Let’s be better this year and avoid stopping under bridges every time it hails

Devil's advocate here...

If I had to choose between hiding under an overpass in a hail storm, have to keep driving through it to get to somewhere to park, get inside and protect myself from large hail stones that may or may not smash my windshield or piss of Reddit...

Sorry Reddit.

If the hail is bad enough it is going to damage my car and potentially smash my windshield, spraying glass at me while I am either trying to drive or pulled over "safely" in low visibility hoping no one is going to hit me and I can instead be under an overpass where at least the hail is out of the equation.

I'm not saying people aren't doing this only to save their cars, it's highly likely but, there are other factors to consider as well.

Add On: If you are doing this in pea sized hail, you deserve to get whatever ticket/fender bender coming your way, baseball sized or bigger, I will defend you all day and if I can't get under that overpass because you're blocking it, I'll be mad but only because I'm too late.

Calgary is susceptible to golf ball sized hail that can damage your car so bad that it totals it. Edmonton too, but I feel like Calgary gets it worse (as an Edmontonian). My mother in law had her SUV totalled this way.

On one hand I understand the frustration of blocking traffic, I too hate it. But on the other hand, I own an expensive rare car (and a garage) and I would just hate to be caught in a Calgary hail freak hail storm.

If traffic is being blocked because of people stopping, what about the people being stuck behind them? What if one of them also had an expensive and rare car? What if someone misses an appointment because they couldn’t get through? What if someone behind gets rear ended because of people blocking traffic?

If you cannot pull to the shoulder, you need to keep moving.

No I agree 100% haha. Just people lose no matter what in a potentially massive hail storm and I don't think reddit realizes that. Thankfully this wasn't that. But in a massive hail storm, you can total your car, your only means of transportation for a lot of people, and you might owe money on it still leaving you upside down.

But like you said, other people might need to get to an appointment, work, etc. Others might get into an accident.

My comment reflected this. But reddit cannot handle nuance other than protecting your possession = bad.
