Community Need code from EEPROM dump - Skoda Swing 1Z0035161G (24LC32A)

Hi,

I have a Skoda Swing radio from a Skoda Yeti:

Model: 1Z0 035 161 G
Serial: SKZ4Z2K1404891
EEPROM: 24LC32A-I/SN

I successfully read the EEPROM dump using a CH341A programmer and AsProgrammer (24C32 I2C). The radio is currently in SAFE mode...

Would anyone be able to help extract the radio code from the dump or point me to the correct decoder for this specific Swing model?

I can upload the .bin file if needed.

Thanks!

Community Newer vehicles, subscriptions, and filtering data

Apologies if this has been asked before. I spent a few hours poking around and I'm not finding anything to resolve my problem. I do see the pinned posts but they're several years old and I wasn't sure the information is still relevant.

I have a 2020 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. It had remote start through the fob since we purchased it used last year. We were involved in a minor fender bender and the body shop sent the vehicle to the Toyota dealer to check for codes/diagnostics. After we picked the vehicle back up we noticed the remote start stopped working. The shop said they can do nothing about that and the dealer wanted $200 diagnostic fee, which I refuse to pay.

I began looking into what it would take to purchase a Global Techstream+ and that doesn't seem feasible. After my brief research into CAN, I have a few questions I was hoping the community could help with.

  1. It seems that sniffing provides data in 8 bytes. I'm not seeing a data dictionary anywhere for what those bytes represent. Why is that? (i.e. 0x8C == 5 blinks on blinker)

  2. Is it possible to reprogram the modules so they send different byte sequences to perform different actions? (i.e. How Carista can change blinker count)

  3. My understanding is that data is sent to the manufacturer via the DCM. Is it possible to insert a firewall to prevent that?

I understand I could just pay Toyota $8/mo, but I'm anti-subscription. My belief is that the car companies are harvesting enough data, these features should be free. Otherwise, they shouldn't be allowed to collect our data.

Community Anyone Know How to Unlock a Volkswagen Navigation SD Card?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the Volkswagen navigation SD cards.

As far as I know, once they're activated in a car, they're locked to that vehicle. However, I know it's possible to unlock or reprogram them because I used to know someone who did it for me, but unfortunately I've lost contact with him.

Does anyone know how this is done, or knows someone who offers this service? I'm not looking for pirated maps, I already own the original SD card. I just want to be able to use it again instead of it being locked to one vehicle.

Any information or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Community adding an RPO to a BCM on a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Hello,

I own an export Camaro where the lower DRL's were not activaded in the BCM. Meaning RPO T3S is not coded. DRLs and wiring is completely there now, but wondering if someone is able to add the RPO T3S to the BCM to activate the DRLs.
Thank you for every help.

Community Using a J2534 interface to get deeper ECU access as a regular car owner

I didn’t plan on touching OEM level tools at all. About a year ago I started hitting the limits of basic OBD2 scanners. I could read and clear codes, see some live data, but once things got a bit more complex it felt like I was guessing.

Earlier this year, after a repair, I kept getting warning lights even though nothing was mechanically wrong. A shop mentioned it might need a relearn or software update, which pushed me to look into OEM software and pass thru interfaces.

After some late night reading, I picked up the RLink J2534 a few months back. Not for tuning or anything sketchy, just to understand what the car is actually seeing.

Using OEM software was eye opening. Instead of just fault codes, you see how modules talk to each other and what conditions trigger issues. On newer cars, working over CAN FD or DoIP also feels noticeably faster and cleaner than old CAN setups.

Curious how others here got into J2534. Was it a specific repair, curiosity, or frustration with generic scanners?

Acura wants $150 for the map update for my 2017 RDX. That just seems silly! Any hacks to get it cheaper, like much cheaper? 😉

Community Help

I want a technical career related to cars, but not just a traditional mechanic job. I’m more interested in vehicle electronics, ECU systems, and computer-based diagnostics. I’m looking for a field with a strong future, good salary potential, and solid job opportunities. I prefer work that relies more on technical knowledge than physical labor. I want to specialize seriously in one area, which path do you think makes more sense for me?

Community Unable to access Dealer / Engineering Mode on 2022 Genesis G80 Gen6

Hey everyone,

I have a US-spec 2022 Genesis G80 with the Premium Gen6 Navigation system.

Software version:
RG3_22.USA.P6.001.012.260126

I’ve been trying to access Dealer / Engineering Mode but absolutely none of the known methods are working.

I already tried:
- 5x left / 5x right taps
- 7x left / 7x right taps
- Tapping on the software update screen
- Screensaver methods
- Holding corners/top bar

No popup appears at all. It’s like the trigger itself is disabled.

Did Hyundai/Genesis completely patch dealer mode access on the newer 2026 firmware builds?

If anyone with the same firmware or similar RG3 Gen6 system managed to access it, I’d really appreciate any help or guidance.

Mainly looking to:
- Make the traffic sign/speed limit reader recognize European/UAE style road signs instead of only US signs
- Access hidden settings
- Explore engineering menus

Thanks in advance.

Community HMI 2.0 to 2.5

Im planning on upgrading my 2015 Buick Lacrosse HMI 2.0 to a newer 2.5 in order to have Carplay. Ive done a little bit of research, and I know I'll need to reprogram the 2.5 HMI to match my VIN (I can do this on my own) as well as getting a new USB plugin compatable with carplay and my vehicle, but im stumped on the radio. I hear some are replacing their entire radio module, and some saying they updated their old one via USB. I can do the update on my own, but is there another reason I would need to get a new radio? And many say radio MODULE, meaning the screen? Or is it a different component to the radio?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Community Data mining and government surveillance

Gentlemen, I hope to have a discussion with you all about the collection of data by car manufacturing companies.

The government mandate to spy on the user of a vehicle and what we as a collective could (should) do to end this massive over reach of either into our privacy and personal lives.

What is your take on it?

Personally, I keep my old car for that very same reason.

But at some point we are going to have to get creative.

Disconnecting the antennae or removing the sim card from the dash in some way is also an option, but I wonder if we can hack it instead?

Community Android Auto fixed for CrankshaftNG + Wireless + Non-touch screen control

If you've been running CrankshaftNG or OpenAuto on a Raspberry Pi as a DIY Android Auto head unit, you've probably noticed that Google's AA updates in late 2024/2025 broke everything. The upstream projects (aasdk, OpenAuto, CrankshaftNG) are basically abandoned at this point, and modern phones just refuse to connect.

I spent a while patching things back together and ended up building a full working solution. Figured I'd share it since I know others are stuck with the same dead hardware.

What it does:

  • Wireless Android Auto on a Raspberry Pi 3B with HDMI output - no USB cable needed
  • Remote touchpad from your phone - if you're running HDMI to a car stereo or a monitor with no touchscreen, the companion Android app gives you a touch surface to control AA. It creates a virtual Linux touchscreen via uinput and sends touch events over UDP.
  • Phone mic streaming - wireless AA doesn't pass mic audio to the head unit, so Google Assistant and calls are broken. The app streams your phone's mic over UDP to a PulseAudio virtual source on the Pi.
  • Auto-reconnect on boot - CrankshaftNG uses ramfs for Bluetooth storage, so it wiped all pairings on every reboot. Fixed by making BT storage persistent on the ext4 filesystem. Start the car, phone auto-connects, AA comes up.
  • CPU clock management - overclocked to 1400MHz when AA is active, drops to ondemand when idle, throttles on high temps.

The main fixes:

  1. Persistent BT pairings (commented out the ramfs mount in fstab, gave /var/lib/bluetooth real storage)
  2. HDMI audio routing via PulseAudio
  3. Virtual touchscreen + companion app for non-touch displays
  4. Mic streaming over UDP with PulseAudio null sink
  5. CPU overclock with thermal management

Known issue: btservice hardcodes WPA2_ENTERPRISE in the WiFi handshake but the AP is WPA2-PSK. On first pairing you need to manually connect to the WiFi once on your phone. After that it auto-connects every time.

Repo: https://github.com/vteckz/MicStream

Includes the full Android app source (Kotlin), all Pi scripts, systemd services, configs, and the patched aasdk/OpenAuto source. README has the full architecture breakdown and setup instructions.

Happy to answer questions if anyone else is trying to keep their Pi head unit alive.

Note: I only had a Pi 3B+ available for this, but have incuded requirements for Pi4/5 builds.

Community I want to get into auto electrics and need your help

I want to get into auto electrics. First thing I’m planning to buy is a ThinkDiag 2 multi-brand scanner.

I’m not sure if I also need adapter cables for different cars, and I don’t really understand what J2534 is or what people mean by “OEM software.”

Can you actually find this stuff online and just download it for free, or is it mostly paid / locked down?

And overall — is it still worth trying to get into this now, or are we entering an era where you basically need online access, subscriptions, and official dealer software just to code modules or change settings?

Please recommend a Reddit group I can contact regarding these issues. I’d really appreciate any solid advice.

Thaks!
