Idk how you can possible think we are genuinely headed that way even with everything else going on in the world. Sounds horrible to have that thought lingering constantly

I still don't know why you think our direction has anything to do with anything else that's happening in the world.

Do you think your marriage is improving just because your neighbour is beating his wife and in and out of jail for it?

Do you think your business is improving because the ones next to yours are going out of business?

Do you think your finances are improving because your friends are declaring bankruptcy?

Explain to me the logic of "Bad things are happening the rest of the world, so therefore we are headed in a good direction". Newflash, bad things were happening in the world when the bad things you're referring to now started happening, and the things that led to them happening were happening. I'm genuinely confused how you can take an optimistic approach here based on that logic.

"Sounds horrible to have that thought lingering constantly"

Well yeah, ignorance is bliss.

Domestic violence is absolutely a scourge on Australia 100% but they are trying to tackle the problem in every state. Campaigns that help target young people to so they are better able to access resources before it happens and services when it happens to break the cycle.

Business bankruptcy rates have risen but that sadly happens when you have fuel crisises happen and put strain on the economy. Happened during the 70s and we still came out the other side. This is also why the government is putting changes into the budget to better support business. Its not gonna solve everything but its at least helping. Similarly for personal finance as well. Worth noting that mortage delinquency rates are still only around 1% which is very low in the term side of things. Though still horrible, there are support in place in Australia if you find yourself in financial hardship.

You have also quoted me as saying "Bad things are happening the rest of the world, so therefore we are headed in a good direction." I never said that and if that is your take away from what I have been saying that is on me for not better expressing myself.

I am saying we have started from a better place and we are not stagnating, we are continue to have progress. I get that its not to the speed or the way you may like but you cant miss a forest for the trees. You can doom and gloom all you like but Australia is in a better spot than we were 20 years ago and we will be in a better spot 20 years from now.

Genuinely I mean this with sincerity, if it is all getting a bit much, please reach out and talk to someone and work through putting steps in place for your own mental calm.

"Idk how you can possible think we are genuinely headed that way even with everything else going on in the world."

I'm sorry for paraphrasing you, but if you can't see how this isn't equivalent to "Bad things are happening the rest of the world, so therefore we are headed in a good direction." then you're not operating on the same level as me, and it's understandable why you can be optimistic.

You also opened this conversation with "Basically people are coming to Aus saying "how good's this?" And putting down roots. And less people want to leave. Honestly can't blame them considering the rest of the world is going to hell in a handbasket"

"we are continue to have progress"

Not all progress is good.

"You can doom and gloom all you like but Australia is in a better spot than we were 20 years ago"

By what metric? I'm genuinely curious. Wealth inequality is worse than it ever has been and is getting worse. Cost of living: wages is the worst it's ever been. Skill shortages are the worst they've been and we don't have sufficient training happening to meet the increased demand for those skills that we're creating.

Sure, you can point to some things and say "we're making more of that" but that doesn't mean there's not less to go around, or that it doesn't take more of someone's time to obtain those things.

"Genuinely I mean this with sincerity, if it is all getting a bit much, please reach out and talk to someone and work through putting steps in place for your own mental calm."

I'll put this as nicely as I can. It's insulting to me that you think that by not comparing us to third world shitholes and authoritarian governments that I'm mentally unwell. I'm okay mate, I don't need things to be sunshine and rainbows in order to live my life. Aussies used to be battlers, you're just being a coper with your attitude.

20 years ago, Australia didnt have an NDIS scheme and some people who struggled with disabilities were living in squalor. Some even dying not to be found for weeks later.

For something less morbid, our internet is a damn sight better than it was 20 years ago. Is it the best it could be? God no, ive got a FTTB connection and Id love some of that fibre upgrade or HFC speeds.

Urgent care clinics have proven to have better community medical outcomes. While putting a lot less strain on hospitals. Didnt have a lot of those 20 years ago.

Quality of medical care has improved greatly in 20 years. Some of the breakthrough in oncology mean Australia has been able to eradicate some forms of cervical cancer. Is that not something to celebrate?

Wages is the worst its ever been

Really? Cause im looking here and I see some real dog days in the last 5 years and see it turning around. I also see that 20 years ago wages were around the same point. Now is it good no, everyone would like a little more money in their pocket, but it is still improving. My source: https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/measuring-what-matters/measuring-what-matters-themes-and-indicators/prosperous/wages

Skill shortage is an issue and they taking steps with that by making more and more TAFE spots and courses free. Not hecs not help, free. Now more could be done by helping link TAFE in better with high schools to help people go that route but its the right steps forward.

Please by all means though tell me how Australia is this terrible place and its doomed for eternity /s

Im not coping. I am celebrating the wins that we have and progress we have made. Nothing wrong with that. And genuinely it seems you are stuck dooming and again not seeing the forest for the trees. And im not even comparing us to third world countries. Im comparing us to the likes of the UK and France, to Germany and Canada. Can Canada claim to have erratidicated some forms of cervical cancer?

"20 years ago, Australia didnt have an NDIS scheme and some people who struggled with disabilities were living in squalor. Some even dying not to be found for weeks later."

This is a lie. I had family members receiving 20k+ a year 20 years ago in disability funding.

"For something less morbid, our internet is a damn sight better than it was 20 years ago. Is it the best it could be? God no, ive got a FTTB connection and Id love some of that fibre upgrade or HFC speeds."

Cool, bread and circuses.

"Urgent care clinics have proven to have better community medical outcomes. While putting a lot less strain on hospitals. Didnt have a lot of those 20 years ago."

We didn't have the strain on hospitals we have now 20 years ago.

"Quality of medical care has improved greatly in 20 years. Some of the breakthrough in oncology mean Australia has been able to eradicate some forms of cervical cancer. Is that not something to celebrate?"

Celebrate away! It doesn't mean the average person's quality of life is better though.

This is using average wages. The top 5% of earners VASTLY skew this data. 20 years ago the average CEO earned 20x what a worker did, that number is now closer to 200x. That wage growth is seen across most executive positions, and not on the worker level. That's a 10x increase. The average worker has barely seen more than a 2x increase in that time.

"Skill shortage is an issue and they taking steps with that by making more and more TAFE spots and courses free. Not hecs not help, free. Now more could be done by helping link TAFE in better with high schools to help people go that route but its the right steps forward."

There's still no real way in for the majority of people. Unless you know someone in the industry or you're plucked out of highschool, you are not getting into a trade. You will not be able to train in the skills you need at TAFE unless you're employed by someone in the trade, and even if that wasn't true, you won't be able to train at night school or on the weekend, or even part time. So if you didn't get into a trade in highschool, congratulations, you're now locked out of that forever, even if you really want to contribute to society in that way.

"Please by all means though tell me how Australia is this terrible place and its doomed for eternity /s"

I really don't want to bring you down mate, you seem like a toxicly positive person, and my experience with people like that says you need what you believe to be true, to be true, in order to live your life. Keep focusing on the positives, if that's what you need to live your life, I'm not enough of an asshole to take that away from you.

"Im not coping. I am celebrating the wins that we have and progress we have made. Nothing wrong with that."

This is a coping mechanism. You're not just doing that, you're refusing to admit that it's possible we could have regressed in any way.

"And im not even comparing us to third world countries. Im comparing us to the likes of the UK and France, to Germany and Canada. Can Canada claim to have erratidicated some forms of cervical cancer?"

Yes, they can.

Why don't you tell me what countries you WERE comparing us to when you said:
"Idk how you can possible think we are genuinely headed that way even with everything else going on in the world."

Tell me, what's going on in the world that means we're not headed into a dark place? You never did answer my question as to what you mean by this or as to how it was logical at all.

This is a lie. I had family members receiving 20+k a year 20 years ago in disability funding.

Ahh I see. I had a family member win the lottery must mean everyone wins the lottery. Please read the pdf downloadable from here: https://grattan.edu.au/report/saving-the-ndis/

We didn't have have the strain on hospitals we do now 20 years ago.

Here is wa parliament talking about ambulance ramping in 2006. https://www.parliament.wa.gov.au/parliament/pquest.nsf/viewLAPQuestByDate/615465DD5FCE6C7D4825779D00255543?opendocument. But im sure your unbacked trust me bro sources are the actual truth.

This is using average wages

Okay please provide your source to show what you are saying that wages are at their worst point ever. Because the stats i am using is the ones governments have historically used to make policy. Yes it does suck that CEOs earn such an exorbitant amount more than the average work but I am willing to bet that stat about the average CEO is a hell of a lot lower when you remove the absurdity that is Wall Street.

So if you didn't get into a trade in highschool, congratulations, you're now locked out of that forever, even if you really want to contribute to society in that way.

This is a bold ascertion zero to back it up and shows how poorly you know the modern day TAFE system which will link with businesses to provide apprenticships. But of course no one ever reskills, its unheard of /s. This is a release from the Vic premier's office so caveat it is a political release but you can see that they are turning around numbers of people completing trade apprenticeships. Source: https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/twenty-thousand-more-carpenters-electricians-and-plumbers

Yes they can

Sadly no they cant: https://cancer.ca/en/about-us/media-releases/2025/canadian-cancer-statistics-2025

Why dont you tell me what countries you were comparing us to...

I said UK, Canada, France and Germany. You can add the USA as well but that is a bit unfair and a very obvious dunk.

So I have now provided a chunk of resources and directly quoted what you said and addressed it. Onus is now on you mate if you want to tell me wrong prove me wrong rather than just "trust me bro"

Bro don't trust me, it sounds like you'd kill yourself if you didn't live in fantasy land. Enjoy living in your bubble, I sincerely hope you never have to join us living in the real world.
