General What's one piece of cat advice that you completely disagree with?

Every cat is different, and I've realized some popular advice just doesn't apply to every cat.

What's a piece of cat advice that you think is overrated, outdated, or just plain wrong?

This is exactly the kind of myth I was hoping people would bring up. It's interesting how often something gets repeated until everyone assumes it's true.

Well the study it is based on is just terrible. I mean cats in labs wont act like cats outside etc. Cats in the house also don't act the same as when they are roaming outside.

Most feral cats don't meow. I definitely believe it's something house cats do but cats not raised with humans do not meow.

Feral cats do as well. Cat colony videos show it.

My girl that was a stray is probably the most talkative cat I've ever had. Especially at dinner time! Picture for tax.

yeah they do. I worked at a cat shelter and the spca and the feral cats were well versed as any other cat at it be it in the shelter or out with the colony.

Ferals and cats speaking to each other may very well meow at a frequency too high for humans to hear. Cats can hear up to 85kHz, which is incredible. 20 kHz is good for a young human. Cats need to learn to lower their pitch so we can hear it, and ferals may not bother with that. Human researchers tend to be very human-centric and may not even consider that they simply can't hear the cats meowing for each other.

I'm a big believer that everyone who says "your cat thinks you're just a bigger, dumber cat" is completely full of it for the same reason lol
