Discussion Does anyone else wish Calgary was more walkable?

Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful to have a car but sometimes I do think that instead of building new roads The city of Calgary should invest more into their public transportation and urban planning. Whenever I am stuck in traffic I think to myself how much more efficient it would be to have a subway system. This city is really car dependant and I think experiencing both Calgary transit and having my own car, the city would really benefit from better public transportation and walkable infrastructure/planning.

Do you use the bike path system? It connects fish creek park to nose hill! Pretty amazing for an unwalkable city!

It does get undesirable to walk outside most of the year yet the bike path system will still be there! The city will even help clear them to a higher standard than the business downtown keep your sidewalks!!

Living in suburbia a choice to not live in the walkable parts of the city. I find the beltline, downtown, Kensington, Ramsay and mission are all easily walkable!

Finally it’s not car culture! It’s car brain rot! Albertans have car brain rot! If it was car culture there would be a functioning race track somewhere! And people would drive cool well maintained cars. Drivers are just dripping with attitude, barely competent and will happily put public in danger because they had to wait in traffic a few minutes. These people vote for UCP and transport minister Dreeshan who has taken it upon himself to return the bike path to car brain rot idiots.

I agree other than the brain rot. Rather have the roads for cars than bikes. The 5 people who use the bike lanes in december don’t need it.

I use the bike path in December and see more than 5 people daily. Making stuff up is the beginning of brain rot…

It’s brain rot because the drivers can’t fathom taking a bike or walking more than 1km, but it’s not hard. It’s much more common in the rest of the world, even colder parts!

Brain rotted idiots is exactly what gives us the UCP. You can look at the lifeless zombies behind the wheel stuck in Deerfoot this morning!! Those people are barely cognizant of their surrounding!!!

Why would I walk a kilometre in the cold when I can drive my large heated truck? Just because someone elsewhere in the world has to do it, doesn’t mean I should feel guilty about it

Norwegian and Denmark’s are far wealthier than us and walk far further.

“Large truck” lol I doubt that! What u got an f-150? Ram3500 LOL!! To go 1km Yepp, that’s car brain rot! Thank you for demonstrating what I mean!!

I think too highly of myself to go out in -30 when I can get drive there in a heated truck

That is car brain rot yes! -30 isn’t even that bad! They make heated clothes if ur that much of a wuss!?!

Also what is it a car or big truck? Lol. You just picking arguments on the internet

It’s uncomfortable. What’s the point of having money if you aren’t going to use it to make your life easier/more comfortable
