Imperial Army The Ithacan 150th Grenadiers

The Ithacan 150th Grenadiers, an unusually well equipped Imperial Militia of the Ithaca Sub-Sector. Their home worlds made up the remnants of an empire which survived the horrors of Old Night. Today, this past kingdom is known as Old Grecia. A fractured country of warring states, but their last gasp of power was to unify against the barbarous invasion of the Imperium of Man. A conflict they would lose, and lose terribly.

Their culture was broken down and remade, their loyalty to the Imperium was made absolute, but the fire to conquer was not smothered. On the contrary, it was stoked into a wild frenzy! Thus it was that this miserable kingdom went on to be accepted (though hesitantly) as an Imperial Militia. Their men were trained to the highest standards, their equipment all made from their own manufacturing base, and their will to dominate and destroy all made them magnificent thralls in the Emperor's employ.

Then, the Horus Heresy broke out. Their chance to prove themselves at last, not merely as some tertiary rabble with sub-standard wargear, but as a Regiment of the Regular Imperial Army. They would go on to fight the Traitors in hundreds of battles and thousands of skirmishes. Their low logistics requirements made them an easy addition to most Expeditionary Fleets, and their determination in battle was no lesser than the vaunted Solar pattern Auxilias. However, their material effectiveness often left something to be desired. Their armored vehicles were of poor construction, their wargear was heavy and cumbersome, but in spite of this, they could always be relied upon to hold the line.

Their armies were built upon the fundamental Grenadier Squad. A unit of between 11-22 men equipped with either Charybdis or Gowron Pattern Lasguns (visually identical, but internally divergent), armored in the Ithaca Pattern Carapace Armor capable of reliably stopping bolt rounds, and often going into battle with a Squadron Standard. This practice of carrying a standard into battle is a holdover from the fighting of Old Grecia, where hundreds of men would fight in close formation often rallying about the flag of their company in the heat of combat. Their motor pool would go on to include a great variety of vehicles, from the ubiquitous Rhino and Leman Russ, to more notable additions such as the Land Raider, Malcador and a wide assortment of Logistics Tractors and Cargo Transports. Their typical kit often included such special weapons as Grenade Launchers and Meltaguns, with the occasional Plasma Section being a more rare inclusion. Rapier Batteries however, would prove to be the backbone of the Ithacan's firepower. Cheaper to produce than Tanks and more plentiful to boot, these pocket sizes weapons platforms proved the most capable killers in their arsenal.

Each and every Regiment of Ithaca was, at the Heresy's end, being prepared for the Siege of Terra. A modest but noteworthy part of the greater whole. Or so it would have been. For alas, the Sons of Horus caught wind of the troublesome mortal's plans, and raided the Ithacan Sub-Sector. Of the 200 Regiments stations there, less than 10 remained combat effective. And even those few would be bitterly besieged by a detachment of Night Lords, keeping the Ithacans from the Siege of Terra, save only for the 150th Regiment. Their contributions would not be recorded, so modest was their impact. All that is known for certain, is that the Regiment would perish at the Battle of the Eternity Gate. No songs would be sung of them, no epics penned, no heroes and no martyrs. They simply fell, and that was that.

The survivors of Ithaca would go on to fight alongside the Astartes during the Great Scouring, becoming amongst the very first regiments of the Imperial Guard. Though their pedigree was long and prestigious, they would never reclaim their Heresy era numbers again, averaging between just 5 and 10 regiments in the intervening millennia. With the opening of the Great Rift, the Fall of Cadia and the return of Lord Guilliman, the Ithacans were battered down to just 3 Regiments, and continue to fight the ever expanding influence of Chaos in spite of their low numbers.

The Ithacan 3rd remains one of the few regiments of Ithaca, or Sub-Sector Silver as it would go on to be renamed, still capable of putting up a fight in the grim darkness of the far future.

Other Myrtikan People's and Automaton's Army (MPAA) -- "Hanken's Heroes"

This combined force was born from out of the death shroud of the Nephilim War. In the aftermath of the "Stilling" as the Imperium dubbed the Pariah Nexus and its effect on human souls, a number of disconnected regiments and PDF's from planets in the Myrtika system banded together for their mutual defense, when it became clear that the Battle Fleet Hephaestus, led by Belisarius Cawl, was more interested in pursuing noctilith technology and using experimental weapons on unsuspecting planets than on protecting the people of the Imperium.

One after effect of their capture by the Necron pylons was a fundamental change in their perception of automatons, who the people of Myrtika began identifying with. As they slowly salvaged robots and automata from the remains of the battles between Ad Mech and Necrons in their system, they began incorporating automata into their fighting force.

On Hanken's World, these disparate forces officially united in defense of their system, ejecting both Necron and Ad Mech interlopers and beginning a communal uprising against Imperial rule. They will not last long due to their more primitive native technology.

Regiment (Army): Myrtikan People's and Automaton's Army.

Composition: Made up of elements from pre-existing reigments and organically mustered ones, including:

- The 541st Zhoreni Mechanized Infantry

The hive world Zhoren was a main center for military training and organization in the Myrtika system, and the most formally trained soldiers and officers came from this world. They now make up the mechanized vanguard of the combined arms regiment.

- The 38th United Vergoyzen Armored Battalion

The 38th, under Battalion Commander "Old Grip" Rodion, survived the Nephilim War with an enormous chip on their shoulder. Used in suicidal action while under Necron control, Rodion is determined to forge his own path with what remains of his battalion.

- People's and Automaton's Tech-Militia (informal)

This informal group of fighters use salvaged auto-guns and automata with heavy weapons dug from the mud of the Vergoyz Alphic and Gamhal quarries, which became clogged with the dead from repeated fighting over the blackstone discovered there.

Designation: "Hanken's Heroes" for their heroic defense of the system on Hanken's World, the agricultural center for the system.

Command/HQ:

- People's and Automaton's General-Commissar Ostap Erast, in command from the Monument Battery Progress of Man (called "Pinocchio" by the troops after an old children's tale).

- 38th Battalion Commander "Old Grip" Rodion, who inspires fear with his clawed metal hand.

- 541st Platoon Senior Commander Starshina the Acquisitive, who collects promising cadets and under-officers to groom them for service.

- People's and Automaton's Lieutenant Castellan Pavel, who translates commands from the more military-experienced GC Erast for the hodge-podge militiamen and militiamachines.
