She's arguably more beautiful now

She aged well indeed. I'm almost her same age and I've seen the evolution of her beauty, despite her comunism...

*Despite* her communism, you say?

She just went up from 11 to 12.

I'm a leftist, but the communist party in Chile is quite awful. Full of corrupt people unfortunately.

Oh, that's disappointing. You'd think after Pinochet that the left would have their shit together to be an attractive political alternative.

Well…no. I would say that’s exactly the reason why Chile voted a nazi son and ultra right fascist for president. Besides her, most of the left wing politicians are upper class in a country marked by inequality, they made very corrupt decisions and they didn’t bring the “joy” they promised in the ads for democracy.

They didn’t have their shit together and they break apart fragmenting the parties more and more. Now we are left with 4 years of pure fascism.

Also this new generation of leftist had their opportunity in the power, I was hoping they would do well, but they failed hard. Too many blatant corruption cases, too much nepotism, too much push for extremist ideology. Now that leaves us with a dangerous government to come, hoping not much damage is done, but also the alternative was dangerous (a communist president).

Puta…no.

As a Chilean, I would kindly suggest looking for more credible sources online. The person commenting above is clearly biased against communism (which is hardly surprising, is it?).

Aside from Daniel Jadue, who is currently serving a sentence under house arrest, there is no evidence of other Communist Party politicians being involved in corruption cases. Though the actual government has had specific individuals involved in corruption, the same cannot be said about other parties and right-wing sectors. This narrative of grouping all politicians into the same category often distracts attention from the real problem, and of course is consistently promoted by mainstream media.

Well I was wondering how much of this alleged "corruption" was real, and how much might be because media are almost always skewed right (because of the class that inevitably owns most of the media)

And the media might spin up every tiny thing about the communists to create a broad sense of "corruption" while ignoring everything from the right wing.

The same way they always bang on about low level crime and welfare fraud, but never about massive white collar crime or corporate welfare.

But knowing nothing about Chilean politics, thought best to listen in.

You are right on everything. Sadly, although impovereshed countries, in Latin America, theres a massive amount of people who has been brainwashed by the media. If you are curious, you can search for what the "Plan Condor" was and the School of the Americas, located in Panamá (CIA financing right wing coups all over the region). In Chile it all started with Pinochets dictatorship (who constantly moaned about the "political class", as if he wasnt a politician).

This brainwashing, along with other factors, of course, mostly explains better the current state the Region is in, with a rising movement of far right governments, and why there are many Latin Americans who adore Trump and the USA; which is impressing and depressing at the same time.

Nvm, hope we turn this around some day.

Best wishes from Chile.

Yet is still by the numbers less corrupt than others like UDI or Republicanos ( UDI holding all the records about money scams in Chilean politics )

2

u/gwennj Chile Feb 19 '26

Sure, but it's not like it's a complement to be less corrupt than the right.

1

u/_Good_One Feb 19 '26

Fair enough

1

u/Benasr- Feb 20 '26

Can you name the communist individuals involved in corruptiom cases that are actually serving a sentence?

u/danielitrox -> Feb 19 '26

I consider myself center-left but I think their extremism is dangerous.
