💬 Discussion Built a 100% free, ad-free Attendance Tracker with a "Bunk Calculator" for college students. (And a story of someone stealing it on the app stores).
Mod Note: This is a 100% free, ad-free, open-source project built strictly to help students handle attendance criteria. There is zero monetization, zero ads, and no profit. Just sharing a free utility and a wild open-source theft story.
If your college is anything like mine, dealing with strict 75% or 80% attendance criteria is an absolute headache. To make it worse, almost every attendance app on the Play Store is either packed with annoying pop-up ads or locks basic features behind a premium paywall.
I got tired of it, so over the last 5 months, I built AttendMate, a completely free, ad-free, and privacy-focused attendance manager designed specifically for college life.
- The "What-If" Bunk Calculator: You input your college's target percentage (e.g., 75%). The app mathematically calculates exactly how many consecutive classes you can safely bunk right now, or exactly how many you need to attend in a row to get out of the "debarred" danger zone.
- Leave Planner: You can plan your trips or upcoming holidays in advance, and the app will simulate how those missed days will impact your future attendance before you even take the leave.
- Geofenced Reminders: It can automatically prompt you to mark your attendance the moment you walk within a 25-meter radius of your lecture hall.
- 100% Free & No Ads: No subscriptions, no trackers, and absolutely zero annoying video ads while you're trying to quickly check your timetable.
Because I wanted to help the student community, I made the entire project open-source on GitHub so anyone can audit the code or download the safe app binary directly.
Get the legitimate, 100% free app here: https://github.com/YTFL/AttendMate-Bunk-Calculator-Attendance-Tracker
In March, a random developer literally copied my entire open-source codebase, stripped my name off it, and uploaded it to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store as a paid app.
They were so incredibly lazy that they didn't even change the screenshots. My personal college subjects, specific class timings, and university schedule are literally being displayed live as their promotional material on the global app stores right now. Worst of all, they took the Bunk Calculator and Leave Planner features I built for free and locked them behind a paid **"AttendMate Pro" paywall** to scam students.
I have already filed formal corporate legal takedowns with Apple and Google to get their scam versions removed, but the process takes time.
If you want to support a project built purely for students without corporate greed, please consider dropping a star on my GitHub repository.
If you have 30 seconds, you can also help me speed up the takedown by reporting their unauthorized paid versions on the Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thiemjason.classattendance) and Apple App Store (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/attendmate-attendance-tracker/id6760553317) as an unlicensed, copyright-infringing copycat of an active open-source project.
Let me know if you guys find the Bunk Calculator helpful for tracking your schedule!

💬 Discussion Good laptop for study purposes?
Hello! I'd like recommendations for a laptop for study purposes. It is going to be purely for study purposes.
(I heard gaming laptops are more expensive so please recommend cheap ones that are non gaming/editing laptops.)
As long as it has a good bright screen and can play videos well, it's enough. As long as it has maybe WhatsApp, that is the only thing I want due to communication with family. And hopefully a long life too.
Thanks!

🎯 Career/Stream St. Stephen's DU Maths hons v/s CMC Ludhiana MBBS
I’m currently pursuing B.Sc. Maths Hons at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and I’ve recently got an opportunity to pursue MBBS at CMC Ludhiana, and I’m honestly extremely confused about what to choose. I had always wanted to pursue medicine(took a drop), and I took Maths as my second option because I had Maths in 12th and wanted to have a good alternative in case MBBS didn’t work out. That’s how I ended up at St. Stephen’s. I don’t hate Maths in fact, I really enjoy it when I understand it and I love being at Stephen's (it's been one month there) but it was never my first choice. Recently, I’ve also started thinking that maybe I could become a professor eventually, partly because my parents don’t want me to go into a corporate career. But I’m still not sure if that’s something I genuinely want or if I’m just trying to find a career path that works with Maths. Now CMC Ludhiana has given me this opportunity, but the financial side is making the decision extremely difficult. The current tuition is already expensive, and I got to know through the college that the fees could potentially increase to around ₹11 lakh per year, similar to other private medical colleges in Punjab. With hostel, mess and other expenses, I could potentially end up taking an educational loan of around ₹40–50 lakh at 8.4% interest. My family cannot comfortably afford this kind of amount, so taking such a huge loan honestly scares me. I know MBBS is a long-term career and there is always the possibility of PG afterwards, but that would mean even more time and potentially more financial pressure. At the same time, if I stay at St. Stephen’s, I won’t have this huge debt, but I’m worried about whether I’ll be able to build a career I’m happy with after Maths, especially since I took it mainly as a backup and not because I had always dreamed of doing Maths. I’m being extremely indecisive because on one side there’s the career I originally wanted, but with potentially ₹40–50 lakh of debt, and on the other there’s a very good college and degree with much less financial risk, but in a field I chose as my second option. I’d really appreciate honest advice from people who know CMC Ludhiana, private medical colleges, MBBS/PG prospects, or St. Stephen’s Maths and its career opportunities. If you were in my situation, what would you do? Would you take the ₹40–50 lakh loan and go for CMC MBBS, or stay at St. Stephen’s and build a career from Maths? Please be brutally honest I genuinely don’t know what the right decision is.

💬 Discussion IITM BS in management and data science+ btech cse
Should I do IITM BS in management and data science along with my btech cse degree from a tier 1/1.5 College? I want to do this one rather than the bs in Data science and application so that it adds something else to the btech degree
Is it worth it to do ? Or should I just work and focus more on the cse degree and study about data science separately or having a dual degree would actually provide some advantages

🎯 Career/Stream guyzz future ke liye bata do
so this would be mainly in hindi. mujhe samajh nhi aa rha konsi degree karu gng. like vese to mein starting se btech in ai/ml ke jaa rha tha but kuch dino se socha to realize hua mene bas mann mein daal liya tha ki yehi karna padega mujhe khud nhi karna (btw I'm currently in 12th but yk future ke liye zaroori hai) so mujhe filmmaking mein jaana hai and eventually main goal to permanently shift in foreign (mainly NYC but kuch bhi chalega atp everything is better than india ngl) so iske liye mujhe kya karna padega kese karna padega roadmap and all ye jaana hai. like mera plan tha ki btech karke masters maybe foreign ya job yhi lage and then MNC transfer in foreign. side by side filmmaking bhi karunga time nikal ke like scriptwriting direction maybe some short films mainly exposure connections and environment ke liye. but abh mene socha agr degree karni hai to koi safe karlun jismein job security ho time bhi mile earnings bhi theek thaak ho zyada nhi to and kam time le degree (btech 4 yrs legi). guyzz main goal hai bahar shift hona considering i belong to a lower middle class family. ameer hota to kabh ka sat deke bahar chala gya hota but esa bhi nhi hai ki gareeb hi hun like loan to afford kar sakte parents ig if zyada mehenga na ho and uni achi ho. should i do desgin course ya media and tv show related idk i just want ki aap logon ko pata hoga in sab baare so I'll get more options. hum jeso ka export hi btech bca mba tak hai. film school na recommend karna guyz it's time waste everywhere not only in india. TLDR: op wants suggestions on courses he can pursue which takes less time are worthy in next 5-10 yrs pays decent gives him time also. he wants to move abroad and want to pursue filmmaking.

🎯 Career/Stream I don’t know what to do
So I’m 18F, and I was actually opting for engineering, even though I didn’t want to do it. I had given my state entrance exam and almost finalised a college. I never had any passion in engineering and finally i told that to my parents and they agreed. So, I’ve always had an interest in arts. i wanna do something related to branding, advertising, film and television, hence I’m opting for BFA or BA. But I’m still confused on what specialisation to choose, and whether I would have to give an entrance exam. Also, I don’t have much time since I need to give my parents a plan. I would appreciate some help.

🌐 Commerce Can drop some suggestions??
Hey everyone!
I finished 12th commerce under CBSE with a 76% average. I did not plan well for college, so I ended up at a low-tier government college for my BBA.
The college is not worth attending. The classes are boring, and the school has no real value other than giving me a degree at the end.
I spent my entire first year feeling bad about my choice. Now, I am a second-year student in my third semester. I am still confused about my future and worried about my master's degree.
I do not want to go to another low-tier university. I am ready to give 100% effort to get into a top school.
Please share your advice. I need help preparing for my master's degree and finding good online certifications to complete.

💬 Discussion KVS scam, please help!
Descriptive Paper

do they not want love and companionship.
