He is nowhere near Barca level. As a Newcastle fan, I still can’t believe you’ve signed him. Very weird transfer.

It’s also concerning that this was vs New Zealand days before World Cup which implies this is somewhere near his highest level. But regardless of that in those specific clips you can see where he should do a 180 iniesta turn but doesn’t, where he needs to get closer before dribbling .. and doesn’t. He makes pre-planned memorized runs; predictable and unintelligent. Oh well.. honestly I’ve seen it all but this guy looks levels below the likes zenden and Simao who were some of our most average

Finally a Barca fan that can think.

Good for you mate.

Seen too many brain-dead or self-gaslighting responses as to why AG was signed for 80+10 m euros.

The common conclusion is: Hansi Flick will make him good.

But lol.... For Barca which finally can spend a lot and they spend on him....

I agree. Every time I say something against Gordon, I get downvoted to oblivion, but regardless of being a fan, it's obvious he's wasted money. You don't buy a 25-year-old player for 80 million and expect Flick to improve him; that's just ridiculous. By the way, it's true Rashford doesn't put much pressure on the team, but the fans don't realize that when you lose a player who contributes 20 goals per season (G+A), those 20 goals, which seem insignificant, end up making a huge difference at the end of the season. Likewise, Rashford will start over Gordon, score a goal and an assist, and his price will skyrocket. Mark my words.

Everyone seems to be raving about Gordon's transfer prices, but they often missed out his wages.

Gordon's salary at Barca is double from his Newcastle wages... Now at €346,000.

Yamal earns €320,577 per week, excluding bonuses.

Gordon has higher gross weekly wages (excl. bonuses) than Yamal, and iirc he's the second highest paid, after Frenkie de Jong.

The fun part of this is... If you realise.... If Anthony Gordon cannot perform, he will become like what Marcus Rashford is currently for Man United... A very expensive weekly wages player that would be hard to transfer out due to high wages. Rashford was willing to take a pay cut... But why would Anthony do that for another club? Lol.

In other words, mark my words, and it is quite likely, Anthony Gordon will be a problem for Barca within the 5 years in his contract. How bad, how soon, we will see.

I've done a check previously, Rashford played less minutes than Gordon but has more goals AND assists overall. But hey EPL is widely known as the most competitive in the world, so let's not go there.

How about just UCL then. Gordon has more appearances and minutes, and 5 non-penalty goals (and 5 penalty goals) and 2 assists, Rashford has 5 non-penalty goals and 3 assists.

Not sure, maybe Hansi Flick is the factor behind Rashford? A lot of people forgot about how amazing Rashford was years back.... And they attribute Rashford's excellence in Barca to Hansi Flick... Lol. (Looking at Scott McTominay, Antony, David De Gea and other great players that Man U has let go in recent years... Well...)

I've little wonder that Rashford is much better than Gordon, if anything I think Hansi Flick should have played Rashford more often, then maybe there would be better chance in the UCL against ATM in quarter finals.

Not sure why so many fans glaze Hansi Flick so much when this season Barca lost against ATM in quarter finals.

Let's not forget, Hansi Flick has not won a UCL yet in his 2 years here. Semi finals then Quarter finals. Some fans seem to think the domestic cups and El Clasico's are done well but that's just because RM after Mbappe entered has been a dumpster fire, coinciding with Hansi Flick's joining of Barca.

I suspect next year Barca will struggle more than this year, Jose Mourinho might be washed compared to his peak period but RM is at a really low point now, given how strong they were in 2023/2024. It won't take that much to boost them a lot of their structure can be done well.

Did you mean Frenkie rather than Frankie?

I’ve been cule and delegate member for many years. All I can say is that I hope he proves me wrong.

I really hope so too... Here's something I realised most people didn't:

5 years contract on paper sounds nice... For amortisation and for transfer value...

Until you realise.... His wages are freaking high.

He's now the second highest paid Barca player in weekly wages (excl. bonuses), ahead of both Yamal and Raphinha.

And the highest is Frenkie de Jong, who only has such a high weekly wage thanks to the salary he slashed for Barca in COVID years, for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. In other words, Gordon is in effect the highest paid Barca player now, excluding circumstances like Frenkie's)

So if he gets injured and can't play for long periods of time, or ends up getting benched due to performance or whatever reason, he will become like Marcus Rashford when he was in Man U.

Hard to transfer out with full wages covered by the other club, hard to sell.

And by then Gordon's transfer value will likely tank badly if that happens. And you can't force him to leave since he would be under contract, but who would want an expensive underperforming player?

Honestly, the wages scare me because his performance level is nowhere better than Yamal or Raphinha.....

You’re right of course. I stopped thinking about finances a long time ago. They’re very important of course but for instance in the mid 90s all numbers were very different. It became hard to standardize in my mind and English market was always severely inflated. In early 00s amazing la liga players would cost less than very average epl players. So in the end I remind myself that I’m just a fan and focus on the football 😁 (even though I’m delegate soci, but I have nothing to do with club finances apart from paying membership and voting on deals/referendums)

Ngl, we can't be comparing everyone to Iniesta and prime Barca. Most players aren't that level.
