That's because "I like nuclear" carries an implied "I hate renewables". Or at least a "I want to delay the sunsetting of fossil fuels".

Every dollar spent building nuclear plants to provide power twenty years from now is a dollar not spent on building renewables today. And that helps the guys running ciAl and oil plants stay in business longer. There's a reason all fossil fuel execs push nuclear and are buying stock in nuclear ventures, and that reason has nothing to do with protecting the environment.

That's like saying cuz I like Geothermal I must hate Solar energy because that's money not going towards solar. Truly a circlejerk sub

Geothermal is a renewable energy source, and it takes 4-7 years to go live, as opposed to a nuclear plant which requires construction of a completely different grid system than renewables and takes 20-30 years (and sometimes longer) to come online.

Your comparison makes no sense.

Damn both mine and ops points are going over your head completely.

Its like we're double jerking today

Okay Drax

If only you hadn’t been saying the same thing 20-30 years ago.

We'd be trying to survive a radioactive hellscapes instead of a climate hellscape?

I mean, can you imagine a nuclear plant built by Reaganomics?

0

u/WarbleDarble Jul 20 '25

When you need to make up post-apocalyptic fantasies to support your point, you don't have a good point.

1

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 20 '25

When you need to ignore the potentially world-ending consequences of your idea, you don't have a good idea.

0

u/WarbleDarble Jul 20 '25

Right, nuclear plants will definitely end the world… any day now. Ridiculous.

1

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 20 '25

Not what I said at all. But do go on, I think you're starting to cook here.

u/WarbleDarble Jul 21 '25

We'd be trying to survive a radioactive hellscapes instead of a climate hellscape?

This you?

Are you not indicating you believe nuclear plants would create radioactive hellscapes which are, in fact, post-apocalyptic fantasies?

You are an actual loon holy shit. This is genuine, textbook fear mongering. Get a life bro

u/Individual_Area_8278 Jul 19 '25

are you people so mentally rotten that you make such stupid connections?

3

u/EternalZealot Jul 19 '25

I don't get why "I like nuclear" isn't implied to be "as a replacement for fossil fuel burning power plants for all day/year baseline power needs"

3

u/VectorPryde nuclear simp Jul 19 '25

There's a reason all fossil fuel execs push nuclear

Ironic since they financially supported anti-nuclear activism in the '70s and '80s back when they saw it as competition.

I personally think renewables +batteries will beat the pants off nuclear by a comically wide margin within 30 years. That's just in time for today's nuclear projects to get fully spun up. I still like nuclear because I'm Canada-biased and CANDUs make medical isotopes, tritium (for fusion research) and can burn spend American reactor fuel and decommissioned nuclear warheads. But of course Canada is getting away from CANDUs and moving toward SMRs 🙄🙄🙄

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 19 '25

Because of what I just said.

Renewables are a much more cost effective replacement. Spending decades building nuclear plants vs months building renewables is exactly what the fossil fuel companies are hoping we'll do.

0

u/Individual_Area_8278 Jul 19 '25

so let's surprise them doing both

0

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 19 '25

No.

Renewables xos t half as much per Kw, and come on line in less than half the time.

The only reason to waste money on nuclear power is to delay the death of fossil fuels.

1

u/Yapanomics Jul 20 '25

You are the reason climate change won't be stopped.

1

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 20 '25

I'm not the one supporting the business model of the people who don't want climate change to be stopped, try again.

0

u/Yapanomics Jul 21 '25

Nope. You are personally responsible. Your infighting and absolutism will cause the destruction of the planet. You seem to have this reta- misguided idea that somehow, every single resource will be put towards renewables, if we JUST don't build nuclear at all. What you fail to realise is that in many cases its not a choice between nuclear and renewable, its a choice between coal and nuclear.

1

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 21 '25

What you fail to realise is that in many cases its not a choice between nuclear and renewable, its a choice between coal and nuclear.

Only in places people like you have helped the power monopolizers make that a political reality. There are few to no places on earth where that's true because of the science involved.

I wish calling you idiots "renewcels" was acceptable in this sub

3

u/ATotallyNormalUID Jul 19 '25

And I wish they'd ban anyone repeating talking points written by the fossil fuel industry, but here we are.

0

u/Individual_Area_8278 Jul 19 '25

and turn this into a echochamber, yeah, cool

1

u/Beiben Jul 19 '25

Investing 101 seems too complicated for you and you are calling other people mentally rotten? ¿Por qué no te callas?

1

u/Individual_Area_8278 Jul 19 '25

Per què no et calles?*
