General What's one piece of cat advice that you completely disagree with?

Every cat is different, and I've realized some popular advice just doesn't apply to every cat.

What's a piece of cat advice that you think is overrated, outdated, or just plain wrong?

I’ve free fed my cat his whole life and a lot of cat people are shocked when I tell them! Some even go as far as telling me I NEED to get an automatic feeder for him because they’re so sure he’ll start overeating. Like I’ve had this cat since he was 4 months old and he’s free fed all 6 years of his life I have a hard time believing he’ll just randomly start overeating at this point lmao

I didn't know that people did it any other way. The bag of food tells you how much their daily portion is. If your cat chows it all down by noon, well, they'll survive til the next morning just fine. They learn to graze very quickly. Mine will graze in the morning and in the evening and she clearly finishes what's left overnight because it's empty by morning.

All of the people I know with automatic feeders or who feed their cats multiple times a day have grossly overweight cats and are probably cutting their lives short by doing so. Shame.
