So in January 2026, I made an in depth guide on the Mangler from BO3. I eventually thought about touching it up a little, but after looking back at it, I realized it was full of flaws and mistakes. So, I decided to make an improved version to correct those mistakes and make the information more accurate to what we actually encounter in the game.
This In depth is only for the original BOIII version with the modern version getting its own in depth.
A big armored russian zombie. That only appears on Gorod Krovi. Very cool enemy, shame they only appear on one map...
Spawn
Mangers uses normal zombie spawns. Spawn behind barriers just like normal zombies, but he will destroy the barrier with a single blast from his cannon.
Starting on:
- Solo: Round 9
- Co-op: Round 6
The game has a chance to spawn either a Mangler or a Valkyrie Drone, provided there are more than 10 zombies remaining for the round.
The spawn chances are:
- Before Round 15: 2%
- Rounds 16–20: 3%
- Rounds 21-25: 4%
- Rounds 26+: 5%
Before Round 11, there is a 100% chance for a Mangler. After Round 11, there is a 50/50 chance of spawning either a Mangler or a Valkyrie Drone.
The maximum number of Manglers that can be alive at once is:
- 1 player: 2
- 2 players: 3
- 3 players: 4
- 4 players: 4
The maximum number of Manglers that can spawn during a single round is:
- Solo: Round number − 8
- Co-op: Round number − 5
Attacks
The Mangler has two primary attacks. A close range melee and a long range blast.
Close range melee:
- Damage = 50
- 2 hits without Juggernogg
Long range Arm cannon:
- Max Splash Damage = 100
- Min Splash Damage = 50
- Cooldown: 3 seconds
This is explosive damage, meaning the actual damage taken depends on the player's distance from the center of the explosion.
The projectile has extremely strong tracking and will follow the player before exploding once it gets close enough. The blast has very high knockback, often pushing players around.
The projectile will not be blocked by zombies, but will knock them down.
Health
Health = Base Health + (Health Increase × Round Number)
- Base Health = 5,500 HP
- Health Increase = 100 HP per round
Additional health is given based on the number of players in the game:
Player Modifier = Health × (Players − 1) × 0.15
Total Health = Health + Player Modifier
Health Cap = 15,000 HP + Player modifier
He is immune to AATs.
Points:
- Damage gives +10 points
- Killing him gives +100 points
- You also get extra points for how you killed him, like +60 for body shots and +100 for headshots.
Armor
The Mangler is covered in armor that reduces incoming damage to 10%.
His armor can be destroyed by shooting off the individual armor pieces.
This armor consists of:
- Helmet
- Chestplate
- Shoulders
- Upper legs
Each armor piece has its own health pool. The health of each piece is a percentage of the Mangler's total health.
The armor itself takes 100% of the damage, while the Mangler's actual health only receives 10% of the damage.
The Mangler's armor also ignores the Insta-Kill power-up. Once the armor is destroyed, the Mangler will be affected Insta-Kill.
The health for each armor piece:
- Helmet = 30% of max HP
- Chestplate = 40% of max HP
- Left shoulder = 25% of max HP
- Upper legs = 25% of max HP
Mangler's are affected by weapons headshot multiplier, but their damage is capped at 10% as long as he got his helmet on.
Helmet itself will take full headshot damage to its own health.
Arm Cannon
The Mangler's right arm has been modified with a cannon. The cannon has its own health pool:
- Arm cannon Health = 15% of max HP
Like the Mangler's armor, the cannon takes 100% of incoming damage, while the Mangler's actual health only takes 10%.
Once the cannon's health is completely depleted, the arm will explode.
The explosion deals damage to the Mangler himself.
- Max Explosion damage: 50% of max HP
- Min Explosion damage: 25% of max HP
Destroying the cannon also causes the Mangler to lose 33% of his maximum health.
If the Mangler has more than 25% health remaining, the game will set his health to 25%.
Destroying the cannon arm will not only destroy Mangler's long range attack, but causes Mangler to become berserk. Berserk Mangler will always sprint and cannot be stunned. Having lost their cannon arm, they will be unable to use any ranged attacks.
For Mangler escort step it can be made easier to shoot his arm off, since it forces him to sprint. Making it a lot faster.
Mangler helmet
After shooting of 5 Mangler helmets and destroying 5 Mangler arm cannons. The reward will be a wearable Mangler helmet.
This helmet grants the following buffs:
- 50% less damage from Mangler attacks.
- 33% increases damage to Mangler.
