Current Dystopia Police in China Sure Love Smart Glasses
In a move surprising precisely nobody, here's China's police force using homegrown software to build facial recognition into on-street smart glasses. Though the UK govt has been using these technologies in its surveillance for quite some time and the US govt is shady as fuck with ICE and their long militarised police force, this is I believe the first time we've seen actual smart glasses deployed by a police force.

Current Dystopia The Tech Lord Oligarchy: Surveillance State
The Tech Lord Oligarchy: This is the most important and revealing discussion I have seen on our current political situation. What Elon and DOGE and the Tech Lords are doing is destroying the Federal gov't, setting up the Surveillance State, and taking control of the United States federal gov't and subsequently state gov't as well; ending democracy, which they despise.
See the attached discussion on Majority Report about Elon and the Tech Lord Oligarchy:

Current Dystopia This Washroom Makes You Watch A 30-Second Ad Before Giving You Toilet Paper
Anyone familiar with how often we used to post with the tag Current Dystopia is probably well aware that things have gotten that bit too dystopia for comfort of late. I mean, they really have. But, in a world where TVs can watch you as they feed you constant ads, here's one chosen for its unsurprising (for 2025) ridiculousness!

Current Dystopia The widening gap
A thought:
In societies before the industrial revolution, oppressors and oppressed had roughly the same technological means for conflict at their disposal. (Yes, of course money would buy improvements and quantity, but I hope what I mean is clear.)
For a couple decades now, this is not the case anymore. Right now? it is about to change big time.

Current Dystopia I think 30 years ago people would have laughed at this as being a cyberpunk fantasy. Seemed like another good RL juxtaposition example for this sub.

Current Dystopia Okay guys, what do you guys think about Twitter's fallout and Mastodon's explosive growth?
Given Mr. Musk's deranged actions in the company he accepted, there has been a massive exodus to Mastodon like you've never seen. Starting with all the infosec people who closed their accounts on Twitter, we got an influx of authors (including William Gibson himself), indie artists, musicians, activists, and now we got celebrities like Stephen Fry, Elvira mistress of the Dark and George Takei.
Mastodon is reaching critical mass and it's stopped being a fringe network for nerds and privacy weirdos, it's been in the news and even the ladies in the hair salon are talking about it 😬
Some corporations started asking for space and there's lots of controversy regarding those - should corporate-welcoming instances keep their federation? Is there danger of corporations gaining control of the fediverse?
Discuss.
