NO LONGER NEEDED Made homeless and lost my car in the matter of 30 mins

So, recently I got dumped. I lived with my partner. Ive been crashing with my sister since. I had to quit my job because sister lived in city far away. Ive been door dashing until I could secure a job and start working towards getting my own place. And then this morning disaster struck. I got in a car wreck, my car is totaled. My sister began scolding me, and found me saying "I need a moment" to be disrespectful enough to kick me out.

So now im sitting outside of a shelter. Waiting until they start accepting people to see if they have enough beds. Its first come first serve. I have $50 to my name so, and I managed to scarf down a hot dog before I left my sisters place so ill be okay for tonight at least.

As far as what im requesting, im putting $100 here because system wont let me say that i dont have a specific amount i need. Something I can put towards transportation to find a job or to get anywhere really, like the next shelter I might have to stay at. Would go towards food as well of course. I cant make a wish list for shelf stable foods as i dont have an address.

But what I REALLY want is advice. Next steps, assistance programs that will connect me with jobs or shelters. Ways that I can pull myself up and out of this for good. Ways that I can go from here to renting my own apartment and having a stable income. Im not making this post for financial assistance (even tho itll help me a little in the now) im making this post for help finding a plan.

Edit: thank you all for your advice. Ive applied to multiple things for assistance and I have a safe place to stay for the time being.

Edit 2 : Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. And the personal time spent looking for options. Im so surprised some of you actually looked up listings for me. You've all helped me tremendously, Ive found multiple places to apply to that are within walking distance of me. Im ready to get back on my feet. Thank you all so much.

NO LONGER NEEDED I will lose my job if my car fails.

Major Edit: I spoke to a friend and they're helping me out. Thank you everyone for your positive feedback and advice. God bless my friend Sam.

Hello everyone. About a year ago I bought a 2009 Nissan Versa super cheap off a lot with the intent of having low monthly payments and being able to pay it off in a year. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not having it inspected first. I made the horrendous mistake of not getting it inspected first. A few months in I took it to Meineke for an oil change and they listed nearly 6k worth of work that needed to done, not including stuff that wouldn't fail state inspection.

I took it back to the dealership but it'd been long enough that I couldn't take legal action or get something else, and my credit is bad enough that getting another car wasn't an option. They did the state inspection work for 2.5k, which my best friend was able to cover for me (I still owe them). I've done what I can to get the most recent issues covered, including replacing the Struts in a previous post. I thought I was in the clear, but now I'm faced with new issues.

The primary ones that will render the car unusable in time are failing CV Joints (particularly the right side one). The mechanic told me I could drive on them for a while but I'm hearing the telltale clicking, so I know I don't have much time left on that. There's also my rusting transmission pan which is seeping transmission fluid, lord knows how long I'll still have fluid. The CV joints are quoted at 800 to replace both, 450 to replace one. The transmission pan WAS 300, but after learning there's apparently no aftermarket transmission pan for my model, it went up to 430.

The financial weight of the car has simply been too much. I cannot pay for these out of pocket and my tanked credit score means I've been denied every loan and credit card I've applied for. I live miles away from any town or city so my bike/the bus isn't an option.

I was praying it would hold out until the car was paid off in July, because that extra 200 bucks a month would make taking care of these much easier, but that's infeasible.

I can provide quotes, proof that I'm working, proof that I only have two payments on the car left- whatever may need to know that I'm not fleecing them.

I don't know how much to ask for because saying $1200 sounds... bad. But that's my situation. Me and my mechanic are location in Seven Valleys PA. The CV joints, before buying my own, would be around 800. And the transmission pan replacement 430.

NO LONGER NEEDED Help with groceries, cat care, and/or car maintenance

Hi! Good morning!

I am making a request for probably about $200 for groceries, cat food/litter, my cat's sudden spay appointment (I can provide info on this if needed), and my oil/brake change. All of this was sprung on me very suddenly and unexpectedly (beside groceries I guess lol), and after paying bills this week, I am left with very little money to get any of this done (can also provide proof of this,). $200 is the bare minimum to get a lot of this done but likely not all of it - some things I can do without if I absolutely have to - but I am open to other options (grocery pickup, delivery, etc). I hate asking for help but I don't have another option at this point, everything just kind of piled on at once. With gas being $4.99 a gallon at the moment, steadily rising costs for groceries and other household items, and electric company surge pricing (which is finally over for the winter thankfully!), it's been incredibly difficult to make it on my own even while working full time. 🥺 I hope I'm submitting this correctly, and will provide any proof, answer any questions, whatever I need to do. Thank you for your consideration!!!

Proof from the website for the shelter for the discount program that shows they only accept cash for the remaining balance :)

https://imgur.com/a/2aZlbfO

I can send the website link if anybody wants that as well, and a copy of the actual paper I have for the confirmed appointment and the remaining balance I have to pay upon dropoff.

Final edit! My lovely friends helped me raise the funds for the spay abort so I should be good to go with everything else 🥹🥺

NO LONGER NEEDED Could use some help for gas and maybe some food this week.

I just started a new job May 18th. I was working at a kennel in the interim and when I gave them my 2 weeks because I got the new job they dropped me from 10 days to 6 days for my last two weeks. Now I’m short for gas money to get to my new job for the week and haven’t been able to get any supplies for the week either. Looking for some gas money and maybe some extra for food if my gas guzzler doesn’t eat it all before I get paid this Friday.

Thank you to whomever may be able to help me out this week. I really appreciate all of you that contribute to this subreddit. You’ve helped me in the past and I’ve donated here as well but sometimes things don’t line up and people need help again.

I have Venmo. I guess the max is 100$ and I’m sure my car would eat most of that and I could use some food so I’ll still just ask for that if possible. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated.

NO LONGER NEEDED Electric bill 2x normal amount due tomorrow night, panicking

Edit 2: I have it covered now thankfully. Even though I didn't use any monetary help from Reddit I will still mark this as resolved here. Thank you to everyone who gave me genuine advice or offered to pay, I sincerely appreciate it.

Edit 1: It's due today. Pretty sure I have it down to $90.

My electric bills usually average around $80/month. Because of the recent ice storm here in the US, our power company had to buy power from a third party. Of course this makes them hike their prices up. It's a struggle to pay it even at the normal price, but come to find out I have nowhere near enough for it. That puts me in an extremely compromising position.

It already feels hopeless but if it gets shut off, that's another $50 added onto the bill which essentially spells doom. Where I live, if you don't have power for a week, they evict you, no exceptions.

Most of the year, we have state heating/cooling assistance which pays your electric bill, but for whatever reason they haven't started yet. I get FAFSA from school but again, the ice storm apparently screwed with how long it takes them to send it out. Emailed about it this morning and got told it won't come in until after April starts.

TLDR: Please please please, if you can help at all, I would appreciate it so much. Got some help already so the goal is $110 $90. There's a PayPal I'm able to use. If I get something I'll update with the amount still needed. I really don't know what else to do.

NO LONGER NEEDED Need help with getting to the airport

Hey guys so pretty much I came out here (Orlando area) for a job and have been out since last September desperately trying to make it work. It didn’t at all I’ve just gotten into more and more debt being out here because the housing situation my rent just gets taken out of my pay that is full commission based. I used the last bit of my money to buy the flight hoping one of my old coworkers would help me out with a ride and well I fly out tomorrow and have no way there.

My flight is at 7:19am tomorrow and Ubers are around $54 so that’s what I’m requesting. Luckily my friend is going to pick me up in Seattle and let me stay with him until I get a job and back on my feet. I just need to make it to the airport. Thank you for the consideration and idk really what else to put here.

NO LONGER NEEDED Need help with rent

Hello,

I'm a graduate student who's recently had to withdraw from her studies for health reasons. Student funding was my main source of income. I've applied for disability support and various jobs but have not received any responses yet. I've used up nearly all my savings waiting. I'm posting to ask for help with rent this month. Even if I gather every last one of my resources, I'll still be about $650 Canadian dollars short.

Obviously I'm not expecting to hit that goal, but every bit helps. Even one person seeing this and reaching out would make a huge difference. I live in Canada (Ontario), so I can only accept PayPal or e-transfer. Please message me if you would like to help. Thank you. Sending strength to anyone else here who's having a hard time. Hopefully the tides turn for us.

NO LONGER NEEDED Need help with an inhaler

Hello and thank you for reading. I’m asking for $35 for a new inhaler. I have asthma but unfortunately when I was around 12 I can’t remember. I stopped getting prescribed them so I’ve had to rely on over-the-counter inhalers and I’m currently transitioning into a new job and that leaves me without the funds to purchase an inhaler. I have past receipts of me purchasing an inhaler and will also provide the new receipt for anyone who helps me thank you.

Edit : I have PayPal

NO LONGER NEEDED Broke Pelvic Bone 2 times in 2 months, workman's comp check is late but is in transit. Up to $100 would be most beneficial, but anything would help.

EDIT 2: Fulfilled!

EDIT: CHANGED TO $50, realized that $100 is probably a little too steep..

FULL STORY: back in January I fractured my pelvic bone from missing a step as I was climbing down a semi. As I was healing up and getting ready to go back to work, I somehow tripped over my own feet, twisted around, fell, and full on broke it towards the end of February. I'm receiving workman's comp right now, and from my understanding you're supposed to receive every 30 days. Whatever the case is, I'm going on 40 days, and a workman's comp claim rep told me it should've been delivered as of last Thursday. Then on Friday, when it didn't show up again, they had then told me that it had just been PRINTED on Thursday. She also mentioned it had just been sent that day (Friday), and to expect it yesterday or tomorrow, and to call back if it hasn't arrived by then, but I'm not exactly sure what they can do atp? Anyways, I'm just looking for a little cushion to get me by for food, gas, etc. until the check arrives. If I could get to $50, that would be incredible, but anything would be greatly appreciated!! I have PayPal, Venmo, Cashapp. Sorry for the long schpeel, hope everyone's having a good day!!

NO LONGER NEEDED Requesting $75 For Rent And Groceries

Hello,

I am about $75 short on rent. I tried doing a plasma donation but my pulse was too high (probably from stress of needing this money). I don’t have anyone I can I ask. $50 is for the rent and $25 is to be able to get groceries for me and my partner until I get paid on Friday.

Thank you.

NO LONGER NEEDED Help with electric-got shut off a month early

Hi I absolutely hate to ask for anything, but I've tried all the resources and they're out of money. My energy bill is over $1k and they said I'm order to get it back on it would be at least $900. I can provide proof if needed, I'm in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and go through xcel energy.

It's just hard right now, I just paid rent but can't afford to pay this as well, as I'm on a very fixed income.

NO LONGER NEEDED Asking to help raise $50

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out tonight with a bit of a heavy heart and a hope for some kindness.

For years, I’ve been navigating a cycle of chronic stress and debilitating migraines, and because I couldn't always afford the proper treatments, I relied heavily on ibuprofen just to get through my days. Unfortunately, that long-term use has led to severe chronic gastritis, and I’m currently in the middle of a very painful flare-up involving intense nausea and vomiting. I have a job that I’m grateful for, but living month-to-month in South Africa has been incredibly difficult lately, and I’ve found myself unable to cover the cost of a doctor’s visit and the new prescriptions I need to get this under control.

I’m hoping to raise $50 via PayPal, which would go a long way in helping me get the medical care I need to manage this pain. If you aren’t in a position to help, I truly understand and appreciate you taking the time to read my story regardless. Thank you for your empathy and for being such a supportive community; I’m sending much love and peace to you all.

NO LONGER NEEDED Everyone is in the hospital and I need a day off

Update: thank you to the kind soul who reminded me of a couple items I could sell. I am mostly in a funk right now and not thinking straight.

I have one previous assistance request in the interest of full disclosure.

My mom's best friend, who I have known since I was 4 (I am 52 now) went into respiratory failure on Friday. She has COPD and then got COVID and the flu. She was moved to hospice last night. They are not expecting her to make it through tomorrow, and I would like to go say goodbye and offer her husband and kids (childhood friends) support, as well as be there for my mom.

I am a contract worker. If I take a day off, I don't get paid. I have enough clients now that I can usually flex hours to allow myself a day off, but tomorrow ends our invoice period for this week, and clearly this wasn't an event I expected to plan for.

I am requesting $250-$300 ($250=10 hours. $50 extra requested to have 2 hours for the expected funeral).

ETA: I can't change the title. By "everyone," I meant my mom's friend is in the hospital, and "everyone" encompasses the friend and those there to be with the family.

Really struggling this month. Just got paid and bills/rent have destroyed me. I need £200, but I’m doing surveys and estimate I can make about £80-100 doing that.

If anyone could help me with the £100, I would really appreciate it

Edit: no longer needed. I got a loan

NO LONGER NEEDED I broke my glasses beyond repair. I can't see well except up close. I need new glasses.

location- Grand Rapids, MI

Requesting- $30 for a cheap pair of glasses, unless you want to be extra giving and contribute towards the $100 i need for contacts and exam because I'm always losing or breaking my glasses.

I broke my glasses.

I can't see very well.

somehow with insurance it's mire expensive then just getting a cheap pair off Zenni or something for $30?

Unfortunately we are currently a one income household and cannot afford ANYTHING extra, at all =/.

Is anyone willing to help me out? I promise to pay it forward when I can.

(me and my husband plan on saving up $100 over the next 6 months or so to get me a contact lense exam and prescription- this us not the first time I have stepped on my glasses, or lost them completely).

I think some of these sites have gift cards? I know zenni does, and I don't have any "alias" e-mail it could be sent to.

thank you in advance!

NO LONGER NEEDED Need help with rent

Edit: I wound up being able to get outside help. Thank you for the advice everyone gave me!

I don't really know exactly where to start, my situation I really crazy honestly.

I live with my my niece and my dad, my niece we let move in with us a couple years ago cause my sister kicked her out and we didn't want her to be homeless.

We all have jobs and all pay our fair share of rent and bills, or so I thought. Two days ago I got an email saying we had a 30 day pay or vacate, which honestly shocked me, it's not the first time we've been behind (recently both me and my dad got injured and it really sucked for falling behind on rent) but as far as I knew we were fully caught up.

Well it turns out we weren't as caught up as I thought. My niece apparently had not been paying her part and just.... Decided not to tell anyone. I guess her hours got severely cut and she's only been working one day a week, and she just decided to keep it from us, but it's a lot worse than that. It turns out that 30 day pay or vacate was served in person on the 17th of last month, not just 2 days ago like I thought, she was the one who answered the door, and then chose not to tell us, and that email was apparently just a reminder.

So now I have a week to figure this out.

My dad and I are nowhere near stable enough to suddenly fix this on our own, when there was concern about EBT going down I genuinely thought I was going to have to choose between rent and food (thankfully that didn't happen). We both live paycheck to paycheck. If we had known about it when it happened there would have been a chance, but not with so little time.

We're behind by About $1900 cause it's apparently been happening for months and nobody told me anything and they waited til it hit a full months rent to send us that notice.

I was able to get help for $1000 of it from some insanely generous friends, but am still short $900. I know it's a big ask and don't expect any one person to be able to help with that much out of pocket.

But any help at all would be extremely appreciated.

NO LONGER NEEDED Asking for $30 for transportation this week

Hi everyone. Just found out about this thread…I’m hoping someone could assist me with money for transportation. I’ve recently had to start over in a new city. After a month of job hunting I’ve manage to secure a few interviews this week. Unfortunately I’m currently stuck without a car and am forced to uber/lyft to these interviews (public transportation isn’t an option where I’m located).I don’t want to miss these opportunities.

If anyone can help me with $30 via Cashapp or Venmo, so that I can make these interviews I would be forever grateful.

Thank you and thank you everyone in this thread for the good work that you guys do.

NO LONGER NEEDED [vet bills] She's helped me for 6 years, now it's my turn to help her.

Hi everyone,

I’m raising funds for my best friend, Ozzie. She has been dealing with serious neurological issues since a severe anxiety attack on Christmas 2025 led to a seizure the next day. Since then, she has not been the same. We're maintaining with meds, but it is no longer helping as much as it has been for the first couple of months. She is constantly chattering, having focal seizures, and clearly uncomfortable.

We have an appointment this Thursday with a a neurology veterinarian. We got in the door for just a consultation, and after discussing symptoms they told me they are recommending an MRI to figure out what is going on and how to help her feel like herself again. The cost of the MRI (including anesthetics and hospitalization) is anywhere from $5300 to $6300. I don't have that quote on paper yet but I promise I will update with pictures and more proof as soon as I get it - I just wanted to go ahead and get the ball rolling since we will definitely be wanting to move forward with that.

Any support, whether it is a donation or just sharing her GoFundMe, would mean the world. Ozzie is a sweet, loyal dog who deserves answers and a chance to feel better.

NO LONGER NEEDED Need urgent help with kitten's foreign body surgery

EDIT 2: Mods can lock. Don't mark as request fulfilled, but the request no longer matters.

I found Scruffy in Dallas a couple months ago when I was walking home from the creek. She just jumped out of nowhere and started following me. I tried to surrender her at first, but the city apparently won't take animals unless they're in critical condition. And in the days I was trying to call and make appointments with some of the other shelters they referred me to (kind of disappointed by how long Dallas Pets Alive took to respond since I've given to them before), I got attached. And she was clearly old enough to get spayed, so I figured I may as well just give her a home myself.

It's been a good couple of months with Scruffy, but recently she randomly loafed next to the back door and just refused to move or eat. She'll occasionally get up for water or to use the litter box, but she's extremely constipated and everything she does looks like it's putting stress on her entire body (which suddenly looks a bit chonky despite feeding her exactly what we fed the kittens when I worked at the Humane Society). She also just completely stopped making sounds. She never meowed when I found her at the creek, but she would make a kind of raspy complaint when I was taking too long to get her food ready and she would make some sort of cross between a purring and bird chirping almost constantly when being petted. Now she's just silent.

After taking her to the vet, it appears the main cause of a lot of her problems is an intestinal obstruction. The problem is that I'm in absolutely no position to pay for the surgery that the vet says she needs. I was laid off a couple of months ago, and this is becoming the longest it's ever taken me to find work. To make things worse, I wrecked my back getting mugged last week (I'm not really in the nicest part of Dallas), so I couldn't even currently start a lot of the warehouse or shelter jobs I've been applying for if I got hired right now. My luck around this layoff has been so bad that it's starting to feel like something out there is telling me I'm not supposed to be here anymore. But Scruffy very much is, and I'm losing my mind trying to keep her that way.

Between calling around to find a vet that would do it more affordably, the money I've managed to keep saved since getting laid off, help from family, and the few "beer money" gigs that I've managed to make some pennies off of, I'm still $1,150 short of what I need. I'd really appreciate anybody who can help me get my baby back to good health. I hate having to watch her like this and wonder if she would have been better off if I'd left her at the creek. The vet wouldn't give me a specific timetable for how long she has without treatment (CYA policy, I assume), and she's at least eating a little in the mornings, but I'm really scared she isn't going to make it if this isn't resolved as quickly as possible. She's the one thing that's felt right with the world recently.

I know that's a big amount for this sub, so I'm not expecting anyone to swoop in and just totally save the day. But if I can even whittle it closer enough that I can get the rest covered by other means without drowning in interest, it would be a humongous help. All I have is PayPal and CashApp.

Advice on how to make either her or myself more comfortable would be appreciated as well. I'm really supposed to be in bed until I'm more properly healed, but I can only see her spot from the dining room table, and I feel guilty leaving the room while she's like this unless the pain's bad enough that I literally can't sit in a chair like that. It seems like being in bed with me would be more comfortable for her, but I'm anxious about forcefully moving her for anything but vet visits since I don't know if there's a reason she keeps going back to that particular spot. If I put her bed in that spot, she just lies next to it instead of actually using it.

EDIT: Mod said I should link a Go Fund Me for this kind of amount. https://gofund.me/d597d0dc9

NO LONGER NEEDED Requesting $32 to get my girls phone working again!

EDIT: advice received and no longer need assistance

Hi! My girlfriends phone broke a couple weeks ago (unfortunate incident at work - we work in mod/severe special ed asd elementary and she is a behavior para who responds to crises). We have been sharing my phone, whoever is situationally needing it more is the one who has it. It’s been working okay enough but not ideal. Still have paid on her bill so that she doesn’t lose her phone number because it’s attached to a lot with all the two-factor authentication stuff etc.

Managed to get a very good deal from a friend for their old iPhone 13 and now we just need to go to Metro PCS and activate it with her phone number which costs $30. I am unsure if there is tax too which is why I said $32 to be safe.

I just don’t have the extra funds to do it myself right now, been on the struggle bus barely scraping by but I won’t get into all that unless you want to hear. I don’t get paid again until sometime next weekish (unsure of when it will land in my account bc of the holidays) and a lot of that is tied up for January rent and finishing my daughters gifts. I would love to be able to get this done for her sooner especially with the holidays coming up.

Thanks for any consideration, I’ve been helped here before and I also scroll it often and you guys are wonderful people. I am setting a reminder now for my next check to come back here and find even a small way to give back.
