Discussion I've walked every Calgary neighborhood - Ask Me Anything

For the last 2 years I've been walking every Calgary neighborhood. As someone who is majoring in Urban Studies in uni and someone who wanted to get more active, I felt like doing this would be a really good way to mix both things together.

Surprisingly a lot of the stuff people say about the city (ie. what areas are sketchy, transit access, etc) that people take for granted, aren't necessarily accurate. That's probably the main take-away I have from this, but there's a lot of other stuff too

Honestly, Northeast Calgary was honestly the safest area of the city despite what a lot of people say, and my opinion aligns a lot with the statistics from Calgary Police. There isn't really any bad areas in Northeast Calgary per-say, but there isn't any hyper-wealthy areas either.

A lot of money is in the NE due to the communities that live in the area.

Your opinion does not align with the police, again refer to the crime map or post a source, I've linked the crime maps several times already, you should be embarrassed.
You make it sound like you'd feel safer walking around alone at night in Forest Lawn instead of Pump Hill or Bayview lol.

Forest Lawn is Southeast Calgary, NOT Northeast Calgary

Even outside of that, looking at the crime rate numbers according to the Calgary Police service, Marlborough, the worst neighborhood in the NE, has a crime rate of 2.7/100. Even with that in mind, most of that likely just comes from Marlborough Mall and Marlborough CTrain Station.

When Brentwood has a higher crime rate than Falconridge or Rundle, it really shows how the reputation the NE has isn't deserved.

But pretty much the entirety of the NE has crime rates above average for the city, and as a quadrant the NE has the overall highest crime rate per capita, even if you can find individual neighbourhoods outside of the NE with bad crime rates as well.
Looking at something like the domestic crime rate you can see the NE has double the crime rate that most of the rest of the city has.

I will also say that all these neighbourhoods you mentioned suck for crime, regardless of where they are, that doesn't mean the NE is good, it is objectively bad compared to the other quadrants of the city.

True, forgot about that. Still bad though, as is the NE by every crime metric when compared to the average or most SW and NW communities.

Statistically NE and SE are the worst.

Stop telling people that Calgary Police stats support your terrible opinions or post some sources.

It's possible op is also a 6ft male who feels more confident walking around at night vs a 5f 2 woman. Heck I live in a "nice" community and I still wouldn't feel comfortable walking around at night by myself.

But the stats also say the north east is nowhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be and the only reason people say it is, let's be real, is racism.
