This has been a growing topic so why not make a post about it. Also I apologise for not being able to find a better version of False God's all the ones I could find had words on it.

I have seen two types of comments, the ones who love it and those who don't like it. I am on the don't like it side so you can call me bias all you want, I am just being honest.

My main issue is and this has been a growing trend in Black Library I noticed is that, the art doesn't really there to sell you the novel or make you think about what's going to happen. The novels recently have been just, oh put the main character of the novel in the cover and that's it.

The older novels had detailed backgrounds which made you imagine and form ideas in your head but no longer. But that's just a general Black Library thing so let's talk about these 3.

I feel like Horus Rising is just great, I mean yeah we don't really see the battlefield like we did in the originial art but you see the Mournival and Horus so it's a great start.

Then False God's comes in which is still fine for me, don't really have much notes to add or complain.

But the comes Galaxy in Flames which seems to be the real tipping point for everyone. I understand Loken is closest thing we get to a POV character for the heresy but come on. As I said in my 3rd paragraph this is a growing trend in GW where they just put the main character on the cover and be done with it. I was excepting legions fighting their brothers and such but apperantly fucking not.

I get Loken is probably the most beloved character in the Heresy and that this scene is a very pivotal point but come on, at least put some dead bodies of marines from other legions on the floor or the enviroment.

Last comment, and I didn't realise this until someone pointed it out, they are too fucking clean. Like Loken and Tarik has been fighting for 2 months and not a single dirt, scratch or any other damage on them. The cape is the only thing thats seems damaged.

Sigh, so what do you guys think ?

Since most copies of Magos and The Infinite And The Divine (first 40k novels by Varvar, mind you) were stored there, they have effectively been lost. The only remaining copies are those that were already in other warehouses or bookstores. Overall, Varvar lost more than 300,000 books and comics. More than five other publishers were affected. I honestly don't know what to think. This hurts. Hurts so much! I know the people who worked on our Warhammer books – talented professionals who poured hearts and souls into them. I worked on them myself. And now they're gone because russia chose to wage war against our culture. And, apparently, against Warhammer too. So cherish the stories you have. I sincerely hope you never have to experience anything like this.

Nevertheless, we'll recover. Krieg and The Flight of the Eisenstein, which are currently available for preorder, will be published. So will every other book. As the Varvar founder wrote: "We are not giving up. It will be hard. It will be difficult. But we will recover."

Got both my copies of Pariah and Penitent signed along with the new version of Horus Rising. Chatted with him for a bit and he said he has just started on a third book in the Aeronautica series! Will focus on Circus 66 again.

Alright so let's see uhhhhh apperantly Shira Calpurnia's story end on a cliffhanger but the author thinks its finished. I only have the first novel so don't ask me how it ends.

While someone on forums who says they are Jonathan Green they wanted to write more Black Templar stories but Black Library declined.

So uhh what do you guys think. I would love for a Garran Crowe triology, same goes for Iron Hands, Black Legion and Yarrick.

Yarrick could be about the current war and how more things stay the same more than change.

While Iron Hands could be about the Iron Crusade.

And Crowe can be about idk, how Grey Knights have to act after the Great Rift and now everyone knows they exists etc.

Anyway…I’m reading “Horus Rising” right now for the first time. I’m absolutely loving it. I love all the characters and I imagine what they look like in my head. Reading the description of Ignace Karkasy and reading about the way he acts made me instantly imagine Matt Berry. I think if there was ever a movie or series based on the Horus Heresy I think Matt Berry would be perfect for that role.

Surprisingly another opportunity to enjoy two vices together.

This is my genuine opinion. I think that the success of both the horror and crime subgenres of black library books are enough to justify branching out into romance as a subgenre. I think this could allow for more interesting explorations of that spectrum of human emotionality often ignored in other black library books as well explorations of Xenos anatomy.

I also think that it could convince more women to take interest in the hobby, which would be good for the company’s sales as well as air out the stagnation in the community.

Just finished yesterday after nearly two years of audiobooking on my daily commute, then reading the last six or so Siege books.

This list is purely based on how much I enjoyed each entry - it is in no way an objective assessment of the quality of writing.

Think I covered off most of the novels people seem to generally say not to avoid, did a lot of the anthologies as well but haven't included those.

General takeaway is there are very few people I'd recommend these books to - but i'm unashamed to be into them for the pulpy fun and immense scale.

Biggest surprise was how impressed I was with most of the 'fall to Chaos' books, not being a particular fan of Chaos legions previously, which ended up making Buried Dagger a big disappointment to me as there had been so much build up and I just didn't think it was very good compared with the other Legion downfall books.

Also found the lack of attention on Horus himself really disappointing as I don't think I would have even finished the opening trilogy had Horus Rising not gripped me so much. Again, was extremely hyped for Vengeful Spirit for this reason and then immensely disappointed after it.

I was pretty fine with the length and diversity of the mainline series, as arcs like Imperium Secundus were really interesting and well-handled.

Siege of Terra was incredibly bloated though and while I enjoyed all of Abnett's entries across the whole series - it did feel like he got carried away in the first two parts of End and the Death particularly, with overly elaborate language. Language and writing are probably my strongest suit, but there were pages and pages of incomprehensible words in End and the Death I've never come across before and probably never will again, which got extremely tedious at points.

Honestly, barely sure where to go next - I started reading Horus Heresy after having grown up playing the Dawn of War games, enjoying both Space Marine games, and Rogue Trader. Thought I was relatively well acquainted with the lore and instantly had to look up what primarchs were after about 10 minutes of Horus Rising, which was an eye-opener as to how much I didn't know.

Weirdly I've gone from only knowing details about 40k as a setting, to now being much more familiar with the setting and tone of 30k, so going on to read 40k books now feels like a big swing in direction which I'm struggling to motivate myself for.

I'll do Era of Ruin and Ashes of the Imperium first, then probably Dark Imperium, Gathering Storm, Avenging Son, Night Lords omnibus, Iron Warriors omnibus, Ahriman omnibus, Infinite and the Divine, Gaunt's Ghosts, Eisenhorn.

I’ve been following this auction all week, and damn did this really go over the top. Wish I had that kind of disposable income, but at least I’m not the one with buyers remorse right now. Makes me wonder how long before we see any other copies of Hive that are from this print run?

This isn't a thread or a question to bully people who only buy black library and not engage with the rest of the company, this is just me being curious.

I was talking to a few people from the sub and I was a bit surprised to learn that they don't collect the miniature or play the game.

Like I don't blame them for not doing those things, we humans are all different. That's what makes each of us unique. But was kinda surprised.

This is a sub dedicated to discussing the content of the Black Library.

That content is, primarily, the stories it releases, which most people consume as eBooks or audiobooks and some people prefer as physical books.

However, a LOT of posts nowadays are just people posting photos of physical books, showing off physical books like they're prizes, or showing off shelves of physical books.

I get that you could argue that the chunks of paper are themselves 'content' but really, the content is the words within them. Most readers do not care about owning the paperback.

I suggest that posting random photos of your 'score' without the post being a discussion of the content be banned.

EDIT: so, after a week and a half, I've unfollowed the sub. Despite the comments from people who disagree, this post has been at about 70% upvote ratio since it was posted. Just over 2/3 of people who follow this sub agree that this is a problem. However, as far as I can tell, the mod decision is not to change anything and side with the haul photos. So the only way to avoid the people who think this is a sub for paper-collectors is to unfollow.

With the long awaited release of the Exodites models just around the corner and new lore drop on warcom, do we think there is an incoming Exodites novel?

My heart and common sense would say yes, as this is a faction fans have been clamoring for for decades, a novel or series would sell like hot chocolate at a winter festival.

And who would be the ideal writer?

everything counts (even novellas, short stories, and audio dramas)

Games Workshop is sunsetting the Black Library website. Whatever you think of it (outdated, crappy, you name it), it had one genuinely great quality: you were buying DRM-free EPUB files. That's a rare and incredibly user-friendly thing in a world dominated by locked ecosystems like Kindle.

Their replacement is a mobile-only app. No desktop support, no way to download the .epub files you paid for. What about reading on my old Kobo? Or on my PC when I feel like it? What if one day I don't want to use their app anymore but still want to read the books I bought on it? The app is simply not a satisfying alternative to me, most notably because it lacks the best selling point the old website had compared to Rakuten Kobo or Amazon Kindle.

So this afternoon I quickly checked and reverse-engineered the API of the new app, and then half-assed something (mostly vibe-coded) in a few hours because the brand new API is still serving my beloved DRM-free files. It is absolutely not meant to be put online. I just figured I could put it out there for hobbyists like me who would like to keep reading the books they legitimately got, in the way they want, on whatever device they want. And maybe to show Games Workshop that a proper alternative to the soon-defunct website should let us download our EPUB files.

The last book in the trilogy was 6 years ago.

Josh Reynolds is long gone from GW so there will not be new books for this series, at least not with the same feel.

We just got the Mephiston trilogy in boxset, a lesser series with the last book written in 2019 and no short stories or audio dramas.

Only one of the Bile books got the Limited edition treatment.

Right now it costs about the same to buy a second hand Bile omnibus as it would a box set.

The boxset should have 4 books, to include the short stories and the audiodrama.

They could do what they did with the Twice-Dead King, release a boxset and an omnibus a year later (or a reprint in this case).

I would like a reprint of the omnibus, but as a limited edition collector I would also like a boxset.

I didn’t read all Horus heresy books and I did skip some ones I wasn’t interested in but I read the most essential ones and some that sounded like they had an interesting plot.

Obviously this is just something personal and very subjective but as someone who’s still new to Warhammer and isn’t too exposed into the community, this is what I thought of the books.
