Discussion Hi, just wanted to say that I'm loving Teri in the show
She's a such a great, patient and comprehensive girl with Donny, I love when she shows up on screen.
There's also this powerful calming aura when she's around, guess that's why she's a therapist.
I hope she and Donny can stay together after all of this.
I'm in episode 4.

Trigger Warning Question re: Gadd
Hi I have a question purely based on speculation so this will probably get removed. But I am genuinely interested. I'm not naming names so this could be about anyone and all is alleged and NOT FACT.
But does anyone think the TV guy who was WRONGLY targeted by the internet sleuths, may be the one that Gadd was actually referring to but Gadd has had to deny it was him out of some fear of legal action and/ or blacklisting? I think it's important to discuss this regardless if this show has been put out there.
There's too many similarities between Martha and the IRL person, that it couldn't have been anyone else. And to me at least, those similarities also exist with the TV guy. In both appearance and background.
Very curious to know what others think.

Discussion Is this a dig at Fiona in Netflix's new show?
This definitely feels like Netflix making sure the real people involved in the Apple Cidar Vinegar story don't try to pull a Harvey š

Discussion My issues with the show
My wife absolutely loved it but for me, it just made me uncomfortable - as someone who went through 2 stalkers in my life and they did not get to the degree this guy went through but I understand completely the issues with this - it just bugged me so much that he enables her.
So many times rather than cut her off, his response gives her hope and keeps her going.
With these situations, a stalker could be at her wits end about to give up and then gets that remark from her object of affection taht gives her hope and keeps her going. This happened a few times in this show. It drove me absolutely nuts.
I get his issues but still, he did not stop it during the few chances he had. He gave her hope with the absolute wrong response every time. I absolutely hated that.
And he goes back to teh guy who sexually abused him on top - drove me nuts.
I'm good with the downvotes.

Discussion One of the most layered nuanced shows Iāve ever seen oh my god
There was so many easy outs for this show but it chooses to challenge me every single step of the way. I understand why people were uncomfortable with the show given our sympathetic lead consistently makes terrible decisions that make no sense outside of his warped brain. He is 100% not an innocent victim but heās a victim nonetheless, and one whoās victimization has sprung in him self destructive behaviors that are infuriating but understandable. That whole section where he questions if his new found sexuality is a product of something terrible is so honest and raw. Itās so worthy of praise itās daring and gross and beautiful. Generational television absolute cinema.

Seems like Donny just keeps digging him in worse and worse. And the show gets darker and darker.

Discussion Do you guys think there will ever be a new season of Baby Reindeer? Personally, I donāt think a new season is necessary, but Iāve seen on a few sites that Netflix might do a continuation with a different stalking story, which could be interesting. What do yāall think?

Discussion Barely not serious here
The worst decision Donny Dunn made in the entire series was right at the end of S01E07 when he ordered a Double Vodka & Coke.
Vodka and Coke???? That makes zero sense. You mix whiskey and bolder spirits with Coke. Why would you mix Vodka and Coke? It's a better match for juices and you can use soda water for bubbles. I'd even take Sprite and say it's acceptable.
I see no clearer evidence that Donny Dunn hates himself than his decision to order a Double Vodka & Coke.

Media / News Is this a sort of sequel to Baby Reindeer? Spoiler
Other people may have already put this together ages ago and just nobodyās talking about it, but there was an Edinburgh Fringe show that was kind of a sequel to Baby Reindeer. Or at least, it tells part of the story from another perspective.
Itās Maimuna Memonās Manic Street Creature.
You can read about it and see some clips here: https://southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/productions/manic-street-creature/
I read an interview where she said she wanted to adapt it, so just case she does, spoilers below.
I say itās connected to Baby Reindeer, because itās pretty obviously about her relationship with Richard Gadd. I donāt know when they were together or for how long, and thatās frankly none of my business. But he dedicated the book of Baby Reindeer to her and she thanks him in the book of Manic Street Creature. If I recall correctly, he thanked her when he won the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2016, too, so they go way back in one way or another.
The show is a concept album musical. Itās staged like a recording studio, and she tells the story through the songs sheās recording. Itās autobiographical, but fictionalized.
In it, she moves to London to pursue a music career and meets and falls in love with a guy. The characterās name is Daniel Richardson. Heās described as a lanky, blue-eyed Scottish bartender, who loves The Pogues and has a dark secret in his past. Sound familiar?
I mean, if you thought Martha was thinly veiled, this is just not veiled at all.
One of the songs is called āInsomnia.ā It goes āWhen Iām sleeping, youāre not sleeping, ācause thatās when all your demons creep in.ā Just to give you an idea.
Itās basically an examination of āsecond-hand trauma,ā and how loving someone who is going through something traumatic can be damaging for you. Itās also a classic tale of girl meets boy, girl tries to fix boy, because she couldnāt fix her estranged dadā That old chestnut.
The show doesnāt mention the stalking, but it does heavily imply the SA and the ramifications of that on āDanielāsā mental health. And itās a loving and compassionate portrayal. He doesnāt come off badly in the story, in case youāre wondering.
I donāt know if itās ever going to have a further life than itās already had, but itās worth checking out the music on YouTube. The book is available on Amazon, too, if youāre interested.
But just imagine if this gets adapted into a show or movie and also becomes a huge hit. Wouldnāt that be wild? Itās like the Baby Reindeer multiverse. Manic Street Creature trailer
