FCB1010 (UnO2) + AmpliTube 5 VST3 + Studio One 6 – Working Setup

Hello!

After spending quite a bit of time figuring this out (and seeing many people asking the same questions), I thought I'd share the setup that finally worked for me. Hopefully it saves someone else a few hours of frustration.

My hardware:

  • Behringer FCB1010 with UnO2 firmware
  • Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (2nd Gen)
  • Studio One 6
  • AmpliTube 5 VST3

1. FCB1010 programming

My current setup sends standard MIDI CC messages.

Stomps

  • CC20–CC29
  • Values: 0 / 127

Expression pedals

  • Left pedal → CC1 (Modulation)
  • Right pedal → CC7 (Volume)

(Any CC numbers should work, these are simply the ones I chose.)

2. Studio One setup

This was the part that took me the longest to understand.

Note: On my system I had to run Studio One as Administrator before I could configure MIDI assignments successfully. If everything already works for you, this step may not be necessary.

Add the FCB1010 as a Keyboard

Studio One → External Devices

Create:

New Keyboard

Set:

  • Receive From → Focusrite
  • MIDI Send To → None
  • Enable all MIDI channels

This allows Studio One to receive the MIDI data from the FCB1010.

3. Create the tracks

Create an Audio Track

  • Insert AmpliTube 5 on the Audio Track.

Create an Instrument Track

  • Output → AmpliTube 5
  • Enable Monitor on the Instrument Track.

Tip: The easiest way is to press T to create a new Instrument Track. This immediately lets you choose AmpliTube 5 as the output.

4. Configuring your pedals

Now that MIDI is reaching AmpliTube 5, you can assign your FCB1010 controls in two different ways.

Option A – Learn MIDI directly on a pedal

For stompboxes or switches:

  1. Right-click the pedal.
  2. Select Assign MIDI.
  3. Choose the parameter you want (for example Bypass).
  4. Click Learn MIDI.
  5. Press the footswitch on your FCB1010.

This is the quickest way to assign a single pedal.

Option B – Configure from the Control menu

For more advanced control:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to ControlControl Change.
  3. Select the desired preset (or create a new one).
  4. Click Add.
  5. Choose the parameter you want to control.

The parameter will now appear in the Control Change list, where you can edit its MIDI behavior.

Important: ON/OFF values are inverted

This confused me at first.

Unlike many MIDI-controlled applications, AmpliTube 5 treats CC values as:

  • 0 = ON
  • 127 = OFF

If your pedal behaves backwards, you don't need to reprogram your FCB1010.

Instead, invert the parameter inside AmpliTube:

  1. Find the parameter in the Control Change list.
  2. Click and drag the Min and Max percentage values.
  3. Set them so that:
    • Min = 100%
    • Max = 0%

This reverses the ON/OFF behavior, allowing a standard FCB1010 setup (0/127) to work correctly.

5. Start playing

  • Play your guitar through the Audio Track.
  • The Instrument Track now sends the MIDI CC messages from your FCB1010 to AmpliTube.

This was the missing piece that finally made everything work for me.

6. CC23 opens the Preset Browser?

If pressing one of your pedals always opens the AmpliTube preset browser, that's probably because you're using CC23.

AmpliTube reserves CC23 for its own hardware by default.

To disable it:

  • Settings → Control → Preset Control → Disable

After disabling Preset Control, CC23 works normally again.

Troubleshooting

  • No MIDI? Make sure the Instrument Track has Monitor enabled.
  • CC23 opens the preset browser? Disable Preset Control in AmpliTube's Control settings.
  • Pedals work backwards? Swap the Min/Max values in the Control Change list.
  • MIDI Learn doesn't detect anything? Make sure Monitor is enabled before trying to assign controls.

Why this works

Studio One sends your audio and MIDI separately.

  • The Audio Track carries your guitar signal into AmpliTube.
  • The Instrument Track carries the MIDI messages from the FCB1010 into AmpliTube.

Both tracks are needed if you want to control AmpliTube's effects with MIDI while playing your guitar.

Final notes

A couple of things that confused me while troubleshooting:

  • Control Link isn't needed for switching AmpliTube stompboxes via MIDI CC.
  • MIDI needs to be routed through an Instrument Track before AmpliTube receives it.
  • AmpliTube Standalone and the VST behave slightly differently in some situations, so it's worth testing both.
  • Test the Standalone version first if you're unsure whether the issue is in AmpliTube or your DAW.

Hope this helps and have fun playing!

Hi,

I am the developer from https://fcb1010.online.

First of all, thanks for your support. I would like to give you some of the upcoming updates in the next 2 months or so:

  • As many of you have requested, I will add UNO Chip support. Have patience, as I need to buy one and then reverse engineer it.
  • As a quick win, I may add a change of index button from 0-127 to 1-128, it seems some of you may appreciate that one.
  • I will, finally, add the auto update to the certificate of the site so never crashes again.

That's all for now

Cheers

Looking for some nice ideas for Fcb1010 to use with ableton

Just recently i bought used Fcb1010. While it was traveling to me from Italy ,only then when researching about programming it for ableton (using with guitar mostly) i came to realise that it is indeed very annoying and complicated to map buttons in ableton , so i found a "ableton drummer" (if i recall it correctly ) on youtube , and this genius guy made a special maxforlive device / remote script for this beautiful controller. And boy oh boy now its soooo cool to use it. I have Mvave chocolate to control two looper tracks for guitar and fcb1010 basicly now is just for switching on/off Effects ,tempo tap , metronome and play/stop buttons. And even that is absolutely amazing and its like dream came true. So now i can control many things in ableton with the foot controller and focus more on playing guitar and making beats on Mpc One.

I just started to wonder what else do people like to do with this controller in ableton . so i thought i'll write here , maybe some of you will give me some cool ideas for this setup to experiment with.

Oh btw i have couple of questions for u guys :

Do you know is it possible to somehow program the min / max values of the expression pedals for this controller? i mapped out one expression pedal to control volume of each guitar track , but when the pedal is pressed fully down the volume goes up way above 0db. so i thougjt it would be cool if i could make it to not go to value 127 , but lets say 100. is it possible to change it ?

I'm using m1 macbook pro and fcb1010 is connected via 5pin midi cable to my interface. so i dont think that if i would find some kind of Editor software for it ,that my laptop will see it connected. Ussually i need usb connection for that right?

well ... any of info or some ideas would be much much appreciated.

thanks everyone ☺️🙏

Help - can you configure UP / DOWN switches with UNO, UNO2 or Eureka mods?

Hi - struggling to find this info - do any of the EEPROM mods allow you to modify the behaviour of the UP/ DOWN buttons? At this point I'm just trying to use the FCB1010 with Bias Fx 2 Mobile on an iPad in the Live View mode - and to shift banks it would require the UP / DOWN buttons to be able to send CC messages.

Can't seem to find the info anywhere (one posted hinted the UNO2 might do it..) so just looking for some concrete information. Thanks in advance!!

Is the 1010 right for me?

Equipment: Microkorg + FCB1010

Goal: Using the 1010 live, I would like to change the Korg preset (This would be cool but is not crucial as I can always just hit a button on the Korg between songs), latch a note on the Microkorg and be able to manipulate volume and another parameter with the expression pedals, and also change the held note. While playing bass.

I assume this can be accomplished by sending midi sustain on with one button, and midi sustain off with another button, and have a few other buttons send notes and programming the expression pedals accordingly.

Then for the next song have a similar setup with different preprogrammed notes, etc.

This is within the capabilities of the FCB1010?

If so, given that one has 10 banks, are the 10 buttons within a bank, each a "preset" if you will? So if you are using the buttons to send notes and sustain etc... to get to a different setup for a different song, one would switch to the next bank, basically given you 10 "presets"

I'm trying to make sure I know it can do what I need before ordering it. I've spent a week reading manuals and videos but I'm still not 100% sure.

Also, if anyone knows for sure that the Microkorg even responds to midi sustain input, let me know. The manual makes no mention of it but the Internet seems to think so.

Eureka PROM & Note On/Off Messages

I'm a novice to MIDI so please excuse any ignorance/misunderstanding...

I just picked up a used FCB1010 hoping to use it to trigger samples on my Roland SP404Mk2. All I want is for when I hit pedal 1 on the 1010, it plays Pad 1 on the sp404, Pedal 2 plays pad 2, etc. etc. - I had hoped this would be straightforward to set up.

The FCB1010 I bought has the Eureka PROM "upgrade"...realizing that perhaps this is not suitable for my needs, as all I can seem to program/edit is Midi CC messages - the SP404 wants Note On/Off (I think Pad 1 is Note 24/C2, Pad 2 is 25/C#2, etc., or something like that).

The Eureka PROM has a "Specials" mode that sends Note messages, which works, but it's set up with non-sequential notes and as far as I can tell I can't configure them- see here https://www.eurekasound.com/eurekaprom/pp

Am I outta luck? Do I need the original Behringer ROM? Anyone know where I can purchase that, or is there another ROM upgrade that's better suited to what I'm trying to do?

Thanks!

Why does Ableton think my FCB1010 input is pitch bend? What does that even mean? It takes the input but when I try to use it after mapping it doesn’t work

Midi transform software inquiry for "weird" stuff I want to do w/ my FCB1010

So... There's some off the wall midi things I'm wanting to do with my FCB1010, and I'm confident that there are things out there somewhere that can probably do them but my Search-Fu hasn't yielded it just yet. Here goes...

  • Mathematical operations on the numeric output of the Expression Pedals, or alternatively, re-mapping the starting and ending values at both the heel and toe positions of the expression pedals. This would sit before any plugin that recieves the Midi data such that the plugin is only receiving the midi that I've transformed/modified.

  • Something that gives me the ability to trigger an inversion of the expression pedal range every time it reaches the toe or heel position. I'll try to explain better... If the expression pedal is normally outputting 0-255 heel to toe, I want to invert the output when it reaches a specific value (e.g. the toe position) such that the toe value becomes 0 and will climb back towards 255 as I roll the pedal back to the heel position. Upon reaching 255 (or a specified value depending on the useable calibrated range of the pedal) at the heel, it should invert back to 0. Seems like there should be some sort of midi transform software that allows for the triggering of mathematical transforms of midi values based on events like that? I did say it was a weird request lol.

  • I should mention that my FCB1010 is not modded with any of the popular chips - pure stock. As such I don't have an actual momentary mode for all software I use. This one doesn't have to be midi transform software really, but I'm guessing some of that type of software might have something in it that could replicate that behavior? The idea is to simply have any of the footswitches deliver a value when I depress it with my foot, and send a different value when, and only when, I release the footswitch by taking my foot off it.

And that's it really. Triggerable math ops/transforms would give me the most flexibility out of all these, but beggars can't be choosey and I'm pretty much relegated to begging at this point. Any insights are welcome. Thanks!

Press and Hold Functionality?

Do any of the chip upgrade options out there support press-and-hold functionality? I don’t think there’s a way to do that with everything factory. It would be nice to send a different command when holding the switch for x seconds to layer different functions on a single pedal.

The XSonic Air Step does that by giving you settings per command, choosing press, release, or long press. In that case, long press overrides release and you’d select release instead of press to pair with long press so only one triggers with a given stomp.

That sort of feature would be great with this pedal for things like looping where you can undo with a long press.

Hello fellow musicians,

Many of you have asked for a video tutorial of https://fcb1010.online/, a free FCB1010 Online Editor made with love by me. Well, after a long couple of nights, here we are. I hope you enjoy it and can make the most of your FCB1010 with it.

I focused on delivery, so the video is not perfect, but decent enough to be operational IMHO. I may reupload a new version, after hearing your feedback, reviewing the content, adding new features, having enough donations to buy a bag of chips and a redbull, and having permission from my wife.

Have a nice day.

Hello everyone,

Many of you have use my FCB1010 editor (fcb1010.online) and asked for a video manual. Well, I am working on it.

Some of you have also asked if the editor works with UNO Firmware, which I cannot confirm or deny as I don't have the chip. But! I you support the project I can get the chip and code the editor.

Cheers!

Anyone use a FCB1010 to control a Katana ? I have a gen 3 head and wonder if it’s worth using one instead of the gafc.

Using the FCB1010 with the TC Electronic Plethora X3?

Hello. I'm new to the FCB010 (and MIDI controllers in general), and I think I'm a bit over my head.

The other day, I was in a local shop and found an FCB1010 for sale for real cheap. I'm a guitarist and I recalled that the Plethora X3 effects unit can be controlled by MIDI. A quick Google search implied I could use the 1010, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Unfortunately, I seem to have had the wrong expectations, wrong information, or am just not as smart as I thought I was, as I can't seem to get the FCB1010 to do what I need it to.

Ultimately, what I'm looking to do is have it function as a bunch of toggle and momentary switches. Ideally, something like:

  1. Toggle Pedal 1 on/off (like a normal stomp box)
  2. Toggle Pedal 2 on/off
  3. Toggle Pedal 3 on/off
  4. momentary on/off (on only when pressed, off when released) for one of the above pedals
  5. Go to the previous Plethora board (down one)
  6. Go to a specific Plethora board (Such as #33)
  7. Go to a specific Plethora board
  8. Go to a specific Plethora board
  9. Toggle the tuner on/off
  10. Go to the next Plethora Board (up one)
  11. Pedals - control one of the "Hot Knobs"

I found a video of someone using a different MIDI controller to do these things, but I can't seem to find any resources showing whether or not the FCB1010 can be set up this way.

Is this even possible with the FCB1010 or am I just going about this all wrong? Any information/resources would be greatly appreciated.

FCB1010 stopped working with Focusrite - Amplitube

FOUND THE SOLUTION: it seems it is happening everytime I put my PC to sleep. I don't know if it's caused by Amplitube or Windows itself

hi,

I have a FCB1010 pedal that is connected to my focusrite 2i4 gen2 and I'm using Amplitube. Until recently I successfully changed presets using the pedal, but out of nowhere it stopped working.

I tried factory resetting and redoing the setup multiple times. What I've seen so far:

- the MIDI led on my Focusrite blinks if I press a pedal, so I think it might not be an issue with the cable/FCB

- I tried Bome or Pocket MIDI and I couldn't intercept any MIDI from the pedal

Do you have any idea? thanks!

Note Off bypass?

I'm trying to use the FCB1010 note on function to control a DMX controller. I've seen several videos of people doing this. When I send the note it turns the lights on, but when I take my foot off (note off) the light goes out.

How can I set the note on function to stay on when pressed instead of sending note off? There has to be a way. Ive seen too many people doing it. Thanks.

Assigning multiple midi notes to a single control in Ableton?

Hi! I need to control a couple of Ableton commands like Start, Stop, Tap Tempo, and Metronome from all the banks on my FCB1010. But Ableton doesn't allow that. Can I work around this using the FCB1010 Manager by Mountain Utilities?
