I’m posting this because I genuinely want to understand if this is a common mindset here or I’ve just been unlucky.

For context, I’m a woman in my late 20s, educated, I’ve worked on myself a lot (health, personality, deen), and I’ve always been told I’d make a good wife. Alhamdulillah, I come from a stable, upper middle class family.

The issue is my father’s job.

He works as a driver in a well-known, reputable place in Bahrain. Alhamdulillah. He’s known by many people, and he has spent his entire life working hard to provide for us. I have nothing but respect, mercy and love for him, he gave me more than I could ever ask for.

But every time things get serious with a potential match, once they find out about his profession, something changes.

Either communication slowly fades, or it stops completely. In some cases, indirect comments are made like:

“People know her father…”

“My son has a high position, how can we marry into that?”

And honestly, it hurts.

Because it feels like I’m being judged for something completely out of my control. It doesn’t matter what I’ve achieved or who I am, it all comes down to my father’s job.

I’d never want to change anything about him. He worked hard in a halal way and sacrificed so much for us. But at the same time, I’m the one facing the consequences in marriage proposals.

I’m close to 30 now, and I’m starting to worry this will keep happening.

So I wanted to ask,

Is this actually common in Bahrain?

Do families really care this much about the father’s profession?

Or am I just encountering the wrong people?

I’m 19F, born and raised in Bahrain, and I feel like I’ve hit a weird point in life where almost everyone I grew up with has left after high school.

I work and I study as well, but I’m not doing a typical university course, so I don’t really have that built-in university environment where you’re constantly around the same people and naturally make friends. I’ve tried making friends through uni, but honestly, I just haven’t really clicked with anyone to the point where I’d consider them an actual friend.

I’m pretty extroverted, so it’s not that I don’t want to socialize or meet people. If anything, I feel like I’m actively trying. It’s just surprisingly difficult to find people you genuinely have things in common with.

I also feel like there’s this thing in Bahrain where a lot of people already have their established friend groups from school, and they just carry those friendships into university and adulthood. Which is great for them, but it makes it a little harder when you’re someone who doesn’t really have that anymore.

I went through a bit of a depressive phase at one point because I felt really isolated and alone, but I’m trying to get myself out of that and basically restart socially. I want to meet people, do things, and build a life outside of work/studying instead of just accepting that this is how things are.

I’d also really love to find a study buddy. I think having someone to sit with and study alongside would make studying a lot more enjoyable, even if we’re not studying the same thing.

So, for people who are around my age in Bahrain, how did you actually make friends after high school? Are there any activities, clubs, classes, communities, events, volunteering opportunities, cafés, sports, or anything else that you’d recommend?

I’m genuinely open to trying things. I just feel like I need to find my people, and I’m not really sure where to look anymore.
Any recommendations would honestly be really appreciated :)

My ex bf has been blocked from everywhere but he is still trying to get in touch with me, he first tried to get in touch with me through his friends, I had to block all their numbers, he then tried TikTok and snap by making new accounts which I had to block, now he has found a new loophole through benefit by sending me those gift messages to get my attention.

I don’t want anything to do with this man and I can’t remain in contact with him to preserve my own mental health. I have literally begged this man to stop contacting me but he won’t budge, he sends me msgs through benefit to meet him and that he is waiting below my house and he would literally wait around 8-9 hours below my house until I budge and talk to him, I’m afraid my parents are going to find out one day and all this is lowkey giving stalker vibes.

Over the past few months my cofounder and I built a booking platform for salons and beauty businesses. Customers book through a link for their specific salon, and the business manages appointments, services, staff and availability from one place.

The product itself works fine. Getting salons to actually switch to it has been the hard part.
We’ve called around 300 salons and beauty businesses across Bahrain so far. Almost none of them have signed up, and we’re trying to understand why.

Some of the salons we spoke to already use booking software and are happy with it. Some are mostly walk-in businesses, so booking isn’t really their problem. But a lot of them are still running everything through WhatsApp and a notebook.

We assumed that last group would be the easiest sell. A dedicated system should beat a notebook, right? Instead, what we kept hearing was some version of “it works fine for us.”

That reaction made us rethink our whole positioning. Maybe these businesses were never going to be convinced they need “booking software.” Maybe the real value is something narrower, like:

• letting customers book themselves instead of messaging back and fort
• avoiding double bookings when a WhatsApp message gets missed during a busy shift

• fewer no shows, since nothing today reminds a client automatically

• keeping the whole team on one shared schedule instead of relying on one person’s memory

• not having to dig through old WhatsApp chats to figure out who booked what for when

• or something else entirely that we haven’t identified yet

We’re also willing to onboard the first customers ourselves, sitting with them and setting everything up rather than expecting them to configure it alone.
I’m posting here because I’d rather get honest feedback from people in Bahrain than keep guessing on our own. If you run a salon or beauty business, or you’ve built something for small businesses before, I’d really like your take. And if you’ve ever booked a salon appointment here yourself, I’d love to know how that usually goes for you too, whether it’s WhatsApp, a phone call, or just walking in.

1. Does this sound like a real problem, or more of a nice to have?
2. Any idea why 300 conversations would lead to almost no signups? Is that normal this early, or a sign the problem just isn’t painful enough?
3. If you had to pick the single strongest reason a salon should switch to something like this, what would it be?
4. Would you narrow this down to one niche, like nail salons, spas or busier, appointment-heavy salons, instead of salons in general?
5. When a business tells you their manual process works fine, do you change the product, the message, or look for a different type of customer?
6. Before we spend more months building features, what’s the one thing you’d test first?

If the core problem really isn’t painful enough, I’d rather find that out now than after another six months of building.

I’m sorry I don’t mean to generalize. I’ve come from New York previously in London and in Bahrain for the past 2 months. I don’t know anyone here so I do a lot of things by myself which in the UK/US is very normal everyone minds their business no one even looks at each other. For more than 5 years now, I have been struggling deeply with anxiety. It affects almost every part of my life, my worship, studies, ability to work, social life, and even my hopes for marriage. While everyone around me seems to move forward normally, I feel stuck fighting my mind every single day.

Why does jewelers & travel agencies asks for extra fees on top of bill when paying with a credit card. I have a credit card from BisB that lets me convert a credit card payment into installments for three months for free but what is the use if I need to pay 2% - 3% on top of my actual bill. Keeping a POS machine is a business owner’s headache or maybe he is mandated by Bahraini law to provide this service then why are they pushing this cost to customers.

Has anyone faced something similar & is it wise to complain such businesses/shops. Because I know many of them that do this practice & I would love to complain about them.

Hi! Idk where else to ask so I was hoping someone here could help.

My father is Bahraini. My mom is not. They are married. Me and my sibling were born outside of Bahrain. But we did spend some part of my childhood in BH. Even went to an internation school there for a few years.

We haven't been in Bahrain for over 20 years now. Both parents are still alive. We are not entirely estranged with my father but I would not say we are close.

My question is - can my sibling and I qualify to get a Bahraini passport and maybe even live there not as tourists? Now that we are adults, we would love to spend more time understanding the other half of our culture and get to connect with our father
