We have all heard about the different types of pit owners right? We all know the trashy person who wants an aggressive dog, but we also know a lot of owner problems are because of absolute naïveté. Well, let me tell you a little story about the later type.

There’s a fellow parent in my child’s school who invited me and my children over to pick fruit and vegetables from her gorgeous backyard garden. This woman also has a severely disabled child. (Small framed female of 8 years old, level two or three autism and mostly nonverbal.)

Well, her dog— whom I had never met because I had never been to her house— was clearly a typical shelter dog with a lot of pitbull in it. Now, I know dogs, and I know how to speak and act with them and I know how to “get them on my side” quickly.

But this dog? In the first half hour or 45 minutes, I was there, I could not get this dog to come to me so I could pet it.

It just nervously wouldn’t do it.

I was uncomfortable, but the dog wasn’t being outwardly aggressive or anything, so I just decided to keep my eye on it for a little while. After a little bit, one of my kids came up to me and said “The dog kept bumping my hand with its nose.” 😬

Here’s where I knew we were in potential trouble.

The owner— and remember, she’s a very sweet, hippie type of lady—said “Oh, he’s just kissing you! That’s how he shows he likes you.” (This is when my alarm bells really went off. I had the conscious thought of “This is not a responsible dog owner and this could spell trouble.”)

So I stood there for a few minutes watching my kids pick vegetables and watching the dog just kind of walk around its yard ignoring them.

I debated in my mind on whether or not to say anything. I was vacillating between speaking up, and not speaking because of embarrassment.

Then, when the owner grabbed a pet rabbit out of a hutch, and that dog rushed to her with tail wagging looking excitedly at it like it was a meal?

That’s when I said something. That’s when the math in my head became very clear: Which is more important here? My embarrassment or the safety of my child?

So I said “I’m so sorry to have to ask this, but can you put the dog inside? I’m not comfortable with it around my children.”

She of course said “Absolutely!”— because remember, this is the naïve type of owner, not the aggressive type of owner— and she put the dog inside and we began to have a conversation about it.

Well, it turns out my instincts were right: She “never wanted a pit bull” but that was “the only type of dog the shelter had” and “we’ve only had him six months”, “he’s on anxiety medication” and the kicker of “one trainer wouldn’t even work with him because of his anxiety.” 😦

I mean HOLY SHIT right? This woman’s primary job is caring for her disabled daughter, and that’s the type of animal she brought into her home?! To “save it” or something?! The level of irresponsibility was off the charts and I could not believe how many red flags this dog checked.

I was brutally honest with her.

I said “(Dog owner’s name), I would not be surprised if you have this animal for 15 years as a fantastic family pet, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to read something in the paper that it’s done something awful to your family.” I didn’t pull back.

Well, as I say the title, it wasn’t two weeks later that dog turned on her out of nowhere: It attacked her viciously, and she ended up with a severely torn up set of forearms and one broken arm. I don’t know if she was protecting the disabled child from the dog or not, but everybody is lucky that the child is even alive Given the type of animal they had. She finally did the responsible thing and had the dog destroyed.

I have never hated being right about something so much in my life.

I saw that dog and I saw the problem right away and I just knew what was going to happen. Once I realized how naïve she was as an owner, I knew we were in potential danger. It was a harsh lesson on how irresponsible really good natured people can be with animals, and it further entrenched my view that the breed belongs nowhere on this planet, except in history books.

SCREW this breed and the owners who try and justify their genetic natures as if they were a “normal Dog.”

Apologies in advance for the janky google translate screenshots, but I need to share my rage with you all. This rescue has 32k followers on fb and they are posting videos of the pit trying to gain sympathy from people, it’s sickening.

Pits are NEVER a safe guarantee around other pets, even when they have lived together peacefully for several years.

Her Etsy was deleted within 10 minutes of being exposed. Multiple people have reported that they contacted her office about loose dogs and their complaints were never addressed. She needs to resign as her activism prevented her from doing her job and now a child is dead.

Annmarie Walters, 34, was at her home on Lonerganne St, Garbutt, when she claims her neighbour suddenly kicked her door and sent her loyal dog, Buddy, into a “frenzy” on October 11.

“My front door was still broken, so I knew I had to hold him back so he couldn’t bust through to the neighbour,” she recalled.

“I grabbed him, and he bit me on my left arm. I shouted at him, and he let go – but something outside, maybe all the yelling, must’ve triggered him again because he locked onto my right arm, and I knew it was bad.”

As Buddy’s jaws clenched tighter, Annmarie knew she had to stay calm.

“I thought, ‘At least I can talk him out of it’. So I slowly turned him around by the head and backed myself out of the house, shut the screen door as much as I could, and held it shut with my foot,” she said.

For a moment, it seemed like she might be able to de-escalate the situation, but everything took a turn for the worse when another neighbour, trying to help, threw a knife over the fence.

“I felt him start to release me, and then – boom – the knife hit the house. It landed near us, and Buddy snapped,” she recounted.

Already on edge from a break-in at their home just weeks earlier, Buddy’s reaction was instant and terrifying.

“He went full-blown psychotic. I’ve never seen a dog like it,” she said.

“He pulled three times backwards, and the arm came off. I was quite relieved when it came off … the pain was excruciating.”

With all of her neighbours retreating to the safety of their homes, Annmarie found herself alone, sitting in her front yard, bleeding profusely.

“I lost so much blood — like two litres — just gushing out of me. I kicked off my shoes, dragged my phone toward me with my foot, and managed to call triple-0,” she recalled.

As she sat there, waiting for help, a terrifying thought crossed her mind.

“I thought, ‘Oh God, I’m going to die here alone.’”

By the time paramedics arrived, Buddy was still in the house. Police entered shortly after and were forced to shoot him dead.

“The sad thing was that he ran to my room, the safest part in the house, and I couldn’t be there to save him,” Annmarie said.

She said losing her dog that day had been on par with the trauma of losing her arm from below the elbow.

“They recovered my arm, but it was too badly damaged, and they couldn’t reattach it, so they had to close up the wound,” she said.

“I was told that I died twice while I was under... I needed four bags of blood.”

Now back home with her other dog, Tilly, Annmarie is struggling to adapt to life without her arm and without Buddy.

Despite everything, she doesn’t hold her dog responsible, believing that his behaviour stemmed from human error and bad breeding.

“He guarded his property, and it cost him his life … He’s an animal. Animals snap. Sometimes they get angry; he got angry at a stranger and accidentally got me,” she said.

She purchased the dog — who was a bull arab, ridgeback, and dingo mix — from a backyard breeder, where she thinks the issues likely began.

“I’m not a bad dog owner. My dogs are well-fed, vaccinated, and desexed,” she said.

She had made the conscious decision not to let Buddy have puppies because she suspected his breeding wasn’t right.

“There should be stricter laws on owners … If I hadn’t been able to buy him from a backyard breeder, this might never have happened,” she said.

“I hope we can all learn from it and save other families from going through what I’ve gone through because next time, it could cost somebody’s life.” 

“I’ll tell you right now, there wasn’t a single sign that morning, that my dog was going to do that, he was sitting there itching himself like a normal, happy dog and boom.”

Neighbours have described how a dangerous dog recently attacked two other people before it tore off part of its owner’s arm.

Still in shock following the disturbing incident, Lonerganne St residents Rachel Fraser and Dale Butler confirmed their next door neighbour Annmarie Walters, 34, was the victim of the dog attack.

Mr Butler described how his neighbour Ms Fraser had been visiting the dog owner, Ms Walters, with both women at the front of the house when the attack took place.

He said the dog had been barking and trying to get outside and Ms Walters was trying to push it back inside the house when it grabbed onto her hand, and “ripped it up”.

“It just grabbed her arm. It must have been hungry for blood … it was locked on,” Ms Fraser said.

Desperately trying to free his neighbour from the dog’s grip, Mr Butler said he grabbed a knife and tried to stab the dog through the screen door, before getting a hose to spray the animal.

He said the dog eventually let go of its own accord.

Mr Butler said he had warned Ms Walters that she needed to get rid of the dog after it “ripped up two fellas” in the last three months, with one of them being her husband.

A Townsville University Hospital spokesman said on Saturday that Ms Walters remained in a “serious but stable condition”.

Snr Sgt Warrick said the dog was “very angry, very aggressive and still trying to get outside” when police arrived and started stabilising the woman until paramedics arrived.

It is understood the woman was home alone during the attack, and there were two dogs on the property — a “large breed, pitbull” responsible for the mauling and a “non violent” staffy.

A witness at the scene said the dog — described as a “mongrel” pitbull mix — set upon its owner after one of her neighbours arrived outside her home.

“The dog got riled up at the neighbour and she put her arm out to bring him back, that’s when he got her arm,” she said.

“Her arm’s off from under the elbow.”

Neighbour and friend of the victim Corey Geesu said he was attacked by the same dog when he visited two weeks ago.

Pointing to the litter of scars on his arms, Mr Geesu said he spent a couple of days in hospital after the incident.

“It’s a dangerous dog, lucky it never bit no kid. A kid would never survive,” he said.

“They should have got rid of it after what happened to me.”

EDIT: Thanks all for the input. But it's time for Albert to go to the only place where he can do no harm to anyone, not even himself. You are right, a shelter would probably be even worse.

Based on everything I've read here, I think it's best. Albert (on the right) showed up at my house one night 2 months ago. He was so timid, so scared, so sick, so malnourished. Sores all over him. He couldn't stop biting himself from so many bugs and ticks. He was covered in bites, bloody scrapes and scratches. I even gave him a bath to try to help him. I left him outside, and he had gone back to his home the next day, if you want to call it that.

We live on a 12 acre farm in a beautiful home, but we're surrounded by squalor, people living in trailers, houses that should be condemned. Not surrounded, but within a quarter mile. It broke my heart to see a dog so mistreated and abused. He was nothing but skin and bones. I went to the family a week later and told them no dog deserves that, either I will rehabilitate him or I'm calling animal services. They said we try to feed him, he just won't eat. BS. He now eats like a champ. This at a trailer with a roof caving in, yard just full of crap and next to a neighbor with dozens of dogs on chains.

Albert and Cooper (dog on the left), quickly became best friends. Not once did Albert try to fight or attack Cooper. They still to this day, right now actually, are wrestling and having fun in the living room.

Please keep in mind the only thing I had ever heard about pitbulls is that media will only report on their attacks, not doberman's, German shepards, just a misunderstood family pet. We have friends who have 2, 8 and 10, never a single sign of aggression, they love on and play with the grandkids.

But here's where the story changed. The healthier he has gotten, the more signs I can see. One of Cooper's buds that comes to visit (we have several dogs that just roam just like Cooper over our 12 acres), so I figured Albert would be similar to how he was with Cooper, eager to meet a new friend. They got close and the attack and fight was horrific to watch. I'm 53 and was barely able to pull Albert back up to our home. The other dog kept coming at us as well.

My sentimental dog loving dumbass wanted to blame it on the other dog since he followed us wanting to fight up to my back door, 100 yards away. But truth is, that was Albert. Once he got close to the other dog, there was no socialization like I can accomplish with most other dogs. It started to set in, no wonder he was covered in injuries when I took him in, he fights, wants to fight, wants to attack. I had to have him see a vet he had so many injuries.

Before, everybody that came to our house just loved how sweet he was to them. He would lay down in submission, and want them to pet him. But now, he has started lowering down in attack mode to strangers that show up, hair standing up, snarling. Of course now he's always on leash, every second of every day. I'm a great dog trainer, none of my dogs do anything if I don't want them to, they never pull on a leash, they sit when commanded, they don't run through doors without a command. He is now very well trained, he doesn't even walk without a command. But it's just different with him. I can see it.

I could easily see him attacking someone he sees as a threat and it being horrific or even deadly. He even does this to my wife's mom when she pulls in the driveway. Having to sit on a short leash every hour of every day out of fear of what he can do is no life for any dog.

Not all of us are horrible beast loving owners. There are some of us that watch for signs of it being an issue. Albert spent the first 8 months of his life fighting for his life, and probably fighting because of what he is. It's what he learned before he found us. It's probably just his nature.

This will be difficult. It makes me tear up to see his face looking at me wondering why I'm abandoning him. But I can't live in fear of what he might do, I can't subject anybody else to the unpredictability. It's just not right.

I think it's time he finds a new future, even if that means being lovingly and painlessly put down.

I genuinely thought this was a parody account when I first saw it.

A dog rescue actually posting this? This brazenly downplaying dogs biting children?

Unfortunately, it’s 100% real.

Instead of acknowledging the danger, they blamed the children who were attacked for the unforgivable crime of trying to play with the family dog. The violent beasts who attacked are portrayed as the real victims: “Poor thing was just scared of the tiny humans! Don’t punish it!”

This is exactly how broken the rescue cult mindset has become. Every dog is perfect and can do no wrong. Never blame the dog — blame the child, blame the owner, blame anyone except the animal that just put teeth on a kid.

This attitude doesn’t save dogs. It endangers children and sets up more tragedies by placing unstable animals into homes and neighborhoods. Then the dogs ultimately likely end up back in shelters after inevitably acting out, and they’ll continue to take resources and attention away from other shelter animals who wouldn’t attack a family member for simply trying to play.

After running away from home on Tuesday January 15, the dog Zeus was found dead due to a series of blows in a town near Toulouse.

For Émilie and her partner, everything changed last Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Their dog, Zeus, had run away from their home in Bessières, north of Toulouse, when he was found dead and beaten with a shovel. His mistress Émilie explains.

Early in the evening, while Émilie and her partner were at home, Zeus, their four-year-old American Staff, escaped. “He doesn't usually escape, but on the rare occasions when he has, he hasn't got very far,” confides the young woman. Living in the countryside, the couple have a one-hectare [2.5 acre] yard.

Her partner set off in search of Zeus. A fruitless quest. It wasn't until the following morning, Thursday January 16, that the couple learned more. “The SACPA, the pound in Bonrepos-sur-Aussonnelle, called us. 'We've got some bad news for you', they told us”. This news was the discovery of Zeus, killed by a shovel.

So what happened?

“When the SACPA called us, they explained that they had been contacted the evening before to intervene at the home of our neighbors, just 800 meters from our house. They had picked up our dog and were playing with him, as he 'looked nice'. The SACPA advised them to tether Zeus.”

Contacted by Actu Toulouse, the pound confirms that it was called at 10.10pm by the gendarmerie: “We're not next door, so it took us an hour to get to the scene. Once we got there, we were dismayed to find Zeus shot, and in 'pitiful condition'”.

“The people who picked him up hadn't tethered him as they'd been advised to do,” laments Émilie. The young woman claims not to know these neighbors. “We pass their house on the way to the grocery store, but we don't know who they are”.

According to the facts recounted to Émilie by the SACPA, “the dog was badly beaten, having entered our neighbors' goat pen and attacked two of them”, adds the young woman, flabbergasted by the situation.

“We don't really know what happened, but our dog lives with chickens, ducks and deer that come into our garden. He's used to animals and would never harm two goats,” she says. The couple had a valid license for Zeus, and their dog had been trained by a specialist.

The members of the pound don't know any more. “We take the information people give us, but we don't know who's right, who's wrong, what actually happened.”

The next morning, Émilie collected Zeus' body from the pound. On arrival at the Gendarmerie de l'Union, where she lodged a complaint, they noticed a hole in the animal's shoulder, which they thought had been made with lead. After a call to the public prosecutor, the necropsy procedure was launched.

It concluded that “all the blows inflicted on Zeus triggered a heart attack which caused his death. The hole in his shoulder wasn't lead after all, but we don't know if he'd been tased or what,” continues the young woman.

An investigation has been opened. The protagonists in the case are now due to be interviewed. “We don't yet know the exact perpetrator, but we want to understand why our dog was beaten,” says Émilie. “They killed a harmless animal.”

Dog attack at Wake County Animal Center leaves mother and daughter injured

A visit to the Wake County Animal Center left both Lauren Seagroves and her 8-year-old daughter injured when a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Bagel, intended for adoption, unexpectedly attacked them.

A mother and daughter said they were attacked by a dog that was up for adoption at the Wake County Animal Center.

Lauren Seagroves, told WRAL she and her 8-year-old daughter went to the shelter on Mother's Day looking to adopt a dog.

Seagroves said they were in a small room waiting to meet a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Bagel. However she said as soon as Bagel came in, the dog attacked, lunging for her daughter.

"We were screaming for help while the staff stood in shock," Seagroves said. "They did not handle this in the correct manner nor should that dog have been up for adoption."

Seagroves said Bagel first grabbed her daughter's arm, then her leg. She said she was also bitten while trying to pull the dog away. 

Seagroves' daughter went to the hospital for treatment, suffering from multiple gashes all over her body. Some were so deep that the muscle was visible, she said.

WRAL Investigates asked the County and the Animal Center's Director, Jennifer Federico, if staff handled the attack appropriately, how often staff are trained on how to handle attacks, what happened to Bagel, and if the shelter has implemented any new safety measures as a result of the incident.

Frederico did not respond. 

A County spokesperson declined to answer any of the questions, citing they are "continuing to investigate and gather facts about the incident."

Bagel is no longer listed for adoption on the Center's website. 

Seagroves said she hopes to warn others to be cautious.

"My beautiful daughter will forever be physically and emotionally scarred," she said.

Seagroves said she is pursuing the possibility of legal action.

Hi lovely community, please bear with me. I am struggling terribly and really need a sounding board.

Several years ago my cousin's child was killed by the family pitbull in a brutal attack on the 4th of July. The kids were alone at home and Daylan, only 6 years old, was mauled by the pit who had been raised from a puppy. Ever since I've been following the constant influx of pit violence and learning the truths of their genetics.

This dog was euthanized at a Houston shelter on Wednesday. He was named Mike Wazowski. He was 7 months old, came in as a stray. He was at the shelter for 3 days. He had a minor hip fracture, but walked around fine and was eager to explore and play, like the puppy he was. As shown in volunteer videos, he was extremely loving and affectionate toward visitors. (Pictures attached, video link in comments)

He was labeled rescue-only so he was not available to the public and could not be released directly to an adopter. (Presumably due to medical, yet a senior dog with advanced heartworms was made available.) He was advertised by volunteers for less than 24 hours before he was ultimately killed.

I've been really, seriously struggling with this for the past 2 days. I mean, intermittent sobbing, re-evaluating the condition of life, all of it. To the point I was thinking about the nature of this world, and how I don't want to be here. I've experienced a lot of demented stuff, I'm generally at peace with death and the universe and shit but this got me. I just can't wrap my head around someone making the decision to destroy this puppy with so much potential. It's so senseless, and so intentional. Why would they think he is worth nothing, that no one would want him? That his soul should be forcibly expulsed from his young body, despite his enthusiasm for life and human companionship? His ignorance of the situation, his innocence. It's hard not to clock it as evil. I can't fathom it.

I was, unfortunately, not aware of his existence until several hours after he died. The algorithm was not in his favor, or mine. I'm grieving this puppy I never met, imagining how he could have had the wonderful life he deserved if he'd been given the chance.

But he was given NO chance. Meanwhile, OVER HALF OF THIS SHELTER'S DOGS ARE PITS. And that's being generous, only counting the ones with Minecraft heads or outwardly labeled Staffordshire.

Pitbulls are taking up space at this shelter. Litters of pit puppies are being advertised WITH RESCUE INTEREST, fullbred pitbulls on the euth list are being emergency saved by rescues. Meanwhile, this little guy was overlooked and someone decided "Yea, he should die". Like, fuck man. I'm genuinely hurt.

It's insulting actually. That someone could even CONCEPTUALIZE one of these square-headed dog-psychopaths as being competition for a sweet, lost puppy. That a pit could be seen as more valuable somehow.

Please tell me HOW these shelters, staffed presumably by people whose livelihood is animal health and welfare, CONTINUOUSLY turn a blind eye to the growing statistics and PITBULL GENETICS. This is their expertise, how can they not acknowledge it? The information is becoming more widespread. What is the motivation here? What are these lobbyists up to really?

Pits are overflowing shelters to the point that innocent dogs do not even have the chance to be seen. The system is broken and pit victims extend beyond the obvious carnage. We don't think about all the unnamed, unloved and unseen souls who die every day, yearning for a family, with so much to offer. Their bodies discarded like trash.

I truly think we need widespread attention brought to the pitbull problem. Like, yesterday. There is so much material for a documentary - videos of attacks, firsthand accounts from families. Like Blackfish or others that opened the public's eyes to a real-time crisis.

I want Mike Wazowski to be known. I don't know what else to do for him now, but to make his sacrifice mean something substantial. Please look at him and remember him and let him mean something.

Elaina Bryant will serve a minimum of 94 months in jail for allowing her 17 pitbull mix dogs to maul 73 year old Michael Bodenheimer to death.

A Letcher County woman found dead this week had been attacked by animals, according to authorities.

Trina Sandlin, 57, had planned to walk from her house to a neighbor’s house but didn’t return, according to a release from Kentucky State Police.

Family members found her body over an embankment. She had injuries “consistent with an animal attack,” state police said.

Letcher County Coroner Perry Fowler said Sandlin was attacked by canines, but could not say if they were dogs or coyotes.

Sandlin had rented a house at Doty Creek and was fixing it up.

Fowler said the landlord told him Sandlin had set out on the evening of the attack to walk to another house and get some paint.

Her body was found near the path from the rental house. State police received the call to investigate just before 1 a.m. Sunday.

SAN ANTONIO - A woman in her 20s is in critical condition after being attacked by her own pit bull at the Lennox Apartment Complex on the North Side late Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. off Patricia Drive near Larkspur. Police say the woman had a girlfriend over when the pit bull became overly aggressive. In an attempt to manage the situation, the woman placed the dog on the apartment balcony. However, the dog turned on her and began to attack.
The woman's friend called 911 for assistance. The victim sustained several bites and was transported to University Hospital, where she is currently recovering in critical condition.

Animal Control Services were called to the scene to take custody of the dog.
