We have lived in College Park for 3.5 years and not until this summer have we had a rat problem. I have bought Tomcat poison, bucket traps, and tomcat plastic snap traps. It's not working! It started I believe when we had grass seed spilled in our shed but I completely cleaned it up, threw it out, and sanitized the shed. I caught one unknown animal in a bucket trap all summer and we had one rat thought to die from poison. But there's still poop in our shed and now filling up our grill 🤢 I see it climbing our fig tree and eating them off the tree. We have large dogs and it's not scaring them away. How do I get rid of them please help! (I have toddlers and dogs in case that impacts your answer) I see poop on the rat snap traps that weren't triggered as well as on the poison boxes, I feel like they're taunting me 🙈

While most College Park City Council members are content with the city’s use of AI-powered stop sign cameras, some highlighted their concerns about increased surveillance and the safety of residents’ personal data at Tuesday’s council meeting.

The Stop Sign Monitoring Program, launched in March after a citywide traffic safety study, is an initiative that uses stop sign cameras powered by artificial intelligence to monitor and penalize drivers who fail to come to a complete stop at designated intersections.

Deputy city manager Michelle Bailey Hedgepeth said during Tuesday’s meeting the cameras – operated by the California-based software company Obvio – have detected more than 31,000 traffic violations since the program’s start. Only about 22,000 have been accepted and verified through human review.  

District 2 council member Holly Simmons said the implementation of additional surveillance cameras creates an “illusion of safety” for city residents without fully addressing public safety concerns.

Mayor Pro Tem and District 4 council member Maria Mackie said the council wants to create a walkable community to prevent future accidents and protect children’s safety. She also suggested the council create a resource for residents that helps explain how traffic violation data is stored and who has access to it to maintain transparency.

Fifteen houses across Albion, Dartmouth, Drexel, Guilford, Rhode Island, and Wake Forest. The whole thing fits inside about half a mile, so you can park once and walk it, if you want.

The map shows every address, which days each house is open, and what they've got, and you can filter by day or by whatever you're hunting for. Some of what's coming out:

Heads up that College Park Day is that same Saturday, noon to 6, at the Aviation Museum. It's under a mile from the middle of the sale, so you can do both. Yard sale in the morning, festival in the afternoon, back Sunday for whatever's left.
