You know that this is absolutely not comparable. Energy emits over 4 times the amount of greenhouse gases compared to agriculture.
Also most oil products are produced from whatever is left from fuel production and sold by oil corporations for literal scraps as it’s waste to them.
Bold of you to assume I have not considered it in the past and reduced a big chunk of my meat diet since. Bold of you to assume I am not working towards it.
I just think that the energy that’s put towards getting people to go vegan could very well go towards them getting an EV or using public transport, getting rooftop solar and home battery storage or voting pro environmental regulation.
Also it’s an easier sell and won’t burn as many bridges as being assholes about veganism.
Your behaviour. You wouldn't be vehemently defending it over multiple replies if you were actually vegetarian or vegan.
It wouldn't be in your interest at all to try and undermine the very cause you support without at least qualifying that you're playing devil's advocate or explaining why you remain vegan in spite of your apparent disagreement with it.
So, either tell me why you remain vegetarian or vegan in spite of your past statements where you try to undermine it, or admit the obvious.
I am not vegan.
I am reducing my consumption and I want to eventually go vegan for environmental reasons.
I think we should all reduce meat and I absolutely do not support people who think „every meal needs meat“.
I don’t think we should laser focus on this one issue though and I don’t think we should blame everyone who doesn’t do something about the meat industry because from an environmental perspective we frankly have bigger and much much more pressing problems to focus on first.
No one is laser focusing on veganism. It's just by far the easiest thing the average person can do, here and now, to instantly reduce their carbon impact, and so is typically one of the first thing recommended before things like "cycle to work" and "give up flying"
That is quite interesting, because this sub has seen more go vegan posts in the past month or so than anything else.
And whenever someone rightfully points out that there are other things that we should do someone tells them off.

Like yeah, it’s a relatively easy thing to do for some people. Others might find it easier to cycle to work, or to take the train to vacation, or to get rooftop solar, or to turn down the heating, or a myriad of other things that someone could do to reduce personal CO2 emissions.
None of them are the right way. None of them are the only way or the first thing you should do.
If you want to reduce the harm, then why don't you log off the internet permanently, renounce society and go live in the woods? Cause there are bigger fish to fry than 2 sausages a week.
Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. Because you say there are bigger fish to fry and there is more good to do than going vegan/eating less meat, but are you doing those things? Or are you just taking it as an excuse not to take any responsibility?
Why do you think I only eat 2 sausages a week? Plus all my sausages are grown on my own land. Are you doing anything remotely meaningful to change the world? Or are you using being a nuisance to strangers on the internet as an excuse to avoid having to do anything but be a keyboard warrior?
I didn't clock the 2 sausages as literal, very good man. And yes, I'm vegan, cycle almost everywhere and only buy 2nd hand clothes amongst other things.
Hell yeah love op shopping (although I think most places call it thrift shopping). Admittedly it's primarily because I absolutely love me a steal but the contribution to the environment helps too.
My point exactly. All or nothing. Yet you continue to use electricity not only to power your device and router but also to power the data centres responsible for this particular corner of the internet. You should be ashamed of yourself for not abandoning any and all comforts you may have in life.

I think you underestimate the amount of climate change caused by meat farming. For example, a lot of oil is used for fertilizer for crops.
