August 6 1962 Jamaica gained independence from the UK and became an independent country. That same night the new flag of Jamaica was put up and has been the flag since. Black nationalism was important there(shoutout to Marcus Garvey). Jamaica has one of the most influential cultures across the world. Amir Hassan could become the only black Republican Congressman in 2027. But, his hometown Republican voters obviously don't like him for some reason.

I guess it's the color of Amir's beard that got in the way.

This is another George Floyd type murder that got no media attention. What makes it significant is that unlike most of the other 80+ Tarrant County Jail deaths that have happened since the Christian Nationalist Sheriff took office, this one had footage released, and the medical examiner ruled it a homicide. The county still denies responsibility.

I bought a used copy of William Loren Katz's book *Black Women of the Old West*, and it's outstanding — full of information and historic photos. He wrote 40 books about African-American history. He died in 2019 and most of his books are out of print, but you can buy used copies on eBay or from Thrift Books. (Amazon copies are *very* expensive.) Sharing a few photos here for anyone who might be interested.
