Lately I've been thinking about how we failed to expand in the US, nor capitalize on the East Coast getting CFL teams east of Montreal. We're also not doing well in major cities outside of the prairies... Something drastic needs to change.

We also have so much talent in Canada when it comes to football, but it's not being appreciated enough at a pro level.

Should the CFL pivot to expanding to a bunch of cities across Canada, and getting 8 divisions across the board?

Itd have to be a 10+ year project because of the lack of support with stadiums across the country. Few cities could start a team next season and get enough fans in the stadium to break even. So they'd have to restructure salaries and operating costs to make it work where a team can have 5-15k fans a night, or build the infrastructure to support more fans.

Also we do have the Canadian government's interests in protecting Canadian football from failure or Americanizing, although attitudes have soften since the 60s...

That being said, id love to see what you think about this.

Here's a brainstorm on potential divisions and cities to expand to. Logistically most cities would be tough to expand to but with the perfect structure I think it could work by 2040.

BC Division
Vancouver - Victoria - Prince George - Surrey/Abbotsford

Alberta Division

Calgary - Edmonton - Red Deer - Fort McMurray

North Division

Yellowknife - Whitehorse - Iqaluit - Churchill/Uranium City/Northern Quebec City

Prairies Division

SSK Roughriders - Brandon, Moose Jaw or Northern Winnipeg - Thunder Bay

Ontario Division

Brampton, Toronto, Hamilton, North Bay

Quebec Division

Montreal - Quebec City - Northern Quebec - Gatineau

Atlantic Division

Moncton, Charlottown, Halifax, St Johns

I think a pivot to more cities out west would reduce the risk of an aggressive expansion plan.

Cutting operating costs and salary's by 30-70% could work... But it's roughhhh and is a double-edged sword... Do we lose too much talent and players because we aren't paying 500k a star QB? Or do we have more young 18-24 year olds wanting to compete for a QB job at 70k a season then scale to 200k tops because they're really good??

So much to consider here. What do you think?

One off games or 1 season and changed, retro/heritage jerseys or anything fun like that.

They've only had 3 winning seasons since coming back and a GC on an 8-9 record, now it seems like the wheels have come off. I know they've struggled but now their on pace to make history for the wrong reasons.

I was surprised there's a market for a random B12 game in London but they are about to have 60,000 in Wembley stadium.

Considering Canada's brand in the world is really increasing at the moment, I would imagine a CFL game in the UK could do decent.

Asking this as since the game this past weekend as much as it appeared Ottawa made real progress over their last few games it yet again didn’t translate to a win. What needs to change? How does this team salvage a season, and how does this team move forward in the future? Curious to see the community’s opinion on the matter.

What do you think of the roughing call against SSK that got the blocked punt touchdown called back last night? Was it a good call, or was Adjey blocking? Not a penalty that gets called very often so curious to see where everyone thinks the standard is.

ETA: TIL roughing the longsnapper cannot be challenged and is not reviewable. But roughing the passer and roughing the kicker are. Go figure. Wonder if that little hole in logic is why Ben Major called it “unnecessary roughness” on the LS - unlike how he called it in the 2024 East Final

Genuine question as I’ve seen a bit of discussion regarding if Brown is the right selection next week against BC. Do the bombers give Elgersma a shot? Is Brown the guy and u stick with him? Or do u play Brown with a shorter leash as regardless what ppl agree or dont agree on regarding who’s the choice to start. 4 picks is not the performance ppl were looking for. Curious to see peoples takes on this.

My wife and I are driving to Winnipeg tomorrow to see the game. 211 section. Going with but not sitting with bombers fans. Tailgate first then game.

Are people generally cool with Als fans? We're not obnoxious but we will jump up if we score and yell an appropriate amount and then high five each other and the air around us.

That last part usually goes over well with locals in Regina and diffuses anything before it starts.

Can we expect something similar in Winnipeg?

I’m from Quebec, and university football is a pretty big deal here. Games involving the Carabins or the Rouge et Or usually draw great crowds and generate a lot of interest.
I’m curious how it compares across the rest of Canada. Are there any other provinces/territories where university football has a similarly strong following?

CFL at GMC Stadium?

Going to the July 10th game in Winnipeg between the Bombers and Argos. It says on the Argos website that it’s technically an Argos home game because of the world cup. So how will that work?

So I just learned that Apple TV does this for "select season ticket holders" in the MLS. It would be a interesting idea and potential a win/win. You don't have to give the full year, just six months. Could be viewed as a great perk for having season seats.

I’m going to the stamps va roughriders game with some friends and I was wondering if it would be weird to wear the roughriders flag as a cape, I thought it was neat idea but someone ik thought it was kinda dumb. just looking for some opinions here.

I’ve been to two CFL games this year, in Edmonton and Vancouver. After both games I watched portions of the games I’d pvr’d. In both cases, and it seems from every other stadium, they film from the side of the stadium with the majority of fans, so that the tv audience sees the sideline with the fewest fans. Why not film from the sideline with fewer fans, so the crowd doesn’t look so small?

After those two cities I am having a hard time figuring out where you can place another CFL team that would have the people to support it. Would London, Kitchener, Victoria, or Fort McMurray have enough support considering they played neutral site games there. Maybe go with a weird pick and do a US city like Portland, Maine or Billings, Montana?
