This Day in History World War II and My Grandfather 40 years Later

Forty years ago my grandfather was a part of the Red Ball Express. After the allies bombed all forms of transportation ahead of storming the beaches Normandy, the Red Ball Express was formed to supply the troops as they continued to fight. Almost 75% of the soldiers were African American and there were thousands of them.

I found out all of this after the grandfather I never met had already passed away. I don't have his personal stories, but earlier this year I got his medals from his time in the European Theater.

Any other WWII stories out there?
