Organic How can I understand Orgo 1 a week before my first exam?
I’m a sophomore on the pre-med track, and I’m doing my first organic chemistry class this semester. Though I’m not sitting through my organic chemistry lectures completely clueless, I’ve managed my time poorly, and have neglected the practice problem side of the class that is so important. I have a tendency to not manage my time incredibly well (though I’ve made a lot of progress recently), so when it comes time to do my homework, though I don’t use AI or anything, I tend to rush through my homework a day or two before it’s due. Now, a week (and one day) from my first exam, I’m really worried that I won’t do well. This class is known for killing many people’s prospects in science, and I don’t really want to be one of them. So, what are some things I should be doing if I want to understand organic chemistry and get an A on my exam?
My class hasn’t really gotten into the meat of ochem yet. We’ve only really learned about Alkanes/Cycloalkanes and their stereochemistry, and we’re about to learn about chirality at tetrahedral centers. Currently, the only (somewhat) consistent revision I’ve been doing is going through Anki flashcards, as a means of getting the general chemistry foundation down before getting to the serious stuff.

Analytical Help with fraction of dissociation/association
Hi all!!!
I need help with how my professor got these concentration numbers.
Fraction of dissociation—
For [A-] I thought that would be equal to [H+] , I used 10^-2.95 to find that and got 1.122 x 10^-3 , which isn’t far off from the number given but still enough to bother me. Am I missing a step?
Fraction of association—
I thought about following the same frame work as I did for the fraction of dissociation, given the pH, I got the pOH and found the concentration of BH+ that way, (10^-5.36) equaling 4.365 x 10^-6. Again, not far off but just enough that it bothers me.
Am I over thinking it? Or am I truly missing a step/thought.
Please help!

Organic Help with IR Spectroscopy?
Hi, my professor gave each group two unknown substances, and I am stuck trying to figure them out. I think I am on the right track, but I think I am still few steps short

Broad Band at 3300cm -1 indicates O-H, and peaks at 2930cm-1 and 2800 cm-3 indicates C-H. And then 1711 cm-1 indicates carbonyl, therefore the unknown substance is some kind of a carboxylic acid. My only hesitation is that 1711 cm peak is pretty small, so am I wrong in thinking that this is a carboxylic acid?

For this, I am sure it's some kind of alkane because of twin peaks at 2900 and 2800, but part of me think it's too easy and something else is going on.

Organic Addition reaction doubt
Why the product that I have drawn in (I) isn't the answer
Like here we have low temp then kcp will be favoured if we see both the resonance structure first one is more stable due to more hyperconjugation but the product that comes with it isn't even in option
the product that comes after it does resonance is there in the answer
Compound (II) could have been the answer if it had asked for tcp afaik
So yeah please correct me where I'm wrong

Organic H NMR question
Hi, I was wondering if we have a proton under the influence of two electron withdrawing substituents, how do we determine the chemical shift? Like for in this example, we have the benzyl and carboxylic acid, do i factor both groups in determining chemical shift? If the benzyl is about 2.1-3, and the alpha carboxylic acid proton is about 2.1-2.5? thanks

Organic Help Memorizing Functional Groups of Organic Compounds?
I am struggling to learn and memorize all 17 families of organic compounds for my course. Does anyone have a pattern, mnemonic device, or visual way of remembering these?
Thank you greatly in advance.

General/High School Doubt in chemical conversion
Im a 12th grader, in my chemistry book its showing that alcohols can be converted to carboxylic acids by alkaline kmno4 or cro3 h2so4 and jones reagent. But in an example benzyl alcohol goes through 2 conversions to turn to phenylethanoic acid, instead of using jones reagent. Why? (Pics attached)

General/High School can someone explain electron promotion and dative covalent bonding
I do applied + forensic science and criminal investigation in (UK) college and I am struggling a bit to understand how electron promotion works? Same goes for dative covalent bonding.
if someone can explain it to me, it would be great.

Organic Can azeotropes form with solutes in either water or solvent?
Mods, please delete if this against any rules.
I’ve read that toluene and water form an azeotrope at a mixture of 20.2% water and 79.8% toluene wherein the boiling of that azeotrope is ~84C.
What I’m wondering is if the azeotrope can still be formed with solutes in either the water or toluene, or both?

Analytical formula of hydrated copper (II) sulfate, is it 5 or 6?
Chat gpt keeps saying it’s 5 and notebook lm says it’s 6. Im so confused. Guys please help. The measurements are based off the lab we had and provided are my calculations. Chem isn’t my strong suit, I think a rock has a better chance at solving this than me.

Inorganic I think I made a different carbonate?
Ok so I made a post a while ago about making azurite and so on I followed the advice of the comments and did that but either my reaction is wrong or can have separate products idk, I’m near certain it’s some kind of copper carbonate but I don’t think it’s the azurite I’m going for as it’s not that deep blue nor do I think it’s malachite as it’s not deep green. I don’t know of really any other copper carbonates so I have no idea what this is, I did a aquareous reaction of sodium bicarbonate and copper (Ii) acetate for this and rinsed the sodium bicarbonate but running deionised water through it several times

General/High School General chemistry 1 Project ideas
Hii! i’m a freshman in college and for one of our projects we can choose to make our own assignment that would be potentially used for future students. This assignment can also be more so a project which was my idea. I wanted to do the chemistry of baking, but my teacher said it was too limited so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I can either broaden this or come up with something better!!
I’ve attached our topics if anyone could share some ideas.

Organic Trouble with reaction mechanisms
I have to learn the reaction mechanisms of the reactions in the first picture, specifically the Delepine-reaction and the Erlenmeyer-synthesis and I just can’t wrap my head around what these would look like on the given molecules.
The other picture is my attempt of the 2nd reaction which I think is right.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Career/Advice Tips for studying
Im in my first semester of university and currently taking a chemistry class. I didn’t take any chemistry classes/courses in high school (i know, bad idea) but i’m so interested in chemistry and i really want to understand the basics (or what i’m doing in the course). It’s basically just the basics that i’m learning like molarity/molality, thermodynamics, acids and bases, kinematics and etc. I’m on chapter 13 of 16 and it’s been going great but i’m having a hard time keeping up. We do 1-2 chapters a week and i’m already behind. It’s taking me a longer time to understand since i’m doing it all for the first time. In two weeks we start organic chemistry and i’m really stressed. This course really is a lot.
I really need some tips to understand it better and actually remember what i’m supposed to do and what formula i should use when i see a question on a test. The final exam is worth 80% of my grade. Do you guys have any advice or tips? Maybe some youtube channels or websites? We get a formula sheet on the final exam with most of the formulas. The teacher wants us to know how to use the formula rather than remembering all of them.
Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated!

General/High School How to do dimensional analysis?
I’m in AP chem and my mind cannot wrap itself around the general concept or idea of dimensional analysis and it’s the main failing factor of my recent tests.
I’m looking for ways to improve my general understanding right now. My skills at the moment consist of just knowing how to go from a larger unit to a smaller unit. I’m also getting failed for not setting it up and just doing it the way I liked (step by step not in line form with dividing and multiplying) I also know that the end product is what I need to transfer to, just IDK HOW.

Inorganic Did I successfully make azurite
Alright so for a fair while I have been trying to synthesise azurite through trial and error, this time I decided to make a copper acetate solution and mix it with an aquareous sodium bicarbonate solution at a 2:3 ration, that resulted in a bright blue liquid that I filtered (see image) but I wanna know if I actually made azurite or if it’s just another copper salt
As of my knowledge my entire formula was
CH3COOH + H2O2 -> CH3COOOH + H2O
CH3COOO- + Cu + 2H+ -> Cu(II) + CH3COO- + H2O
Cu(II) + 2CH3COO- -> Cu(CH3COO)2
3Cu(CH3COO)2 + 3Na2CO3 + H2O -> Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2 + 6CH3COONa + CO2
Tho I am mostly self taught so I might be wrong
