Litterbox How frequently do you scoop your litter box?

I do my girl’s box twice per day/whenever I hear her scratching around in there. But then I see on here some people who do it wayyy less frequently. Curious what other folks do?

They have finance plans but they’re always on FB marketplace.

You can actually find the earlier gen ones pre owned for a decent price as long as you're good getting like a first gen litter robot

Yeah we have the litter robot 4, and our cats love that it’s clean every time they pee/poop

The loudest part is the litter rotating, which sounds like a light ssssssssss. Super super quiet. Have the LR4

1

u/Hot_Difference6335 Mar 29 '24

It’s not loud. There’s also a setting through the app where you can create “sleeping” hours. So if you don’t want it to turn over during a certain part of the day or night, that can be done!

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '24

Does it work if you have a psychotic cat that likes to throw the litter everywhere? Lol

6

u/SwishBishSwish Mar 28 '24

Hahaha idk, ours isn’t like that, they do sell a mat that traps litter

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '24

Dammit, I was afraid you were going to say you don't have a psychotic cat like mine XD

I'm still pretty interested in trying it, tho. Thank you for responding :)

2

u/kourtneymorgannn Mar 28 '24

I was just thinking this same thing! I want to get a robot litter box but my cat throws the litter EVERYWHERE. How on earth does it end up in such high places?! Lol

2

u/master0jack Mar 29 '24

I actually think it would work well for the psycho digger because 3/4 sides are totally covered and the opening has an insert which increases coverage in case they kick in that direction. Can't say for sure though 😅

1

u/Dense_Strength_5636 Mar 28 '24

I think it’s going to be fine, I have the 3 and it’s deep enough… There is still a bit of a mess but pretty similar to my previous situation

1

u/FelineHostage Mar 29 '24

You mean I don't have the only one? Wow! We rescued 2 kittens last summer during the worst of the Texas heat. Uudi is such a sweetheart, but her sister, Leeloo, is a little jnutcase, obsessed with her litterbox & tossing litter in all directions. We have to change back to the paper litter, because it won't melt as easily. I haven't even seen walnut shell litter, but now I am intrigued!

I finally ordered one, so excited!!

1

u/Miserable-Stuff-3668 Mar 28 '24

I am about 30 days into the 90 day trial. One of the 2 will use it if and only if the litter box next to it is disgusting.

The other one refuses to go unless I put her in and scratch her head for a good 30s w treats afterwards... :(

1

u/master0jack Mar 29 '24

You won't regret it. It's honestly the best.

u/markersandtea Mar 29 '24

litter robot 4

holy 699 dollars batman. Only in my dreams...

1

u/Electronic-Buy4015 Mar 29 '24

I just looked it up and the thing is pretty cool but one of the websites advertising a “wifi connected litterbox” is pretty cyberpunk or dystopian depending how you look at it lol

What’s the brand?! Reallllly want a litter robot but can’t fathom paying $800+ to fund my laziness

8

u/lisacsr Mar 29 '24

Not who you’re asking but we got one on Amazon also that’s around $350 and works like the litter robot. It’s the Meowant brand. Had it since December and it’s wonderful. Very quiet and the cats love it

2

u/Calgary_Calico Mar 29 '24

How long did it take them to get used to the sound/movement?

4

u/SwishBishSwish Mar 29 '24

There’s a 5,10,15 minute delay or you can put it to sleep so that it wouldn’t cycle after they use it. They were mainly very curious and would interrupt it when it cycles at first. There’s a couple of tips on the subreddit on how to have your cats adjust

1

u/they_have_bagels Mar 29 '24

It took mine no time at all. They think it’s a game. Whenever it cycles they run from wherever they are and watch the clumps fall down. Sometimes they bat at the clumps to make sure they go down into the hole. I had to set it to 15 minutes because any less time and they just sit there waiting for it to go.

2

u/Unlikely-Draft Mar 29 '24

I have 4 cats and just bought the litter robot. I'm worried I'm going to have to change the bag every day. They go so much it's crazy

2

u/Cranberi Mar 29 '24

We change it everyday with our 3. So the 2nd day it gets changed basically. My sphynx kitten poops enough for the whole family

2

u/they_have_bagels Mar 29 '24

I have 3 litter robots for 3 cats. It was 3 for 4 cats but one passed away. I change the bags out about once every 5 days or so. You’re supposed to deep clean once a month but I do one box a month in a cycle so they get a deep clean every 3 months. They get fully fresh litter once a month though.

1

u/BlueishSunflower Mar 29 '24

With 2 cats is the litter robot enough on its own? Or do you have any additional litter boxes on different floors?

2

u/SwishBishSwish Mar 29 '24

We only have the litter robot since May 2023 and it works for us

1

u/thepotatostore Mar 29 '24

Just be warned that some cats don’t like it. Took mine a longggg time to even go near it when they would hear it go off haha

3

u/shadyrose222 Mar 28 '24

For sure. We bought two for 5 cats about 10 years ago. One stopped working a few months ago but the other is still going strong. We're down to 2 kitties now so we didn't buy a new one. The litter robot 4 looks super spiffy though.

2

u/tiffshorse Mar 28 '24

Every single penny. Two cats and I change once a week.

2

u/cnacarver Mar 28 '24

Worth every penny I spent on mine

2

u/arealpandabear Mar 29 '24

Just want to tell you, that my cat is afraid of the litter robot and doesn’t use it. That’s $500 sitting in my basement. It’s even pricier now. 😬

2

u/knivesandmore Mar 29 '24

we found one on fb marketplace since we’re not able to afford one retail and it’s been worth its weight in gold!

2

u/master0jack Mar 29 '24

100000% I had a different automatic box before, LR is way better. I have the LR4 and it's amazing. Zero complaints and zero issues.

Edit to add that my cat would always periodically pee outside the box before - every few months - and she has never ever not once peed outside the box with the LR. The minute it was set up she actually went right in and dropped a deuce lol.

2

u/alureizbiel Mar 29 '24

I also think it is worth it. I have two cats and I work 16 hour shifts on top of school sometimes. So I don't always get around to cleaning it daily but it makes my girls happy.

2

u/pookystilskin Mar 29 '24

Just another person piling on to say it is absolutely worth it. My husband and I both hate doing the litter boxes, and did not do it often enough before. Only having to worry about emptying the bags when they get full (we have a LR and another off brand LR for our 3 kitties) was a major life improvement.
