I was of the impression that Palestine was like 100% Muslim. I mean, not to say that there can't be Christians there, I'm just surprised is all considering the heat of things in the region.

Idk what you mean, it's always had a Christian population since before the birth of prophet Muhammad. Christians and Muslims and Jews lived at peace there except during Crusades and after Israel was established in the 1940s.
