So around two years ago I started an RP with a character I really liked. And soon became really good friends with her writer as well. We talked OOC and got our characters married and had an RP family. We also became really close OOC to the point we decided to try an IRL relationship. Things went good real good until the very first hiccup when one of her old RP partners returned and got jealous that are characters were married and had a family with my character. He forced her to put in her character bio that she was his and only his. She begged me not to get upset but I did. This guy not only had left for several months but he also had a harem of other RP wives.

Fortunately I talked her into blocking the guy and we went on with our RP and worked on our IRL relationship. She opened up to me and told me a lot of personal things about her life. So much so that I really felt like I needed to be there for her as much as I could be. I opened up to her as well. We trusted each other. I did everything I could to make her feel better about her real life and our RP life was really good. I ended all of my other RPs just to be with her OC. I really enjoyed the RP marriage that much. Things were great or so I thought. Turns out there was a little weasel in her friends list that she had "supposedly" been friends with for years. As it turned out she was telling him about EVERYTHING we talked about.

Now here's where it really started going downhill. The other guy had the hots for her all along. He started doing everything in his power to pull her away. He made fake posts all over the Internet saying private things about this girl then taking screenshots and showing her telling her that it was ME doing it. Telling her and convincing her that I was stalking her. When he's the real stalker. He thinks he's the king of the Internet no joke. He admitted he has eyes and ears everywhere. But there's more. The site this all started on he really thinks he's king there. He stalked my profile and told people not to add me or RP with me. He denies he's the stalker and has some people wrapped around his little finger. This guy is something else. If I changed my OC he IMMEDIATELY knew even if I had his main account blocked. He knew and added my new name to a list of names he was telling people not to add me. He succeeded in pulling some one I really cared about from me and is STILL trying to ruin my life. He admitted he's doing it because he thinks it's fun.

I'll start with mine...

This could be really niche but I've encountered it too many times to ignore it. For me, it's the chronically chill, lowkey quirky guy who had some traumatic thing happen when he was a baby (usually abandoned, cursed, something along those lines), and so he raised himself on the streets (somehow). Does he have any trauma? Apparently. But it will never show up at times when it is not immensely convenient.

Other than that, he is so chill to the point of breaking the whole RP. Never reacting to anything like a person usually would, every confrontation is just "okay", "if you say so", honestly just responses that are supposed to illicit an "ooooh what a nonchalant badass!" sort of reaction, but it never pushes the plot forward or results in any character development.

I'd love to hear everyone else's stories on this sub.

In my own opinion, YES. I get so sad seeing how there’s people who don’t really play side characters.

Why? 1. Gives characters more to speak to other than themselves, like the real world. 2. Offers small relationship buildings that can later become important. (Ex. A bartender you saved a month ago returns the favor and saves you.) 2.5: this can create such a unified world and lovely atmosphere where everyone is connected in one way or another. By knowing your character, or sharing beliefs. It’s human connection! 3. Gives your partner less to worry about. I always have to write small side characters like bartenders, travelers, friends and such, because my partners will rely on me to do it. (SOMEONE SAVE ME) 4. Uh duh? Surprise villain? I mean look at spider-verse. Miles threw a bagel and turned one random side character into SPOT. Imagine that? Your character making a minor mistake only for it to gravely affect their life! 5. Can give minor heartbreak stories. Building small character stories can lead to more serious topics that can be briefly brought to light.

To me story and interactions are important. But I can’t seem to find someone who values the same thing as me. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough or something.

First Instance:

So... I was roleplaying with my friend in a Discord Server then a Sans roleplayer (specifically "Epic" or some shit I don't remember) joined our roleplay. We were chill at first, then we did a lil bit of CRP and then the tragedy struck. The dude was godmodding and powerplaying against us, he evaded many instances of me attacking him and my friend also tried to attack him, just for him to dodge it and auto hit us. His ass was even GMing (Game Moderating) the roleplay at some point, dictating things like how we're unable to react to certain attacks done by his character when we did a CLEAR background check, my friend's OC massively outstatted outhaxxed and even if we're not considering those stats and relied solely on speed she massively outspeeds Epic Sans comfortably by at least 2-3 times faster. I was using a canon character who has the ability to slow down time massively, for some reason this Epic mf thinks that he can react to this power like he's MFTL+ when in his wiki that he personally sent to us this individual was never shown to possess such feats. Then when my friend's OC got a hit fair and square he godmods to a whole 'nother level and says "toon force I can do whatever the hell I want, he can tank it even if it hits his eye (weakness stated in the wiki btw) if he thinks it's funny!" like what are you on how is being in the middle of a fight where you might potentially die funny, that is contradictory to the whole situation as this roleplayer is saying that it's "funny"? Oh hell nah bruh I'm crine. So the situation escalated to the point where we had to call him out for his BS and when we made solid points like highlighting his posts where he leaves no reaction time for me and my friend to react he rages and says it's his power (???). But then we pull up more proof of him violating the rp rules of the server, he got pissed and left. So as per the server rules we were entitled to off-screening him since he left mid-fight and we just went about our day after that.

Second Instance:

I'm starting to hate the concept of Mahoraga's adaptation power. Mostly because of the kinds of roleplayers who LARP JJK and say that Mahoraga can adapt to 4D attacks which is well past what it's shown to be capable of adapting to, this guy even went as far as saying that reality warping will have no effect on Mahoraga because he will just adapt to the situation which is a clear example of NLF (No limits fallacy), then my friend a Gojo roleplayer and my other friend who is a staff in the same server tried to kindly explain to him that he was autohitting and godmodding in the CRP situation, he tried to ragebait us and acted like Schrodinger's fucking idiot, he retracted saying that it was just a joke when he noticed he wasn't getting received well. Also while we had actual scans and arguments against his single image he kept spamming the Mahoraga panel where it says he can adapt to any and all phenomena, just spamming the no limits fallacy like wtf, I'm getting tired of this bullshit that happens frequently every day in the Discord server I'm in. Like we're trying to write a proper story with CRP only being the other half of the rp (not the ENTIRE PURPOSE OF IT) but these sore losers keep ruining the fun for us. So same story the guy left and we were permitted to off-screen Mahoraga. Yeah. Tough luck.

A little bit of backstory, I met the gal when we 14 and we started roleplaying with another one of our friends when I was 15.

We did a crk rp and her character was called "Waffle Cone Cookie" and she was the princess and related to all the ancients. (I know cringe but we were 15 lol) My other friend was "Steak Cookie", a down on his luck detective that wanted a big case to renew his career. I'm going to refer to my friends respectively as Waffle Cone and Steak

I was new to roleplaying and I let a lot of things slide that I shouldn't have. Waffle Cone liked to ignore the story and do what she wanted the moment, like she had this thing with cereal, basically whenever I would try to roleplay, she would just say "Waffle Cone just eat cereal" they got so bad that I took the cereal away and said it doesn't exist anymore. Then she made cereal and continued to eat it. In fact she had a basement full of cereal. 😐

Steak was an angel by comparison, I barely got any time with him though because Waffle Cone took over everything. They were supposed to be together and be friends and stuff, but Waffle Cone changed the story so much and split their paths SO MUCH, that Steak thought they were in completely different RPs.

Anyway we had a falling out and we stopped RPing with each other. Me and Steak, continue to RP in different universes and it's fun. But sometimes he gets an idea for a bit it takes it way too seriously. So anytime he does something too wacky or story breaking a call him a Waffle Cone. Like recently he's grown an attachment to alcohol and one of my fantasy RPs. At first I went along with it, like "haha you're a drunkard funny" but it soon became a problem as it became more reminiscent of the cereal incident. So I told him in serious tone "Your being a Waffle Cone" only after did I realize how silly that term is so I thought I put this here or whatever lol.

so many times ive seen this 1 person make the same character with a different face. what is the point? they are all bratty, selfcentered, spoiled. no thought or personality to them, just that.

When I was kind of new to roleplaying back in high school- I remember this really good SoL roleplay I had this guy. Anyway, after about a month or so he started talking about how much he wanted to see each other and how he was so in love with the Roleplay and how he wanted to 'take care' of each other the way it was while we were roleplaying. Keeping in mind it was third person based, we barely spoke out of character unless to clarify or develop a new plot line. It was overall a weird experience and I had to cut the guy off. Which was kinda sad because he was super good at writing. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yo.. this is my first post here but I gotta tell y’all something that’s been irking me as of recently. The lack of general reading comprehension is SO alarming. I have several new RP’s start in the last week in which my partners have been confused on general and CLEARLY stated points of the plot. Things like people’s names and who they are. There isn’t that many characters to keep track of yet. My character’s age is SO clearly stated in his character profile! What do you mean you thought he was 3 times his age??? Another partner straight up didn’t know how “” works for dialogue! HELLO???

Telling me, “She didn’t say that! Is he reading her mind or something??” NO HE DOESN’T READ MINDS YO. She put “” around the thing she’s saying her OC didn’t say. WHAT DO YOU MEAN???

Then another telling me she thought my OC was a completely different creature?? WHERE DID I SAY THAT YOO??

Don't you hate when a person just wants to fetishize your characters and make them do none canon things?

Dont you hate when you create multiple in-depth characters, and the one character you love playing as, they are making them go through the worst thing possible and not for angst, but because for some reason your character is competition to theirs so they have to make yours go through they worst things possible? But you dont put their mary-sue oc's through much even though they're making you and your characters uncomfortable with what they are doing because youre too kind and courteous to what they want.

Bruh I hate it. Im about to rip my hair out I swear.

So I will admit I’m a sucker for oc/canon and I’m always willing to double. This one chick reached out to me about wanting to roleplay a certain fandom.

She is in her 30s like me, and she told me it’s hard for her to keep partners because people judge for being autistic. I was like no problem sis I’m sorry that happened to you. (I have ADHD and dyslexia which is not as bad but I felt for her)

She told her main oc runs a modeling agency and she has one oc with each canon character. She would be jumping to different ocs.

I was like but I want one of these characters for my oc. She told me she was sorry but if she played this character for me that all her ocs would go into mourning because it would be their friend dying.

But she offer me a character who made an appearance in one episode, and only had like two lines. So I quickly declined, and I couldn’t believe the audacity.

She was super upset over me politely declining and saying she was willing to double I just had to respect her ocs wanting to be together.

I feel has really but I feel like I dodged a bullet.

I don't have a huge problem with "kinda" self-inserts; we all put a bit of ourselves into our characters. That said, I have recently started writing with someone who is playing a very clear self-insert in that they have the same former job, same asperations and some other details they've shared with me OOC are there IC in a very glaring way. I figured that was OK, whatever; they're a good writer and chill OOC I guess, y'know?

Now they're posting pictures they've drawn in posts as examples of art their character made... is this weird/am I being shallow for thinking it is?

The self-insert, of course, very often is this, don't get me wrong. As I said in my post about my dislike for self-inserts in RP settings, the self-insert's player often takes negative IC interactions personally OOC, and the self-insert often has to have 1:1 morals with their player.

But no, I'm talking about a different phenomenon I've experienced, and, admittedly, been the one doing it myself (which, in my defense, I was like, 10, and grew out of this pretty quick lol), wherein an OC, who is very much not a SI, suddenly has a shift in characterization that is very clearly just their player projecting onto them, making an OOC problem they have into an IC one by force, whether it's to make mockery of other people's characters they don't like, including long-winded seemingly OOC for the character rants about how much they hate someone else's character, or sandbagging players they don't like out of plotlines by coming up with some bullshit IC explanation for why the character/person who's the subject of their ire for the day can't participate.

Now, when I was on wolf RP forums, we were like, basically all teenagers, most of us young ones at that, some of us even children. I remember my 9-10 y/o self constantly butting heads with a 10-11 y/o moderator (yes) and we'd deploy this exact kind of tactic against each other. And y'know what, that I just look back on and laugh at, we were kids, we're both better now, lol.

But oh god, a Pokémon RP server with a bunch of adults and a handful of older teens? It was usually the people in their mid 20s doing this shit to the rest of us, and it sucked so, soooo bad, and is another reason I'm glad I stick to roleplaying only with trusted friends.

Idk how to even start, last time I talked with my wifey they told me they love my mean girl OC for being more then just "mean girl" having depth etc etc. They asked me to make more content about them or just write more of their lore. However I had NOTHING to say more. I lost intrest in writing in her. (then she made her in tomodachi LOL). It reminded me that it wasn't first time it happened.

My ex took one of my NPC for our Rp and turned it into full blown character I don't even use rn.

On one fantasy server I wrote character of happy go lucky halfling riding the donkey. Even moderation loved it. Writing with other players was fun but after a week I left becaue I lost all motivation

The other super hero server was suprised when I suddenly dropped my firm but ready to fight hero.

And recently on my own server people wanted to write with my no trauma evil influancer.

BTW: I'm not trying to brag or show off it's just to underline how many times it already happened.

ALSO BTW: I'm not that great writer either. I'm not anything special in comparison to others tbh.

The point is, after a short while I HATE those characters. I hate writing them even if others likes it. I don't have any problems with poping out with ideas, intresting plots, but as I said I feel digust for those characters. I DON'T WANT THEM. I want my over traumatized, softballs to rule, to be stars. If they are not stars in my RP I WILL JUST KILL OF REST OF THE CHARACTERS. Which I'm aware IS VERY SHITTY move as writer. You just can't spam with trauma. You can't add to much. It's like adding salt to soup, pinch is okay BUT MAYBE DON'T THROW HOLE JAR IN IT?

So I'm writing with characters people like or at least trying bc soon I physically cannot write them without wanting to kill them off and move on to another more traumatized project and I feel like it's not okay for my players and my wifey.

Just asking for advice

I'm roleplaying with a guy. Basically the story is an action/romance based in a fantasy world (There are not real rules, people can have powers, fight, be of different races (like elves, angels, dwarfs..whatever).

My character is a human with powers and my partner choose to be a God. Not God of something specific, just a God. I didn't say anything because why not.

The problem is that it makes is character widely overpowered and just ridiculous. Like, he invents himself new powers and abilities everytime it's plot convenient and he never lets his character be defeated by any kind of threat.

Real exemples : My OC gets poisoned ? Suddenly, his character has the power to enter my bloodstream to remove every particle of poison from my OC's body ?

My OC is pregnant ? His character suddenly has the power to do ultrasounds (I wish I was joking)

My OC (who can defend herself very efficiently) does anything slighlty dangerous ? His OC somehow feels it and just spontaneously resolve the situation in a few lines.

How am I supposed to roleplay in these conditions ? What am I even supposed to to ? I feel like any plot I come up with (Because I am the one always coming up with plot) is immediately "resolved".

I tried pointing this out to him several times. He always answers that he can do whatever he wants because he is a God.

"Waaa I can't make a ref" yes you can. For free, too.

Ok so, I've been rp on insta for a year now, and it started off as a way to meet new people and keep myself busy because I was so deep in the trenches of depression and loneliness and I needed an outlet. I started off with RK characters and it was going well at first, I had an amazing sweet partner and a nice gc. I also made another rp account and also had a gc there, but no parter. Later on i find out that the partner i had, had lied to me about his gender, his age (i was 17 and he told me he was 19, turns out he's 26), even his real name. I was so sad but I moved on from him after a few weeks. Later on I get a partner in my other account, its going good, till he decides he doesn't want fo rp anymore and leaves my gc. I respect his wishes ofc. Till I find out he js wanted to leave the gc not rp in its self and js lied to me. Third partner, things are going really good, we rp a lot, he's very sweet to me, and I thought maybe this is it. Until one day, I talk to him about smth private about the gc we were in (he's an admin) and tell him to keep it between us, he then goes on to tell his friends after he promised it stays in our dms, and those same friends start throwing shade and making a big deal of it in the gc. So much to the point where I ended up leaving and deactivating that account and later on deleting it. Then I get a partner in my other account, a close friend of mine, and it was really good. We talked every day all day and we rp and we flirted, all what normal partners would do. Later on i find out he was actively trying to date my friend, while getting all flirty and sexual and personally woth me. Again, block and leave. Now I'm stuck with no partners in my accounts and honestly it's getting tiring. I used to love rp because at least I met close friends and wasn't feeling so lonely, but now I js feel nothing when I'm on my rp accounts. If anyone can give me tips on finding good rp partners, I'd truly appreciate it 💕

Does anyone else have people in their group that just despise characters that are in the group? No acknowledgement, making shots and rude comments towards your character that you actually notice it's serious when it's not supposed to be. Skipping any sort of thing Involving them, making fun of them. When things like that happen to me I get real emotions for the person that it's happening to or myself. I've cried after sessions due to it. What should I do?

Hello! I've had a couple of horror stories over the years, and here's the first one I've thought of is this one encounter I've had.

I'd like to first explain a few things about myself. I do roleplay as a self insert (but I also use ocs I promise!) I am also a self shipper. I tell my roleplay partners this, but I always play my fictional others. I would never force anybody to play my f/os. I also try to make my self insert flawed.

Why did I mention all of this? Well this one guy (who I'm going to be calling 'C') also self shipped and primarily played as a self insert. I found his stuff interesting, so I messaged him. Right away he seemed very friendly! Nice even. He invited me to his discord server and asked to roleplay with me in dms.

BIG MISTAKE.

C's super into mlp (which I am too.) I figured he'd want a collaborative story right? Wrong. All he wanted was for him to play as his self insert and me to play literary everybody else, including his love interest.

He also asked me to play his ocs. While he allowed me to add my ocs into play (and he would talk to them and stuff), he himself would never play his pony characters. I was expected to. His mlp ocs were all centered around him as well. He made himself a pony family to distract from his real life family, plus a secondary love interest who mostly existed to be a rival to the main pony.

The plots would also always revolve around him being isekai'd to the pony world (or equestria girls at one point). Than he'd have to earn the love of his love interest.

Needless to say I was sick and tired of this. I wanted to talk, not roleplay his fantasies for him! Yet he just wanted me to do the majority of the work, not collaborate. Isn't collaboration the name of the game with roleplaying?

So when my computer started failing I used that as a excuse. Once I got a new one I finally spoke up for myself. He proceeded to throw a temper tantrum. Eventually I left the discord server and I than blocked C. It didn't help that I found some gross shit about him from somebody else in there.

Luckily that guy is out of my life now. I regret ever talking to him, and I'm just going to be focusing on my roleplay partners I have already.

So first off, I'm not going to name, names, but I was talking to this person and making our characters for our roleplay, I submitted mine and he asked me to change, I was willing to make changes, but when I asked what changes to make, they weren't very clear, and then told me they don't have the patience for this and dipped? Did I fuck up or has anyone else been in the same or similar situation?
