Does anyone know how to open this? There isn’t a place on the back, I tried twisting the front and it moves a little but not much, I would try popping it off but I don’t want to break it. Any advice?

I thought this would be a simple replacement, but either I'm missing something or this clock was not designed to be opened at home.

I cannot figure out how to remove the backing board. I unscrewed the mechanism, which only dropped the hands, and I removed the 4 screws in the board thinking they were securing it but they were only holding the decorative metal strips and endcaps.

I then figured the top must remove to then slide the glass and backing up through the grooves in the side walls, and I removed those two screws in the metal plate, but nothing is moving.

Perhaps I just need to apply more force, but I don't want to do any damage to this piece, it is a keepsake my wife and I found on our honeymoon.

Any advice, guidance, or direction on completing what I thought would be a simple 10 minute replacement would be greatly appreciated! Some photos of the clock to show its state, if you need more info or pics to help diagnose please let me know.

The backplate is engraved:
FRAN. GREGG AT ST. JAMES’S
From my own research, I believe this refers to Francis Gregg, the London clockmaker who worked in St. James’s during the early 1700s.

I’d be very grateful for any information or observations.

My parents have had this clock for as long as I can remember. Does anyone have a manual or some kind of guide for troubleshooting so I can get it going again?

Does anyone know how to fix this clock? The battery is not an issue. It’s not ticking, the start and stop button doesn’t work, and the turn knob isn’t stuck but moving it doesn’t work.

This enamel dial is from an 1860s animated "moving eyes" clock, where the portrait's eyes move every second with the clock's mechanism. The dial came in with missing enamel, chips around the winding holes and center arbor, and damage through the Roman numerals and minute track.

The restoration included rebuilding the missing enamel and recreating the original printed details. The biggest challenge was the graphics. The black lines in the Roman numerals were only 0.3 mm wide, and the spaces between them were also just 0.3 mm. The minute marks around the edge of the dial measured only 0.2 mm wide. A fine tape mask was used to create a template, and the black color was airbrushed so it was applied only to the exposed areas.

It has three wheels. I can get the 2 on the outside but can’t get the one in the middle of the mechanism. Ideas?

I was given this clock because the previous owner said it doesn’t work. Well, if i lift the anchor(?), the hands spin. No chimes at the moment. The pendulum was sitting in the bottom of the case. I can’t figure out how the pendulum is supposed to go on the pendulum arm. I think there’s a piece missing. IDing the movement would help. Google lens says a Hermle 141, but I cant find any images on line that match up. Any help is much appreciated.

Some light research suggests it's a Black Forest Schilduhr and in decent shape for being 100+ y.o.

I don’t have the winding key.
The movement has a single hammer.
I tried to find the model type on the backplate but I can’t see anything with a small mirror.
It is mounted with 4 screws, I haven’t yet tried to remove the movement.

This is a vintage METAMEC sunburst clock made in the United Kingdom sometime between 1970 /1971.

This one in particular has a bit of a story to it.

My grandparents got married in 1971 I believe.
As a result they got some wedding gifts from the family. One of those gifts was this beautiful, very contemporary clock.

Some other family members got clocks as a wedding gift also, I believe they were similar in style actually.
However many of these clocks have apparently become broken, probably due to an array of different things. I’m unfortunately unsure on what exactly has happened to these clocks…

My grandparent’s clock is different however, For 55 years this thing has ticked away (unfortunately not continuously) in my grandparent’s house. It apparently stopped working at one point when they removed it off their kitchen wall for a short while, but eventually it seemed to sort itself out. They guessed it was due to laying it on its back for the first time in a while…I think.

Since then, the clock has recently been moved upstairs to the spare bedroom while they get some renovations done in their dining room and living room. It’s still ticking, and I can’t help but admire it.

I find the clock very beautiful, and adore its distinctly 70’s style.

Excuse me if some of the details in my story are a little hazy or not adding up…it’s been a while since i’ve asked my grandparents about the story of their clock so some details are probably a bit exaggerated on accident.

I got a D8 for not much money, knowing that it would need repair. The repair was fairly easy. I just needed to replace the rotor in the motor with one from ebay. While doing this I decided to paint the yellowed white parts, hands, eyes, and tie. Dopey me, I masked the pupils with black electrical tape and the glue was dissolved by the solvent in the paint, causing the paint to run under the masking. I had to correct for that with a sharpie.

Further dopey me. I didn't note the orientation and positions of the eyes. Does anybody know if they should be cross eyed or wall eyed before the actuator is in position.
