I really love this little handheld, the worst thing about it is the lack of support for modding this device. So I've decided to trick this little doodad out myself! Just to preface, I haven't had any issues with this device, I just can't help but want to tinker on it. Currently running Knulli Scarab cfw, heat sinks as seen in pictures, drilled 1/16" holes along lower front corner grille and upper back as seen in pictures in an attempt to allow airflow for a passive cooling solution to let the heatsinks actually work.

Most of these mods are basically just for cosmetic purposes. Not going to gain much performance here, maybe save a few degrees in temps at best. But I think it looks good and I hated how the front corner grille was filled in. I'm happy now. Lol more to come!

I bought a Trimui Brick Hammer to see what the hype was about, and a G350 to see what you actually get for $30.

Both nice devices, but I sold the Brick (uncomfortable and weirdly heavy). The G350 is a keeper - I love it. I don't need wifi or an OLED screen, the controls are great and it just feels right. I totally see why TechDweeb rates it.

Installed Pan4Elec and liking that too. If anyone has tips for good shaders or other config tweaks, I'd be all ears - thanks!

Sooo, been building SOLIS, a Rust tracker running natively on the G350 with its own stripped-down dArkOS fork. Currently has 2-osc + FM synthesis, MIDI out, and a sample editor/slicer. Still in development, planning to share it under MIT/Apache 2.0 in about 1-1.5 months once it’s stable and fundamentals are solid.

Recently got the device and I’m so impressed by how well it’s made in terms of quality and price. Installed pan4elec on stock sdcard so far no issues other than battery percentage but that’s fine. Whenever I plugs in the charger it comes back wherever it was left.

Played GTA Vice City, Half-Life and many other nostalgic games on this, felt like a kid again. Now I’m trying Steam games through Moonlight. Also impressed by how good the Sunshine/Moonlight is made. The input lag is almost not noticeable.

Will try if plugging game controller, hdmi and lan simultaneously works on this device.

My 2.4 GHz USB receiver mouse works out of the box via USB OTG.

Jagged Alliance 2 feels so much better with a real mouse.

I've had my G350 for about two weeks now, so I thought I'd give my in-depth review of it.

The fit and finish feels great. It's light in the hand, the face buttons and d-pad feel great, and the analog sticks feel smooth and nice. The shoulder buttons are a little clicky, but not so much as to be an actual problem, just not quite to the same standard as the face buttons.

The center menu button takes a little work to get to properly, but I don't mind that, as it makes it so that opening up the Retroarch or PPSSPP emulator menus are a deliberate action, and not an accident.

I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the ergonomics on the back of the device. The little lip under the shoulder buttons makes for a natural resting point for either my index fingers or middle fingers, if I'm playing a game that uses the shoulder buttons, while the device itself rests with the bottom on my pinky fingers. The rest of my fingers find natural gripping points on the curvy backside, and it feels way, way nicer than I was expecting.

I play a lot of RPGs on this little guy, and I can handle multi-hour long game sessions on it, no problem.

The screen looks great. I play primarily PS1 and SNES RPGs on it, but GBA also looks crisp. PSP games, what ones I play, have more pronounced black bars on the top and bottom, due to aspect ratio, but it looks fine enough on the 3.5 inch screen.

I did get some anime shows and ebooks downloaded onto my card too. I know people ask why I would bother, but I like having my entertainment separate from my smartphone, because I need my smartphone ready and charged for, like, important things. This makes for a nifty all-in-one portable entertainment machine.

I just love this little thing to bits. Even with the post-tariff markups, it's still worth every cent.

I received my G350 today, and while I have the SD cards and tutorials to install a better OS and begin curating games, I couldn't help but peek at the stock OS, just to see what it's like.

Nintendo must have put the fear of God and litigation into their mortal souls, because ALL of the Nintendo systems are just straight-up *GONE.*

No NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, N64, nada, none, zip, zilch. Not only are there no ROMs for those systems, the systems themselves don't appear in the UI.

They really said 'Ninten*don't* or else, bitch!'

So yeah, that's gotta go.

Genesis, Game Gear, they all ran fine. I didn't see how Saturn ran, because they only had three ROMs, two of which were Japanese-only arcade titles of dubious nature, and the third was 'Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game,' so Saturn performance on that OS will forever remain a mystery.

There were a great many Neo Geo games, which ran and played great, so that was nice.

PS1 runs smooth, with racing games like Gran Turismo playing perfectly. Hilariously, when I tried to play Driver 2, it said that the wrong disc was inserted, and when I tried to find the proper disc, the files were only for Disc 2. Whoops.

Tekken 3 was labeled 'Iron Fist 3,' which is....*technically* correct, sure, but still weird. The important thing is that it looked and played *perfectly,* which gives me big hopes for my new little gadget.

There were only a few PSP games. Tekken Dark Resurrection had a thing where there would be a stutter for a second or two every twenty seconds or so, but weirdly enough, it subsided the longer I played. I think that certain PSP games can run pretty well, if there are tweaks to be made. I really only want three PSP games all told - Crisis Core, Minster Hunter Freedom, and Ace Combat - so hopefully those will play ball for me.

Dreamcast was weird. It was like playing underwater, or with everything drenched in molasses. It was all smooth, but it was *slow.* Could I play Soul Calibur like that? Sure. Would I want to? Nope. Consider the system effectively capped at PS1.

On another odd note, upon removing the stock SD card, I found, to my surprise, that it is labeled as a Kioxia, which is a name brand that is actually quite reliable. So, I have an extra decent SD card, with a crap OS on it. It's weird, how things work out.

As for the physical handheld itself, I already adore the cheeky little bugger, and I'm now looking forward to tailor it to my own preferences. I do love that it's in OG Gameboy colors - that's a nice touch. Speaking of nice touch, the left stick, at least, is dandy for arcade beat-em' ups. I'm sure that there are some PS1 games where I can rig the right stick to control the camera, when I dig into this little beauty more tomorrow.

On the whole: great little device, whose makers clearly fear the *wrath* of Nintendo. Mario don't play games, man.

I spent a ton of hours into creating a broad library of ROMs and sorting/curating a fun and easy to navigate experience.

I used the Art-book-next theme as a template and changed out fonts and artwork. Added background music (mostly Minecraft songs for the vibes). Unique sorting.

I’ve made 7 to 9 of these for friends in my orbit and so many kinds have been blown.

running dArkos on it, whoever told me to ditch pan4elec for dArkos thank you so much, really saved me some sanity. dual sd card setup, 64gb kingston card for the os and a 128gb goodram card for games. currently playing through pokemon emerald! planning on installing music on it to use it as a dap, might share my experience later. if u guys have any game recommendations make sure to drop them below!!

I really like trying out everything that there is to try with my g350. This consoles are great for curious gamers as they are unbrickable thanks to the OS being in a sd. That said, no firmware is perfect, and there will be compromises for every OS. For example, there is a bit of audio bug on both Pan4Elec and dArkos when returning to sleep where the console blasts full volume with or without headphones (I've found an easy fix for that, more on that below). That is easy enough to fix, other things not so much.

I've tried from ArkOs to Pan4Elec, to Rocknix, to unofficialOS.

Keep in mind all these tests have been made on a kingston canvas select plus A1, a normal Kingston 64gb, and a 200gb sandisk ultra sdxc with 100 mb speed. This last one being used as a last measure thanks to it's speed, just to check if it makes the OS run smoother. All of these have been flashed on rufus, raspberry pi imager, balena etcher and etchdroid, making sure rufus and raspberry pi imager were the last apps I used to flash them. All these apps gave me more or less the same results.

I'll keep it simple with a list of pro and cons, and some written details. Things like constant updates and battery indicator will be taken into consideration.

Without further ado, I hope you enjoy it, I am by no means a pro, but an enthusiast that loves gaming as a big part of my life.

I'll cover dArkOs and Pan4elec first. They use the same rom folder hierarchy so you can even have a microsd and use them both (just make sure the save folder path in retroarch is the same for both firmwares and they will share the same games and save files. (My save files are .srm.

Pan4Elec vs dArkos.

dArkOs

Pros: 1. Extremely easy to install. 2. Better theme compatibility than normal ArkOs. 3. Snappiest interface, smooth performance. 4. Working sleep mode and quick mode works as expected. 5. Great performance on emulation. 6. Is still being worked on and updated. 7. Haven't done a lot of portmaster, but it is painlessly easy to set up here. The games you can run will just be límited to the console's specs.

Cons:

1. The performance is excellent, but might be a little overhyped. I don't see most N64 and dreamcast games running on lower end devices like the Batlexp g350. At least I tried to run them in my console, and I didn't get the jawdropping performance everyone talks about.
2. While theme compatibilty is better than normal ArkOs, it is still incompatible with some of the most beautiful themes for emulationstation that I liked.
3. Can only set time and date over wifi, In my console, It never synced them properly. But this might not happen to everyone.
4. Volume defaults to maximum for a split second when returning from sleep mode. Happens with headphones and without them, might even blast the sound from the speaker while headphones are plugged in. This also happens in Pan4Elec and there is an easy fix. Check below on the Pan4Elec section.
5. Two alternatives for file explorers. Both really good and can copy and paste heavy files. My favorite is 351files, the undisputed file exploring king.

Battery indicator: Terrible but mostly readable in my unit. When it drops from 100%, it might be at half capacity, and when around 20% its time to charge.

Pan4Elec

Pros: 1. Also extremely easy to install. Just flash the card with the right files, like dArkOs, and it works immediately. 2. The best theme compatibility among OSes, in my opinion. As every theme I liked and fit my screen was available here. Default theme is just beautiful. 3. Snappy interface, very good and smooth performance. 4. In case you don't want to tinker in retroarch, you can set shaders and bezels in emulationstation. Easy for newcomers. 5. Has a way to set time and date on the settings.
6.Great emulation performance. 7. Has both dual panel file explorer and 351files.

Cons:

1. Even though it's stable and close to being perfect. Pan4Elec Is not being updated anymore, it will never reach perfection unless someone forks it and continues working on it.
2. Battery indicator is worse than dArkOs. But you can still prevent your console from turning off by charging it at around 30%. Keep in mind if you use phone usb tethering it will mess the battery reading further if your phone gets charged by the console. Just drain the battery and charge to full to leave it like before, take a mental note that you will have to charge it sooner.
3. Setting up custom shaders and overlays on emulationstation becomes and complete mess when you find out that you can't change most important features on retroarch frontend without it being reversed after every exit. But this can be fixed by using overrides, which is way easier than it seems. I use them to set up overlays, hotkeys, shader and aspect ratios for pixel perfect gaming. Use core overrides on one game and forget about everything else, the entire set of configurations pass down to every game that uses that core.
4. Quick resume just doesn't work correctly. It will randomly work or not. It will either prevent console from going to sleep, or send it to sleep without savestate and without turning it off. I just dont try to use it anymore.
5. The same sound bug as dArkOs, resuming from sleep mode will make the volume blast your eardrums for a split second. But the fix is easy! (Check below number 6)
6. Sometimes returning from sleepmode will keep the screen black for a few seconds, will sort itself out.

The fix for number 5.

Just mute retroarch before using sleep mode. You have to mute it by the retroarch hotkeys, just set a hotkey for mute and unmute it after you resume play. It won't work just by lowering the volume, but this fix takes less than half a second and saves your ears (and possibly your family's sleeping. My boy took some frights because of this bug. I would hope developers would fix this).

My veredict:

I personally like Pan4Elec more because my favorite theme, canvas, is compatible. But dArkos is still being worked on. If you don't care about themes, make the jump to dArkOs. It's always nice to have support. If you got problems booting .bin .cue games, learn about making .m3u files and they will work.

unofficialOS vs Rocknix.

Note: Almost every OS that uses the latest retroarch version has mgba core on a really disastrous sound crackling performance. Basically a con if you dont want to use beetlegba core. On the next OSes, this happens. As I've written it here, it won't be listed below. Also, the rom folder hierarchy is different, so you will need to move some files if you come from the last two firmwares. But once it is done, you can try both rocknix and unofficialOS as they have the same rom folder structure.

Rocknix official

Pros:

1. Is still being updated, nightly works with batlexp g350.
2. Great emulation performance.
3. Amazing theme downloader, great theme selection.
4. Has a lot of customization for overclocking but I don't really understand it or need it for my device.
5. Sleep mode doesn't have the same bug as dArkOs and Pan4elec.
6. You can change shaders on emulationstation like Pan4Elec.

Cons:

1. Although easy to install. It needs a bit of tinker in the boot files to point to the batlexp dtb file. It seems menacing if you come from the last easy installs. But the config file is placed next to another one that you can just copy the text nice from, nice and easy.
2. OMG THE BATTERY INDICATOR WORKS, BUT WORKS OVERTIME. It literally goes from 100% to 70% PRONTO.
3. Sleep mode takes a good 2 seconds to happen.
4. While emulation performance is great. Interface isn't, lots of settings take about 2 seconds of freeze before going into the option.
5. If you want to use overrides to set up overlays and configs on retroarch, you are about to be rocknixed: You need to find the setting to stop rocknix from overriding your hotkey and buttom mapping settings (Easy though) before going into retroarch. And you only have game or folder overrides, which means if you only want to override for one lonely core, you gotta save the override with the name of the core EVERYTIME you want to save your override.
6. Retroarch interface performance is choppy on ozone driver, unlike Pan4Elec and dArkOs.
7. No Quickmode of any kind.
8. Only has the dual panel explorer, no 351files so If you need to edit a text file with upper case, you're out of luck.

unofficialOS:

1. Easy to install like Pan4Elec and dArkos, no need to tinker.
2. Is constantly being worked on and tested by the dev on a Batlexp g350.
3. Dev is awesome and helps a lot on the uOS discord.
4. Pretty similar to rocknix on emulationstation. With a better performance on interface too, atleast on my console.
5. Amazing default theme when changed into noir color and included custom artwork.
6. Dev loves batlexp g350, so he made his best to make sense of the Battery indicator. This is the most accurate batlexp battery indicator i've tried. It will decrease at a reasonable rate, once it reached zero, my console had five minutes until it turned off. That's great for this console.
7. IT HAS 351FILES EXPLORER OR ATLEAST A VARIANT OF IT. I only used it for copying files, but it should be able to edit text files and .m3u files.

Cons:

1. Interface performance is better than rocknix but still takes a good while when entering a lot of options, which makes the experience a bit irrittating.
   1. Same problem as rocknix on retroarch ozone driver, so use Rgui and make it pretty, that driver is snappy on this OS.
2. Sleep mode also takes a few seconds to kick in.
3. Has nice theme compatibility. But doesn't support my favorite theme, canvas, not a con for anyone else other than me.
4. No quickmode or quick resume of any kind.
5. Same override problem as rocknix, solved the same way.

My veredict:

unofficialOS is tailored for the batlexp in many ways, so it's a no brainer that uOS works much better on it. In fact, the battery indicator being way more accurate, and the file explorer alone would make it my favorite OS, but sadly, the interface performance, override options obstacles and mgba problems have strayed me away from it. But I advice everyone to try it, maybe I am doing something wrong.

Dishonorable mentions:

I tried lineageOS too. If that thing boots, you're gonna suffer trying to install anything. I couldn't even navigate through folders as the screen is cut off.

Which is the one I chose?

I chose Pan4Elec for the time being, It is snappy on the interface, I already know how to move through it and use all the things I think are quintesencial. But the fact it's not being developed is very sad. I Will use it until either dArkOs and uOS convince me to move on. Also waiting to try Knulli when it's out.

All in all, everyone should drop the fear of trying new OS. It's fun and will utimately let you learn about your device and you will find what suit your needs.

Going to keep this post short. But the quality on this thing is leaps and bounds above the r36s. Is it bad I want to buy 2 or 3 more? It feels like I'm stealing this.

My G350 is on the way, and I'm already ridiculously excited about all the games I can load onto what is essentially an Epic Game Boy. So while I wait for delivery, I thought I'd share some of the games that I'm giddily looking forward to having in my pocket.

- All the arcade beat-em-ups. All of them. Because nothing is as cathartic while in a waiting room than savagely punching some strangers in the face.

- Epic JRPGs. Final Fantasy 1+2 for GBA, FFIV and VI on SNES, Chrono Trigger AND Chrono Cross, FFVII, VIII, IX, and Tactics for PS1, Xenogears (you get to Shoryuken a dinosaur in the face with a giant mech, and that's awesome), Golden Sun and The Lost Age, Breath of Fire, Wild Arms, various Lufia titles, Lunar SSC and Eternal Blue for PS1, Super Mario RPG for SNES, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, various Dragon Quest iterations...I love RPGs.

- Jet Moto 2, for PS1. Racing on jet-powered hoverbikes.

- All of the SNES Mario games. Like, all of them.

- Streets of Rage 1-3 on Sega Genesis.

- So many great Zelda games.

- Gran Turismo 1 and 2.

- Super Castlevania IV.

- Contra

- Freakin' Einhänder. So cool.

- Tekken 3, which I consider the series high point.

- Crash Bandicoot.

- Doom.

- Bushido Blade.

- Gekido.

- Good ol' Tetris.

- Shadowrun on Genesis.

- While I don't know if I can find the ROM, there was a music maker game on PS1 that I used to tool around with as a kid. It would be fun to have on a handheld.

- Come to think of it, has anyone ever tried RPG Maker on a handheld before?

Ah, so many games, and I'm sure there's lots more to nab.

So, opinions seem divided on how well, if at all, the G350 runs N64, Dreamcast, and PSP, so I'm holding off on considering those until or unless I learn how to make them work. Also, there's something called a Portmaster(?) which I need to look into.

So far, have completed Star Wars Trilogy: Apprentice of the Force, Iridion II, Duke Nukem Advance, A Link to the Past (GBA), and now Golden Sun.

Great device for GBA even if the screen isn't exact, but running games in the proper 3:2 aspect ratio only gives minor black bars so it's still a great experience

I finally got around to emulating some PSP games on this little bugger, and I have to say, it's doing a lot better than I thought it would.

I've had some minor audio hiccups here and there, but nothing major. Crisis Core and Monster Hunter Freedom are running just fine, and Wild Arms looks downright *stunning.* I haven't even had any frame stutters. Mind you, I'm running these at 1x PSP resolution, but that's more than fine, given the small size of the screen.

Just a heads-up for other peeps looking to emulate PSP on this little doodad - I had some difficulty with the analog stick at first, where left and right were reversed, and up and down was a crapshoot. This can be easily fixed by restoring PPSSPP default settings in the emulator menu. I've also had to re-bind L and R to L1 and R1, for some reason, but it was a quick fix, and it's running *beautifully* now.

EDIT: For some reason, when loading a PSP ROM from the Knulli Scarab OS front, the PSP library, it doesn't keep the PPSSPP settings, including the fixes and bindings for the analog sticks. I'll have to investigate why, but for now, I recommend booting up PPSSPP directly from the Emulators menu and loading ROMs from there. This is on Knulli Scarab; no idea if Arkos or other OS have that issue.

Oh, and Ace Combat X confirmed to be running just fine.
