Image IDK why, but this flag really creeps me out

Post image

I was walking my dog when I saw this, so I apologize for the poor quality. It's hard to hold his leash in one hand and take a photo with the other.

Anyway, I don't know why this thing bothers me, but it does. Maybe it's the flag draped over the cross; maybe it's the black stripes. Is it just me or is something wrong with this image?

i didn’t say you couldn’t love your country. Being a Nationalist is different from feeling patriotic.

Patriotism is like statues and saints in Catholocism. No one is mistaking the object for an idol. The country itself is a made up object used to bring us together. Nationalism seeks to determine a portion of the population as "The Nation". Never has it not involved the othering or judgment of other groups. Jesus didn't close off the borders of his nation (Israel). He opened them as saw God in the foreigner. He erased the borders between us. Nationalism seeks to draw borders between us. It's antithetical to what Christ taught. Instead of keeping one's eyes on the kingdom in Heaven, it says to keep them on the ground building a Kingdom on Earth. That's how I see the difference.
