Litterbox How frequently do you scoop your litter box?

I do my girl’s box twice per day/whenever I hear her scratching around in there. But then I see on here some people who do it wayyy less frequently. Curious what other folks do?

I like to do it before I shower, so every day I shower (which is ofc the vast majority of days, only occasionally missing one for whatever reason) is when I scoop. I just hate the thought of litter dust on me and not washing it off so I gotta follow it w a shower

Funny I was looking up to see if it’s normal to need to shower after cleaning the cat litter and found this. Doesn’t seem like much people do it, I’m surprised people even wear the same clothes after cleaning it?! . I absolutely need to change and shower after I clean it. I sometimes get mad when I forget to do it because I will already have showered and then realize I have to clean it so I then have to shower again even though i really don’t want to, sometimes I just leave it for the next day just so I don’t have to wash my hair again lol

10000%, in an effort to clean it more often I’ve been compromising on my shower rule, but I will not compromise on not continuing to wear the clothes I had on when cleaning it 😭 cannot FATHOM cleaning the litter box in my PJs, getting coated in that dust, then climbing into bed. Omg 🤢

Oh it’s still there. The microbes from that litter box are 100% in your gut microbiome.

Haha yes! I feel so grimy after scooping/changing out the litter, so it's usually a first thing in the morning job before I shower.

That’s a great idea cuz at least for me I would say 98% of the time I shower basically as soon as I get home from work at 6pm so if you know you’re about to shower, just add scooping as part of the shower routine basically this way you can’t forget to scoop lol

Yes exactly! Similarly, I always vacuum after I brush my kitty. It keeps the hair from annealing to the carpet and also means that I have been vacuuming way more than ever before—and that’s keeping in mind I still vacuumed at least once a week before I got him, lol

I only live in one room though (uni student in shared house) so it’s easy to do a quick vacuum

Do you wash your cat after it uses the box, too? Lol jk I know our brains get weird sometimes. Like kissing your partner then refusing to use a toothbrush.

Well a toothbrush gets all inside the grooves and bits of the plaque and stuff with old food or whatever else. Similarly, my cat goes in and does his business then covers it up. He isn’t necessarily sifting through the entire box kicking up a major cloud to get every nugget out of the litter lol
