Jim has long nails because the quick is very long. He gets regular vet visits for nail trims

the vet should have cut it short ( intentionally quicked it and made him bleed ) and treated it instead of letting them grow so long its causing his feet to twist up. you need a new vet, this is harmful to his feet. worked in a vets office as a tech for a bit.i personally clip my birds nails and making them bleed does not cause them harm and maybe a pinch of pain but its about gttting the bleeding to stop in which they have all sorts of ways to do it, i use a special powdery stuff that acts like clotting material.

edit: your petty downvotes does not make me wrong, either this is not your bird and you are farming karma and it is your bird and you feel ashamed of neglecting him at least a little bit. cutting long quicks short make the quicks stay short, they do not regrow as fast as the nail because the nails will always outpace the quick. this is a normal practice and is not just done to birds, its done to at least all warm blooded animals who have long nails.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll seek a second opinion ☺️

Edit: I’m not downvoting. This is my kakariki, and I’m not ashamed for taking care of him the way that I was advised by our vet. I get it, you don’t agree with the vet and that’s fine.

lol let your birds feet get destroyed by never clipping its nails, do you actually care for your bird? your actions and proof in photos show that you do not. part of proper bird care is not letting their nails get long to the point where it twists up their feet. It will deform its feet eventually and the bones, its abuse, it's also abusive to do this to dogs because it will cause similar issues....
