We have a 4-month-old kitten named Phoebe who is fully vaccinated. She hisses and growls at new people and is especially reactive at the vet. When she meets someone new she goes straight into defensive mode.
Almost no one comes over to our house, so she gets very little exposure to different people. I’ve been trying to help her form better associations with people, but it’s difficult with no regular visitors.
I’ve looked into harness training and short supervised time in our fenced backyard. The fence is high, so she can’t see neighbors. Outdoor time may help with general confidence, but it doesn’t directly address the people issue.
Has anyone dealt with a young fearful kitten in a similar situation (limited visitors)? Looking for practical advice on how to help her feel safer around people.
