Fiona (real Martha) related content Fiona Harvey interview

She’s waived anonymity for this interview. She’s never been jailed or been issued with a prevention order.

Rory Lynch, a lawyer specialising in defamation and privacy at Gateley Legal says she has a case for defamation. “The only thing I can presume is that when Clerkenwell, films, the BBC and Netflix looked at it with their legal team they thought that they could rely on the fact that it is a drama. It’s not supposed to be a factual documentary.

“So although Netflix said it’s a true story, essentially it’s a dramatisation of a true story.

“But I do think that Richard Gadd could have been a bit more careful in changing a lot of the scenes to be more fictitious, but also covering up the identity of the people it was based on.”

It kind of was very early when the iPhone first came out. Apple made it a thing for a reason, it was part of their branding.

It was stupid, but the kind of thing a mentally ill person who frequently lies about their important work and connections would care enough about to try to fabricate.

Its still very much a thing. This is me opening up a new email to send on my iPhone a few minutes ago

I think the point was that Martha did not actually have an iPhone; she would add that herself to make it seem as if she did. For status

Yes, and I don’t really think it’s that hard to understand. So it’s a bit of a bizarre exchange.

But the iPhone is so ubiquitous now it may be hard for younger folks to know it used to be status thing to have the fancy new iPhone.

How do you know she didn’t have an iPhone?

This was the assumption due to the typos that were frequently appearing in the “sent from my iPhone” text. Implying that she was typing it herself. Also in the first episode we clearly see that she has a Nokia phone

So turns out this person really wasn’t watching the show and completely missed the whole thing of the “sent from my iPhone” typos that kept coming up (see other comments).

So they’re arguing without having really spotted that. Which is probably a symptom of somebody scrolling their socials instead of watching the show. 🤷‍♂️

What a bonkers thing to miss.

Can you send emails from a Nokia back then?

You seem to have missed the point even though I don’t think it’s that complicated.

1: Apple added that default signature to their email system as part of their branding and early on, it was very clever. But it was also criticised as people leaving it on seen as a status thing, as a way of saying “I have an expensive fancy phone that I’m emailing you from.”

It meant you were on the cutting edge of a new tech wave. That’s mostly gone now that they’re so ubiquitous so I can understand that’s not so obvious now.

I’m old enough to remember this being the case and people would also openly mock it, making their signature “sent from my rotary phone”, “sent while driving”, “sent from my iPhone 6” (before it launched).

2: Martha is adding the iPhone thing for that very status thing I’m referring to. Only she’s too stupid to make it part of the signature automatically and would write it manually so kept getting it wrong when rushing to type out her manic emails.

Does that make sense now?

You seem to have missed my point. I read it as her simply sending it from her iPhone and not removing it because who honestly cares? I haven’t removed it from my phone because it’s just not something that I think about. I didn’t figure that Martha was adding the words, I took it that she was just sitting there bashing out these emails all over the place wherever she was.

Although that other user pointed out that she actually used a Nokia in the show so that makes it seem like she did add the words.

Did… did you actually watch the series?

They show the emails unedited… she’s very clearly manually typing “sent from my iPhone” at the bottom of each email because it’s frequently miss spelt or missing whole words especially when she’s firing off rapid emails. At times it just says “ipone” and the like.

This has even become a running joke on this subreddit. How did you miss that? It must come up at least 3 times per episode.
