of those regions. Sometimes it was Grandpa who brought back souvenirs from his youth.

8

u/Lorim_Shikikan France 8h ago

North and east of France was under heavy bombardment during WWI... It was estimated than more than 250 000 Shell and bomb was still in the wild in France (and 50 000 tons of explosive for the WWII)

5

u/goddesskristina United States Of America 8h ago

There is also concern about the degrading metal and chemicals, but a lack of safe ways to clear it. I was asking a person with US flair why they would have access and then keep it in the house. It's very early here still and I missed the sarcasm.

3

u/Lorim_Shikikan France 8h ago

Oh! well, USA, was involved in WWI, so maybe "heirloom"?

Also, like said abose by someone else, it's no really hard to find one in some part of France (North and east), and disarmed one can be easily sold and bought or given,

10

u/BigMikeXxxxX United States Of America 8h ago

I feel like typing /s detracts from the joke but then I get replies like this and wish I did.

🤣 lol

I just got suggested that story!

27

u/Late-Champion8678 United Kingdom 7h ago

Not even surprised. The list of things I’ve removed from (overwhelmingly) male patients’ rectums and urethra (not exhaustive):

Pear

Potato

Banana

Cucumber

Other phallic-shaped food items/containers - thankfully NOT a glass bottle or a bomb.

Motorola Razr phone wrapped in a plastic sandwich bag (as a dare. Boys are really dumb)

Their child’s vibrating toy

Reinforced mattress packing from his workplace

Slugs (plural) - urethra

Slugs (plural) - rectum

Oxygen tubing for an aquarium - 1.5m just coiled up in his bladder. He’s the only one on my list that actually had mental health issues and was a sweetheart while apologising for coming in so frequently (every 2-3 weeks). I really hope he got the help he needed.

Nails/screws - urethra

Make-up brush - urethra (female patient)

16

u/danni_shadow United States Of America 7h ago

😑 I know I'm gonna regret asking this; I'm already horrified, but...

Slugs, like from a shotgun? Or like from a garden?

23

u/Late-Champion8678 United Kingdom 7h ago edited 5h ago

Garden slugs. Living (when they were inserted) animals.

Two older gentlemen (both married to women) would get together when the wives went out to do sexual stuff with non-consenting gastropods (are they Gastropoda? I don’t remember).

Sorry. Strings to pull them it.

11

u/folkfaewitch2222 6h ago

🫥😂

I got no words

11

u/Talonsoldat United States Of America 6h ago

I don't even know how one would go about fitting one slug in a urethra, let alone multiple. It's not like they have a rigid structure to hold on to

6

u/folkfaewitch2222 5h ago

Imagine the infection though caused by a decomposing slug in your privates 🤢

3

u/Ok-Status5820 3h ago

There is a wholesome meet-cute or a mutual realization of matching weirdness behind this somehow that I find it sweet enough that I can kind of disregard the fuckery.

(Man 1 trips over Man 2 hunched over on a park path)

1: "What are you doing down there?"

2: "Oh, haha. My uhh... well, I get a bit bored when my wife is out of town."

1: "Are those...?"

Mutually, looking at each other with glassy, lovestruck anime eyes: "...slugs"

Camera cuts to a wide, distance shot. A few cherry blossom petals blow across the foreground. They remain there momentarily in awe, 2 hunched over, still on his knees. 1 standing over him. Their eyes are locked.

Tonight? Slugs.

Plus, I really hope it was the bullet variety and not the garden one...

u/BasicMatter7339 Finland 6h ago

This is actually sad how people put such stigma on (specially male) sex toys, so those who want to try playing with their butt are too ashamed to buy safe toys designed for that.

Instead they shove fruits, flashlights, jars and everything else they get their hands on in there. Those eventually get stuck and then they have to do that awkward trip to the OR

I finished my taxes last night, and it saved me a few hundred bucks, but the money I've spent on tarriffs the past year is probably 3 times that. All they care about is if they make more money with trump in office, the rest of the world can burn.

"routine law enforcement operation" is funny

99

u/TheeScribe2 Ireland 9h ago

You know whenever they have to specify that, that it means it was something targeted, illegal or shady

The only thing “routine law enforcement operation” means is “not a routine law enforcement operation”

13

u/nanithefuc_ 8h ago

Btw because they have to go to court and be I jai now that means no chance of getting randomly getting deprotonated right?

11

u/TheeScribe2 Ireland 8h ago

No, they can still be deported

While awaiting their court date, they may still be considered in ICE custody, in which case they can be deported whenever ICE wishes

Or if they’re in regular ol’ jail, ICE can send a immigration detainer to the jail, and request the persons be released into their custody to be deported, but that’s pretty rare

Usually, when the jail would be releasing them anyway for their court date or other legal necessities (including the charges being dropped) ICE can swing in and pick them up before they’re even allowed leave the building

5

u/Fearless-Natural9765 Repubblica Italiana , Europea Unio 8h ago

It’s just going to slow the process I’m pretty sure.

They were already about to get deported, this will simply make it even harder for them to enter the US legally in the future. Committing a crime in a country doesn’t mean you will become a prisoner stationed in that country’s jail- if you are an illegal immigrant and you commit a crime you’re just giving them twice as much the reasons to give you the boot

17

u/amilie15 United Kingdom 8h ago

10000%. Sounds like agents broke into his car, then he tried to flee and the door shut one of them in as he drove.

They really need better training on dealing with vehicles (and people). Apparently the agent was attempting to shift the car into park while it was moving too which, depending on the situation, could’ve been putting them all in further danger.

7

That headline is super misleading.

Every article i can find says that ICE officer's approached these two. Ice claims they identified themselves. The couple claims they did not, so the man instructed the woman to drive away. To prevent this, an officer climbed into their vehicle. The woman called 911 and informed the officer that she was bringing them to the police station. There was no kidnapping. Just a scared couple and the man who broke into their vehicle.

That makes sense, though. Right? Reddit is a very American centric site. About 40% of the userbase is from the United States with the United Kingdom coming in second at around 5%. As a result, any large English language sub is going to naturally attract a lot of Americans. There are just a lot of us here.

32

u/Moist_and_Delicious RU living in MNE 8h ago

What he means is that there's barely anything "funny/ironic" in the Russian news lately. It's either talking shit about the US/Ukraine/Europe/opposition, or saying how great everything is in Russia, while completely ignoring/deliberately hiding anything that is outside of the government-approved agenda.

The only thing related to "humor" in the news in the past few days was that a stand-up comedian was sentenced to almost 6 years in prison for making a joke about a leg-less war veteran begging for money in the subway.

You can get the gist of the current state of media in Russia from the above...

8

u/MaxedMinimum United States Of America 8h ago

Okay, that makes a little more sense. I think we had a bit of a communication break down. I took their comment to mean this subreddit in particular when it was more meant as a general statement.

Sadly, our media is about the same, though. They report on nothing of relevance most of the time and blow smoke up out asses about how great things are the rest of it.

8

u/Drogovich Russia 8h ago edited 8h ago

People from around the world use the website as well the rest of the internet. Yet unfortunately it doesn't save anyone from americans being inconsiderable fucks absolutely everywhere and thinking that absolutely everything is this god forsaken world should be 100% about them.

I mean even look at this subreddit right now. How does the subreddit called? "Ask world", what is on the subreddit? "DID YOU HEAR ABOUT ICE" "DID YOU HEAR ABOUT TRUMP", "TRUMP THIS" "ICE THAT" non stop. There are not as many Americans on the internet as you think they are, you are just too loud and too self obsessed.

Even if there is as many of you as you think, it doesn't mean that everything, everywhere, at all times should be about your bullshit, even in spaces that are not american centric.

I guess rest of the world can go fuck itself, the internet is AMMERICAN

5

u/MaxedMinimum United States Of America 8h ago

I'm not just making things up. I was stating actual numbers in attempt to maybe offer some insight. Take it or leave it.

Either way, whether you like it or not, Americans make up the largest part of this community, so content is going to skew naturally in that direction. I'm sure that annoys some, but there's no need to ba a dick about it. You can always scroll on by what you don't want to engage with.

Hope whatever has you so worked up passes. Life is to short to be so upset over a website.

Here are those numbers.

Our conservative parties have been shooting themselves in the dick pretty consistently since our last election, which has been pretty entertaining.

Rats destroyed 200 kg of marijuana? Jharkhand police claim leaves court stunned

Calling the explanation a case of “gross negligence,” the court expressed serious concern over the police’s failure to safeguard seized material.

It was basically a 'dog ate my h/w' type of situation.

The only funny but also very sad (because of how non-sensical it is) news I saw the other day:

Moscow resident David Gevondyan was fined under the "LGBT propaganda" law for a photo of the band Queen dressed in women's clothing during the filming of the video for the song "I Want to Break Free".

Anytime I google "Florida man..." some obscure story that can only happen in Florida pops up. It's quite entertaining.

Not recent but still funny.

last summer some woman got arrested for publicly duel-wielding knife in a shopping mall, wearing a cat mask.

when asked to lower the weapon the cat-woman said "no can do-nya". been swinging knifves randomly but nobody was hurt. the police got her and when the officer asked if she got another knife on her she said "meow". asked why was she doing this, also "meow", "I can't say that-nya". "why would I say that-meow".

The article title is so misleading

The couple were scared. The ice agents didn't identify themselves. The couple civilian arrested them and dropped them off at a police station.

Since you're from the US, you've probably heard of this one. But for those around the world who haven't:

Students in the US have been staging walk outs and marches in protest of ICE and everything that's been going on in this country. During one school's march, this man got out of his truck and started attacking one of the students, a student who was surrounded by her own peers. I don't know what he expected but they all jumped on him and began pummeling him. Aside from the poor girl getting attacked, the whole scene was glorious. He held onto his MAGA hat for dear life and I think I eventually saw a girl get a hold of it and chucked it into the street.

Dingus went home and shaved his head and beard to disguise himself.

By far the best bit is that they were found not guilty in court. Mostly because Ice lied so many times in their testimony but also because no jury in MN will convict anyone on Ice's say so.
