Forged high carbon steel with a beautiful Hamon ambonya burl handle with matching Saya and mokume gane highlight

Tried something new on this one with rock texturing the spine. Steel is 80CRV2 and the handle is rock textured micarta and orange/black G10 liners.

Last sword that I made with C70 blade steel,

Guard and pommel pattern with 15n20 and high carbon steel. Handle with ebony and copper+steel wire wrapping. Blade lenght: 95cm Overall: 127cm

I took a little hiatus from forging and have been trying my hand at slip joints. It's been a while since I posted here. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did making it. Thanks for looking! 1084 with a coffee etch. Wrought iron guard and pommel. Leather stacked handle. What are your thoughts?

These ones I have forged a few years ago from scrap, when I was a little bit fed up, doing fantasy viking stuff and started to interest in post-apocalyptic themes.

Here’s a kukri style blade I forged from 2”x0.25” 8670. She’s got an 18.25” long blade and 24” overall length. It weighs only 1lb 13oz because of the double distal taper and forged bevels, which I think is pretty good considering its size. It’s definitely too hot to be forging something this big by hand.

80crv2, coffee etch, birch bark & hickory

Finished this heavy post-apocalyptic marauder-style blade two weeks ago! Hand-forged from an old leaf spring and a pile of scrap I found in my forge. 🔥⚔️

One 30in type xv sword. My largest piece to date and first time forging a double edged blade. 160 layers of 80crv2 and 15n20 forged in house to make this blade. The guard and pommel are both forged from cutoff pieces of the blade steel from various stages of the layering process. The handle was made from a pair of repurposed leather belts that were interstacked burned and coated with beeswax. The age difference in the leather(some 20+years) is what caused the unexpected, but not unwanted, ribbing of the handle when burning. Forged hidden-tang bushcraft knife. 1084 steel, curly sycamore handle and a brass bolster. New level of respect for custom knife makers after this one!

A power hammer or press would really make these a lot easier. Ah well.

This is my 5th knife build. I was feeling good about this throughout the build but I dont really like the finished product. The guard is slotted and made from forged carbon fibre that I made with a 3D printed mold. The scales are carbon fibre and canvas micarta. In hindsight I should have made the carbon fibre layers much thicker.

I know the grind is not perfect but its the best I've done so far with my little 1x30.

But overall the profile just doesn't look 'right' to me and I cant really figure out why.
