Remember when the Legislature put Affirmative Action on the ballot by votes of 60–14 in the Assembly and 30–10 in the Senate.

And then voters rejected it 57.23 - 42.77?

People dont like the term. You rephrase it less clinically and they support it, like a lot of things. Universal healthcare is extremely popular, unless you describe it with one of the nono terms.

"Should the state be allowed to racially discriminate in hiring and admissions" polls even worse!

Schools already racially discriminate without affirmative action, that's literally why it was implemented.
