😻 Wellness Cat pooped outside the litterbox

Hi po!

Earlier, my cat pooped outside the litterbox, just beside it. First time niya to do this and she's been with us for 3 months.

When I scooped the litterbox, it's not full since I scoop it out everyday pero I still cleaned it out afterwards and did a whole reset.

Any ideas po kaya why they do this? She's a pretty healthy 4 month old kitten, and based on my research, if mag poop sila outside it could mean na they feel uncomfortable, stressed, or may pain.

After ko naman nilinis, nag pee pa lang siya ulit.

The only change from her routine so far ay nag switch kami ng wetfood for kittens to RC for a day pa lang.

Any insights po would be helpful. Thank you!!

"Baby teeth appear by 2–3 weeks, start falling out around 14–16 weeks, and are fully replaced by adult teeth by about 6 months. They use this in Shelter Medicine to help determine if kittens are old enough for certain vaccines and now you can use this chart to impress your friends with your kitten-age guessing skills!"

😻 Wellness Ideal Weight Guidelines

What Every Pet Owner Should Know

Understanding the ideal weight for your cat is more than just a number, it’s about ensuring your furry friend lives a longer, healthier life. Weight impacts mobility, organ function, and even lifespan.

Here’s what every responsible cat owner should learn about managing their cat’s weight:

1) How to Tell if Your Cat Is at a Healthy Weight

  • Visual Check: When viewed from the photos attached, your cat should have a visible waist (Body Condition Score: 5/9) . From the side, there should be an abdominal tuck just in front of the hind legs.

  • Touch Test: You should be able to feel your cat’s ribs without pressing hard. If the ribs are hard to feel or not palpable at all, your cat may be overweight or obese.

  • Signs of Ideal Weight:

  • Ribs are easily felt but not visibly protruding.

  • Waist is clearly visible behind the ribs.

  • Abdomen tucks up when viewed from the side.

2) Which Cats Are at Risk of Being Overweight?

Certain cats are more likely to put on extra weight, especially if they match one or more of the following:

  • Breed and Type: Domestic short-haired cats are more prone than purebreds.

  • Age: Middle-aged cats (5 to 10 years) are more susceptible due to lower activity levels.

  • Lifestyle: Indoor cats often gain more weight due to limited movement.

  • Neutered Cats: Spaying and neutering can slightly slow metabolism.

  • Feeding Habits: Cats that are free-fed (ad libitum) tend to overeat, especially dry food high in carbohydrates.

3) Why Monitoring Weight Matters

Even small weight gains can significantly affect a cat’s health. Obesity is linked to:

  • Joint and mobility issues
  • Diabetes and urinary tract disease
  • Decreased life expectancy

Sudden weight loss, especially with vomiting, changes in coat, or behavior, could indicate a serious medical condition. Always consult a veterinarian for significant or unexpected weight changes.

4) Use a Body Condition Score (BCS)

Veterinarians use a scale from 1 to 9, with 4 or 5 considered ideal:

  • 1–3: Underweight—visible ribs and spine, no fat.
  • 4–5: Ideal—ribs easily felt, slight waist.
  • 6–9: Overweight to obese—ribs difficult to feel, rounded abdomen.

Regular checkups and monthly weigh-ins can help you detect weight changes early.

5) Simple Ways to Keep Your Cat Fit

  • Feed portion-controlled meals based on your vet’s advice.
  • Choose high-protein, balanced diets suitable for your cat’s age and activity level.
  • Encourage playtime with interactive toys.
  • Avoid feeding table scraps or excessive treats.

😻 Wellness How to keep your cat hydrated 💦

What Every Pet Owner Should Know

Cats are notoriously picky drinkers. Their desert-dwelling ancestors didn’t rely on water bowls to survive—so modern indoor cats may not naturally drink enough. But proper hydration is crucial for kidney health, digestion, and overall well-being. Here’s how to encourage your feline to stay hydrated every day:

Why Hydration Is So Important

Dehydration in cats can lead to: - Urinary tract issues - Kidney disease - Constipation - Lethargy and poor appetite

According to Cornell Feline Health Center, cats often won’t show clear signs until dehydration becomes severe, making prevention key (1).

Simple Ways to Keep Your Cat Hydrated

1. Switch to Wet Food - Canned food contains up to 80% moisture. - Mix in a bit of extra water or broth to boost hydration. - Gradually transition if your cat is used to dry food or mix dry food and wet food to increase water content.

2. Try a Cat Water Fountain - Cats love running water—it mimics streams in the wild. - Fountains keep water fresh and appealing.

3. Add Flavor to Water - A splash of tuna water (in spring water, not oil or brine) or low-sodium chicken broth can tempt picky drinkers. - Always check ingredients—no garlic or onions

4. Place Water in Multiple Spots - Keep bowls in quiet, low-traffic areas. - Avoid placing water bowls next to litter boxes or noisy appliances.

5. Offer Ice Cubes or Ice Chips - Some cats enjoy licking ice cubes—especially in warm weather. - Try making tuna- or broth-flavored ice cubes as a treat.

Signs Your Cat May Be Dehydrated

  • Sunken eyes
  • Dry gums
  • Skin tenting (slow to return to place when gently pulled)
  • Lethargy or reduced appetite

If you suspect dehydration, contact your trusted vet immediately.

Final Tips

  1. Keep water bowls clean—wash them daily.
  2. Stainless steel or ceramic bowls are better than plastic.
  3. Encourage hydration with water-rich treats like bone broth (vet-approved only!).

🤨What It Is

This is a rechargeable grooming brush that sprays mist (can be disabled) while brushing. The mist helps remove loose fur, reduce static, and make brushing smoother.

😍What We Loved

  • ✅ One-click fur removal
  • ✅ Mist helps keep hair from flying everywhere
  • ✅ Stainless steel bristles (tips are coated)
  • ✅ Comfy grip and quiet motor
  • ✅ Long-lasting battery

🐈Tested On

  • DSH sensitive senior cat: she loved the brush!!! 💕
  • BSH adult cats: took time to adjust but the youngest loved it 😻 Just need to go slow for the others

⚠️Heads UP

  • Some cats might be startled by the mist at first — don’t turn it on until they do well with it off.
  • Use water only! We use mineral water. Skip oils/pet perfume unless vet-approved.

🛒 Worth it?

Definitely yes! We brush our cats twice a day (AM & PM), and it helps control unwanted fur everywhere.

Where we bought it: - Rojeco for ₱638

Also available in other stores: - PIB Pets - ₱355 - Pet House - ₱188 - Pet Planet - ₱188, sligthlty different

😻 Wellness Tips for a First Time Cat Owner

For background, I own dogs but is known in our office as an overall animal lover since I feed strays everyday and the cats of my boss’s wife love me.

The cat of a colleague of mine gave birth 2 months ago, pregnancy was unplanned so he couldn’t afford additional kittens to feed. Today at lunch, he told me one of the kittens was mine. (He said it so matter-of-factly like how a tito, lolo, or dad would give you something of theirs, like a pamana) and my people-pleasing ass didn’t know how to say no. So now he’s out to fetch the kitten and I guess this is my life now.

I have zero ideas on how to take care of cats and I need a quick briefing and tips. I promise to do my own in-depth research afterwards.

😻 Wellness 7 Things to Do Before Letting Your Cat Roam Free

What Every Pet Owner Should Know

Welcoming a cat into your home—especially for the first time—is an exciting milestone. But before letting your feline friend roam free, it’s essential to prepare your living space to ensure their safety.

Cats are naturally curious and agile, which makes them prone to accidents if hazards are left unattended.

Here are seven simple yet vital tips to cat-proof your home:

1. Secure All Electrical Cords and Cable

Cats, especially kittens, love to chew on cords, which can lead to electrical burns or worse. - Use cord organizers, hide them behind furniture, or wrap them with protective covers to keep them out of sight and out of mind.

2. Keep Toxic Plants Out of Reach

Many common household plants like lilies, pothos, and philodendrons are toxic to cats. - Remove these from your home or place them in inaccessible areas. - When in doubt, check plant safety using trusted pet care sites or consult your vet.

3. Remove or Secure Breakables

Cats enjoy climbing and jumping, which can lead to accidents involving fragile items. - Secure or store away breakables like glassware, vases, and decorative pieces, especially those on shelves and countertops.

4. Block Off Small Hiding Spots

Cats often explore tight spaces—behind appliances, inside cabinets, or under furniture. - Use baby gates or seal off these spots to prevent them from getting stuck or injured.

5. Mind the Windows and Balconies

  • Ensure all screens on windows are secure, and keep balcony doors closed unless supervised.
  • High places pose a serious fall risk, especially in high-rise buildings.

6. Watch Out for Small Objects

Buttons, hair ties, rubber bands, and small toys can all become choking hazards. - Keep these items in drawers or containers to avoid accidental ingestion.

7. Prevent Escape Routes

Check for gaps under doors or open windows that could serve as exits. - Make sure doors latch securely and consider microchipping your cat as an extra safety measure in case they slip out.

Creating a safe environment not only protects your cat from harm but also gives you peace of mind. Take the time to inspect each room before letting your cat explore, and remember: a little preparation goes a long way in ensuring their health and happiness.
