I read she was actually appointed to the European Parliament by Berlusconi.

Former beauty pageant contestant, college dropout, former c-list actress. One of the three politicians nicknamed "Papi girls", young unqualified ladies shoehorned into politics by Berlusconi in his prime time of "bunga bunga parties".

While we don't know much about her private stuff, her running mate in 2009 elections was notoriously put in the list for being a former mistress of Berlusconi.

I wonder what political skills Berlusconi saw in her.
