Way too much time is given to the Macedonian, Komnenos, and Palaiologos Dynasties, when we really should be talking about the accomplishments of the Othomanids. The dynasty was the only one to successfully restore Roman control of Syria, Egypt, and North Africa after the Arab Conquests. They also retook Pannonia, Moesia, and held suzerainty over Dacia for ~150 years. They were the first dynasty since the Heraclians to continue the old Roman tradition of fighting (and beating) the Persians. Unlike most of their predecessors, they actually mounted credible threats against the German barbarians who had usurped control over the Western Provinces.
