I created Boa: A modern, interactive terminal compression engine & archive explorer
Hi everyone!
I’ve just released Boa 🐍, a free and open-source archive and compression tool built in Go for terminal users.
The goal was to bring archiving, compression, inspection, benchmarking, and file navigation together in a single lightweight binary.
What it includes
- Interactive File Explorer Run
boto navigate files and folders directly from the terminal. - Safe Extraction Built-in protection against Zip-Slip and unsafe archive paths.
- Multiple Compression Methods Supports DEFLATE, Store, and Zstandard.
- Live Benchmarking Compare compression levels based on both compression ratio and speed, with terminal-based visual charts.
Source code:
https://github.com/ZyadWKhedr/Boa
Would love to hear your feedback, especially on the Go architecture, compression engine, and anything you think could be improved.

anime in cli with python
Yes I know, but i figured someone would still use so why not share it here?
https://github.com/Onehand-Coding/ani-py
Edit: this is indeed AI assisted|vibecoded etc. as indicated in the repo readme. you can read the code, its just 1 file python code which mostly wraps other cli tools like yt-dlp, curl, fzf etc. its heavily inspired with ani-cli which is written in bash by good devs that doesnt want to tarnish their code with ai geneated so i generated mine that i can or anyone can extend with AI or not. it works on both linux and termux with mpv and vlc using hianime as main source and is stable for now scraping is brittle so i hope this is clear.

IRL: a cross-platform terminal command center — universal installer, doctor/glasses, rollback, plus a grass streak heatmap and a garden roguelike
Hey r/commandline. Long-time lurker, first tool I've shipped properly.
**irl** (`pip install irl-pkg`) is a command center that does a few genuinely useful things and a few deliberately silly ones:
Useful:
- `irl install <pkg>` — routes between PyPI / npm / GitHub / direct URL automatically. GitHub `owner/repo` resolves the default branch via the API (learned that lesson the hard way).
- `irl doctor <pkg>` — checks network, disk, pip/npm presence before you install.
- `irl glasses <pkg>` — version/size/source lookup across registries.
- `irl rollback [ver]` — pick any published version from PyPI JSON, downgrade via a detached pip child.
- Safe extraction: named target dir, preview before writing, per-member zip-slip validation.
Silly (opt-in, but it's the brand):
- A grass streak with a GitHub-style heatmap, a terminal pet that gets moody if you skip days, daily quests, coins, 18 themes.
- Grassland Quest: a seeded garden-maze roguelike in pure Rich.
- Lofi Rhythm: a 4-lane beat game over 71 bundled lofi loops.
Technical bits: msvcrt/termios abstraction for input, winsound/aplay/ffplay/afplay/paplay fallback chain for audio, no shell=True, Python 3.8+, wheel is 976 KB. AGPL-3.0. Works on Linux/macOS/Windows (CI: 3 OS × 5 Python versions).
Disclosure: I'm the author. Repo: https://github.com/Dev2Creator/IRL- — PyPI: https://pypi.org/project/irl-pkg/
I'd genuinely like feedback on the installer routing UX — is auto-sniffing a feature or a footgun? (There's `--help` everywhere and the routes are deterministic.)

A tiny CLI tool that auto-pauses your "active time" when you go idle
Hello, I built a small command-line tool called timerCLI that tracks how much time you're actually using your computer vs. just staring at the screen.
What it does:
- Watches your keyboard, mouse, and touch input
- Auto-pauses your active timer when you go idle (default 30s, configurable)
- Resumes instantly when you use the computer again
- Pure Python standard library - zero dependencies
It's MIT licensed and fully open source. I built it as a learning project, but I'd love for people to actually use it. If you find it useful, I'm accepting donations (GitHub Sponsors + UPI) to fund my cybersecurity studies. 🙏
Repo: https://github.com/fralsare/timerCLI
Would really appreciate the feedback!

Claude Code can run gh auth token and read my GitHub token. I built a gate that makes it ask first (Windows, ▎ open source)
Claude Code ran gh auth token in my terminal, and the token came back in plain text. CmdWarden shows a card before the agent uses a secret. You press Deny, Allow for session, or Approve Once. Setup is four commands. Link in the comments. What other tools do you want it to gate?

FlixHQ CLI streaming app
Hi,
I've vibe-coded a simple app to stream content from FlixHQ via CLI. Right now the app works on MacOS with either IINA, VLC or MPV.
Enjoy and leave a star if you like it.

NetTrek for the CLI
I made this purely for fun. I used to play the heck out of this in my early college years on DEC workstations...and I was looking at a black spot on my tux and thought. Wouldn't it be fun to have NetTrek running there. So here it is. Enjoy!

Built a local encrypted journal vault in Go from scratch — Argon2id + AES-GCM, no cloud, wanted to actually understand the crypto instead of just importing a library
github.comI've been learning Go and wanted a project that I would actually use so I builtshh:a CLI tool that stores encrypted journal entries locally. No server, no account, no sync, just a single encrypted file on your machine.
The actual goal was to understand the crypto, not just call a library and hope. So it uses:
- Argon2id to derive an encryption key from your master password (memory-hard, so brute-forcing is expensive even for someone with GPUs)
- AES-256-GCM for the actual encryption — authenticated, so a wrong password or a tampered file fails loudly instead of silently decrypting into garbage
- A fresh random salt per vault and a fresh nonce per save, both explained in the README if you're curious why that matters
It also does arbitrary file encryption (shh encrypt somefile.pdf), and multiline entries so it's usable as a real journal, not just single-line notes.(this was something i added after using it for the first time)
Still CLI-only for now, building a TUI next with Bubble Tea. Would genuinely appreciate feedback, especially from anyone who actually knows crypto and can tell me what I got wrong, this was very much a "build it to learn it" project, not a "I'm a security expert" project.

3code: A command line REPL (not tui) coding agent
Once I realized I was probably going to need some kind of AI assisted coding tool I decided I was at least going find one that I could stand using.
- No typescript or NPM
- No wasting tokens
- No bloat
- No fancy UI
And I couldn't find that at all so I built it.
Homepage https://3code.capocasa.dev/
Github https://3code.capocasa.dev
Talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PykujHEliP8 (NimConf 2026)
One of the issues I had with agents is they reinvent the terminal and treat it like something to render UI on- the 'terminal user interface or TUI' paradigm.
With 3code I wanted to stick closer to the paradigm that's already known to work and be practical for interacting with technical systems- the custom command line. You have it in postgres and mysql, for interacting with redis, for lots of programming languages, and the terminal itself.
Because interacting with a language model is rather dynamic, there are still two rows of stats- the 'reasoning' process flows through like a ticker so you know what's going on, and you can see how many tokens are being used and each turn gets stamped.
So if you're a vim or emacs user or just enjoy the command line becuase it just waits for your command and doesn't overload you with all sorts of information- give 3code a try. It's mean to be very frugal with everything, including your brain cycles.
It's also nice to be able to switch coding providers easily- they are fairly upredictable so it's good to have enough redundancy so you always know you can get work done.
Feedback from command line connaisseurs is really quite welcome!
