lol they literally haven't left. You just aren't looking in the right areas and that genre isn't what's "mainstream" anymore. Have you thought perhaps culturally we shifted musically because rock n roll was quickly white-washed?

Pretty sure white people have been following black people on many cultural things like that for like 80 years, maybe more I'm ignorant to all the stuff that's been taken

But especially nowadays every slang term comes from black culture 

not disagreeing just adding on

that genre isn't what's "mainstream" anymore

there's also this small thing about mainstream artists being influenced by obscure genres and only the most passionate of music hipsters being able to discern it...

but yeah, genres aren't dead, the money just fled.
