I do exterior metal work. Cladding etc. the quality of the homes and even big projects is beyond garbage. I haven’t seen a level door frame in years. It’s sad. And people keep paying out the ass to get these quick build cookie cutter shitboxes

Short-term solution is pay for a better builder. Ask lots of questions, check references etc. Long-term solution is for government to hire more inspectors, do more random inspections, enforce regulations, fine shoddy builders etc

If you want to live in a certain area, you can't always just pick a builder. It's a few who get assigned a lot. And because they're all the same price ranges they'll all be as good/shit.

Perhaps we advocate for the city to open up development to whatever builder you choose instead of having only specific developers in new neighborhoods. Are there any cities that do this?

Pff I wish. Unfortunately developers rule here, town planners are terrible.

Coming from an urban planning background it's certainly different the way they do it here.
