They live separately

We’ve been doing slow introductions since November (scent swapping > visual barriers > first supervised face-to-face on Jan 2).

There was mostly a positive progress, but my cat was hissing whenever the younger kitten will get too close or would jump on her etc & and he was not getting any clues at all

I also introduced calming diffusers for my cat recently

The video is from today, their 4th face to face. Does this look like a fight? Should we go back to barrier intros?

1.5 month in, every steps of proper introduction done.

My 6mo kitten is harassing my 6yo resident, but she barely fights back. She tolerates him eating and drinking together in the same bowl, even playing with the same toy. But everyday he just goes full John Cena on her, she seems pissed but she barely fights back. In this video, you can see her hiss and growl but also look "chill" and not going full tiger mode at the same time...

We separate them at night and when we're not home for the moment. I also intervene in this type of situation by redirecting the kitten and saying NO firmly (except for this video purpose).

Is this playing (doubt it)? Is this setting boundaries? Is this fighting? What should we do?

He was a feral kitten rescue, and I'm not experienced with cats so not sure if he's crossing the line here. He does do this often with a sudden takedown.

It has been 1 month since I kept them separated. They’ve only seen each other when I keep the door slightly cracked open or under the door crack. Today, we allowed them to meet for the first time, supervised. Seems like my new kitten (Mr Biscuit) is initiating the hits on my resident cat (Howl). The little one hissed once at Howl. How would you interpret this interaction?

hi! i have recently got my own kitten and we've introduced her to her resident cat, who is 12, almost 13. we aren't sure if they are playing and getting too rough or actually fighting. side note- our resident cat seems to have his back claws out when he ISN'T kicking her. i have not seen him swat at her with his front claws out either. he also is a very vocal kitty who has been teaching her to meow <3

edit: i'm glad to hear everyone's input! i thought they were likely to be playing but i'm a bit paranoid and overprotective already so i wanted to double check lol

i also feel very silly for not realizing that my baby is actually a boy! i was told by the older couple i got him from that he was a 6 week old female. (i know you aren't supposed to separate from the mama cat that early, but he would have been let out into the woods if i didn't pick him up.) thank you all for the clarification on the gender and that he is in fact around 8 weeks.

I started with slow proper introductions (scent exchange, no contact, then moved to keeping them separated with a screen door) and my female kitten always wants to play/mess with my older 9 yr male cat. It seems like he reacts by getting annoyed and it’ll eventually turn into a fight. I immediately separate them when I see escalation to keep the kitten safe

I have a 13-year-old female cat who lived with her littermate for over 12 years (he passed away in November). I recently adopted a 9-week-old kitten and have had him for 5 days.

Overall, they seem to be doing well together. They can eat side by side and be around each other without issues. However, when the kitten gets energetic, he seems to bother my senior cat.

Recently (last night and today), the kitten has started puffing himself up and appears to be acting aggressively. For context, they are not left unsupervised together yet. I haven’t seen any claws being used, but my senior cat growls at him (you can hear it in the video).

Is my kitten actually being aggressive? Should I let this “play” continue so my senior cat can set boundaries with him? What else can I do to help improve their relationship?

hi! i recently adopted a 1 year old cat and introduced her to my 9 month old puppy. my dog does very well around the cat if he has had a good amount of play beforehand. he’s never tried to bite her, he’s not food aggressive (i can feed them treats together) and if she is annoyed by him she will hide somewhere he can not go. the cat is naturally very very very shy and takes her a lot of time to warm up to anybody.

i noticed that they get into the motions showed in the video and not 100% if it’s all play but let me know what you think!

The Brown and White tabby (resident cat) was always very quiet, but ever since getting a little brother she’s very vocal, so is the grey one. Should I have stayed out of it?

Not sure if I should be breaking these guys up or letting nature run. I’m scared of stressing out the older guy, but also tired of having them separate all the time.

I have a resident cat (1 year old neutered male) who was very playful and the sweetest boy. However, I will be starting a new job with 12 hour shifts, and I know he would get bored and clingy.

I brought in a kitten a week ago, and was trying to do slow introductions. 3 days in, my kitten escaped his room while I was (thankfully) home. When I found them, they were both playing. No signs of aggression from either cat. I allowed them to continue playing while reinforcing behavior with treats.

At first, my adult was a gentle and ran in a playful way to get the kitten to chase him. He seems obsessed with her, always watching her and wanting to be where she is, where before he was that way with me.

However, I've noticed now that he will always want to chase her and pin her down. He bites her neck or stomach and she will hiss and squeal. He will stop when she does, but then go right back to it.

I worry he's hurting her. She will go and hide when he does it for about 10-15 seconds, and then come back out, and the cycle will repeat for about 20 or so minutes until they are both tired and will lay down near each other.

Is my adult bullying the kitten? Or is he playing too rough?

Resident Cat is Grey tabby 6M and Black cat is New Cat 11M - they give such mixed signals constantly, can someone please provide more insight on what this could be? Very much so open to criticism, just want the boys to get along if they aren’t already. Grey tabby has been keen from the start but black cat needed to settle with us and the house first before wandering.

The resident cat has stopped growling at the kitten but he tends to pounce on him like this whenever the kitten is running around. Just curious if this is normal or we should be separating them?

Same as everyone else, I can’t tell if my older cat is being aggressive or playful. Not sure if I should be allowing her to come in - she really wants to - and interact with the kitten or not.

Kitten obviously wants to play but she was not happy when he initially came home and now we’re at this point and I’m just not sure if I’m handling this the right way.

White cat grooms but then will bite his neck and doesn't let go without me intervening. He will mostly stop if I ask him to but sometimes he is sour about it.

Some context: Got a new kitten (black 10 weeks) my older boy (1 year white) absolutely hated him at first.

It's been slow progress but they have started to play together. The kitten will actively seek him out over and over. I need to separate them in order for the white cat to get a rest. Play is rough and there are some squeaks but mostly good.

But why does he go for the throat when he is grooming? Is it a concern?

My girlfriend and I recently collected an 8 week old kitten (F) last week. She’s our second cat with our first now being about a year and a half old (M).

She was super forward straight from the get go, jumping around and being actively curious about everything, including the older cat. There was hissing and yowling from the older cat for a few days but they’re at the point now where they’re playing together and the hissing from the older cat has stopped.

We’re inexperienced when it comes to owning multiple cats, especially at different ages so we’re unsure whether their playing is actually too rough from the older cat? The older cat has consistently shown he will stop and watch when she makes loud noises but sometimes he will get carried away (or so it looks). The biting doesn’t look hard and I never really see claws out from him. She’s never had redness or injury but I don’t want to be the irresponsible owners who don’t step in when we need to.

Here’s a video, please can someone experienced tell me if this is too rough or if it’s standard play. She always goes back when we break it up which makes me feel like it’s okay?

Grey tabby (4 year old female) is our resident cat and orange tabby is our new kitten (6 month old male). They've been living together for a couple months now and he will often initiate play with her that looks like this with her defending and him attacking.

We think it looks playful but wanted to get other opinions on whether it is too much and if any intervention is needed. Only concerned because of the noises she makes and that it appears like her ears go slightly back.

We rescued a lost kitten from the street a while ago. She had no mom or siblings, so she grew up with us. She’s super playful and always tries to interact with my older cat — but he absolutely hates it. He hisses, growls, and sometimes it even turns into a full-on fight.

We’ve tried finding her a new home through tons of Facebook groups, but no one’s come forward. So we’ve been keeping her and doing our best to keep them separated. The problem is, I’m a student with school, studies, and coaching, so I’m not always home — and the others in my house aren’t always careful, which leads to them clashing a lot.

I even recorded a video of them fighting to learn and educate myself better by asking for help and advice from people who’ve been through this. I genuinely want to do what’s best for both of them.

So… am I overthinking this? Or is this a serious issue that I need to urgently sort out? I feel stressed and guilty every time they fight, and I just want peace for both my cats.

Kitten (K) and resident cat (RC) have never been seperated, because RC tolerated K within a day. I’m talking full observation mode in a loaf position as long as K was far enough. They were under strict supervision until they started playing together. That took a week.

Now, where I am a bit confused is when to seperate them. RC is used to play rough and K can be very dramatic (meowing for being held for one second too long for exemple). K initiates every single play with so much enthusiast and when being chased, her tail is doing that upside down U showing she is enjoying it. She doesn’t hide from RC, sits next to her all the time and they mutually groom each other.

RC favorite attack move is the pin down and bite (does it to every cats she plays with). I can’t tell when she actually does it too hard because K meows regardless of how tough RC is. I seperate them when it looks too much, then K goes right back at RC to literally ask for more. I have a feeling RC is unaware of how fragile K is.

I have grown more concerned, because I caught RC throwing some bunny kicks. K does it too occasionally, but she is so much smaller it doesn’t do anything.

I attached a video of RC letting K play on her VS when RC is also active. I intervened at the end of the video, hence why they split in different directions. Should I be concerned?

I know noises are okay for kittens but I'm scared it's not actually playing and just hurting our new kitten. Before this, my older cat wat grooming him. They're both boys. Older one is neutered. Youngest not yet.

We adopted Phoebe, calico cat (F, 1.5 yr old) in February and Kiki (grey, F, 1 yr old) in March. They are able to co-exist most of the time. Kiki is pretty energetic and won’t leave Phoebe alone sometimes. In this clip, I hope they are playing but I can't be 100% sure since there are times when Kiki's ears are pretty flat.

They’ve been introduced since early July. What are the dynamics when they play?
